If I can save a family from the discrimination and hypocrisy of this school, then writing this review is well worth it. The current principal presents as a kind person in public meetings, when the Pastor is around, and I suppose for parents of younger children. Her entire character changes, once you make it clear that accountability should go both ways. The principal is easily offended, retaliatory, and prejudiced-at least 3 parents have shared similar experiences. She is unwilling to account for various family experiences, and communication styles.

During my time at the school, my children experienced various forms of discrimination regarding discipline policies, grading, and access! The middle school program is very poorly managed. The academics, elective courses, and overall teacher effectiveness are seriously lacking. I have only experienced 1 solid core teacher (who really should be the lead), and MAYBE 2 solid elective teachers. The students are not treated with respect or trust. Some wealthy families have their student's poor behavior excused, while other families are consistently mistreated. When brought to the attention of the principal, she sits quiet in meetings and allows the middle school "lead teacher" to lead any outcomes down a destructive and non truthful path. The Principal and many other staff members have difficulty holding this middle school lead accountable.

Inasmuch as parents want to be involved as partner's in their children's learning, this school only allows that if you are agreeable with everything they currently do. They have handpicked the parents that receive patience, kindness, and grace. They have also handpicked the parents who will receive resistance, retaliation, and prejudice. None of which represent the Christian character they claim to lead in.

If you are a parent who asks questions, and expects accountability and respect to go both ways-this is NOT the school for you. I think the only reason they have the enrollment they do, is because they keep their tuition lower than the Christian K-12 School that is one block away from them. They are basically undercutting a nearby school. You can see both schools from the road and many families need the tuition costs to remain affordable. Unfortunately, what you are getting in return is a hypocritical school, who claims to love Jesus and lead with love, but when challenged, are the furthest away from demonstrating that when it matters most.

We absolutely love this school!
My daughter started kindergarten this year and she adores her teachers, classmates, and the entire staff. Its clear that the children are well cared for and nurtured. The curriculum is top-notch - in just two months, shes already reading, enjoying Bible lessons, giving class presentations, and improving her math and writing (including cursive!). Im also so impressed that theyre teaching Spanish at this level. My child is thriving, happy, and excited to learn every day. We couldnt be more grateful!

I attended WOLCA high school. The education was very lacking. A lot of focus on religion. Never sure if my teachers had gone to college. Had an English class period once where we had no teacher, the principal came in and lectured us about evolution. Another teacher was so egotistical as to make predictions about the students individual futures after high school. Got in trouble for forgetting my Bible for history class. Another teacher would teach for a short time, then spend the rest of the class doing their own college homework. I have attended public school as well and believe it offers much more structured and in depth academics, & teachers are required to go over certain topics. Private schools typically have no academic requirements for their teachers & cant pay them nearly as much as public schools. There is no one to seriously that seriously reviews private school teachers.

This marks our first year at Word of Life, and we are absolutely thrilled with the exceptional education our child is receiving in 1st Grade. He is currently enrolled in Ms. Oliver's class, and we couldn't be happier with her impact on his progress. Ms. Oliver has truly transformed our child's reading capabilities from being shy and uncertain to being confident and enthusiastic. He now enjoys reading for fun every night. Additionally, she has instilled a newfound sense of pride and confidence in his cursive writing through her encouragement and guidance.

Ms. Oliver maintains a Christ-centered and loving atmosphere in her classroom while instilling a strong work ethic within her students. We are grateful for her daily encouragement of each child to pray and for the time dedicated to this practice each morning. It is evident that Ms. Oliver is a true gem in the field of education, and we feel incredibly blessed to have her as our child's teacher this school year.

As a parent who has toured many schools, I feel grateful to have found WOLCA. Ms. Tracey the principal is approachable, open to feedback and continuously implements positive changes to make the school a better place. What makes WOLCA an outstanding school are the dedicated educators who pour their hearts and souls into teaching. I am writing this review to express my deep appreciation and admiration for Mrs. Chavez, Mrs. Ford, Ms. Darlene, Ms Teresa, and Mrs. Graham. These educators are beyond compare - their genuine love and enthusiasm for their students is truly awe-inspiring.

Mrs. Morgan, the administrative assistant at WOLCA is a breath of fresh air. She is always smiling, engaging, and ready to help. When I wanted to enroll my youngest child 3/4 of the way through the year. Mrs. Morgan quickly helped me through the process with ease. She made it a seamless transition for us.

As for Amanda Welling she is a rockstar at fund raising and keeping families in the loop. It's clear that she is deeply invested in the success of the school.

I recently ran into Ms. Darlene at the local library, where she was searching for books to support the school's focus for the week. This level of passion is a testament to the exceptional educators at WOLCA.

Mrs. Graham's approach to teaching feels like a warm hug , she is welcoming and comforting to both her students and parents. I always feel well-informed thanks to Mrs. Graham's regular posts through Class Dojo.

Ms. Teresa, who leads the art program, is a hands-on educator. She's always involved with the kids, knows every child by name, and radiates positivity in everything she does.

My son is fortunate to be in Mrs. Chavez and Mrs. Ford's class, and I can confidently say that Mrs. Chavez is a true 'child whisperer.' She manages the classroom with grace, respect, and tenderness, treating each child as if they were her own(my son adores her) and assigning them different jobs each week to teach teamwork, accountability, and leadership skills. Mrs. C also instills life skills, empathy, and self-awareness, and together with Mrs. Ford, they run a well-oiled classroom machine.

The faith-based learning at WOLCA is presented in a way that is relatable and meaningful to the children, and it has been a wonderful introduction to Christianity for my child.

WOLCA is a gem in our community and I highly recommend if you are looking for a well-rounded educational experience.

Word of Life Christian Academy has been such a blessing to my family. My children have been enrolled since 2018 and I truly believe they are receiving an excellent education both from the Christian perspective and biblical perspective. I love the family feel that the school environment has and I love the feeling that my children are safe there and being cared for in my absence. I would def recommend this school.

Most of their teachers dont wear masks. As the delta variant and Covid got worse, they changed their policy from having parents drop off outside in a car line to have parents drop off and pick up in the classroom while not wearing masks. They informed us about the policy change the Friday before class started. They dont seem to have their communication together, as they kept saying they sent out emails, but I didnt receive those emails. The teacher assigned to my sons class didnt speak English well and overall didnt seem qualified. My son did have a good time there though.

We left our public school for WOLCA this year due to COVID19. My children have never thrived like they are at this school. There is so much support from the teachers that makes it easy for them to succeed. I suspect this is in part due to small class sizes but also due to the compassion and loving approach from the teachers.
The curriculum is very clear and concise using textbooks that actually come home. In my opinion, the academics are demanding with higher expectations that at our public elementary school. My children have had to quickly learn grammar and cursive which has been challenging but the teachers have been very helpful and patient.
In short, I don't think we will return to public school after our experience at WOLCA.

My experience thus far has been amazing! Ms. Rhode, Ms. Lawrence and their teaching aids are wonderful with my children. My daughters attended the preschool. My oldest will be starting kindergarten there in the fall.

Fine for young children, but they are very focused on the bible for older children and not things that they would get in a public school education. For example, up to date American history, in depth science, and so on. I went to this school and I graduated not knowing understanding what President Kennedy even did, but I can still name you all the books of the Bible.

The Prek4 get homework mostly once a week with a about 2 days to complete. If there is a holiday or a break no homework is issued.

I had originally planned on taking my toddler to a Montessori school but was referred to this school because it was more economical. After visiting the school I was convinced that a Christian upbringing was essential for my toddler to be successful in all aspects of life. My toddler is in the PreK4 program with Mrs. Acevedo and Ms. Leticia. I could not be any more pleased. The kids are learning to read and the school year isn't even over. Not only that I am grateful that my child is developing a positive relationship with God. Additionally the kids are painting work as impressive as Van Goh. The kids are comfortable with performing and presenting in front of others. They are learning to be well-rounded caring citizens of this world. Mrs. Acevedo and Ms. Letiica are loving, caring individuals that take their role seriously and nurture a love of life in these precious little ones. If you want a great academic education for a respectable price, a great Christian base, diversity, and a place to instill a love for life this is the place.

Our children are loved and taught and disciplined with the love of Christ and a Christian worldview every day at Word Of Life Christian Academy. They have conveniences that work well for our two-income family, as well, like extended care hours and a full cafeteria with hot lunches. We have 4 children and plan to keep them all there from preschool through 8th grade!

For our son who transferred into Word of Life this year, we have been blessed with the school's emphasis on learning all subjects through a Biblical lens. We love that our son is in the Word daily in addition to all regular 6th grade curriculum studies. We are impressed at the quality of the learning material itself. The instructors are a blessing in their prayerful support for our son's development. Our son has grown so much over the past few months. Highly recommended!

Yes! This school is very diverse... And definitely develops honesty, integrity & fairness. 2nd grade teachers & front office staff, is full of the love of God! This is our first year, so I don't know many of the other teachers, but from what my child has seen, this vibe is through out the entire school!

They are very involved in their student's progress, both socially and academically, from the admin staff to the teachers and teacher aides. We get regular communication from staff, and they make it a point to know the students and their families personally.

Word of Life Christian Academy is a life-giving community of educated, accomplished and compassionate teachers with a passionate mission to teach and nurture children in both academics and Christianity. Children are lovingly spoken to, and are compassionately nurtured on all subjects. Every morning begins with uplifting worship music and prayer. As a parent, I appreciate the open invitation to the morning worship session. It is incredible to see students of all ages praising God and singing their hearts out first thing in the morning. The morning leader, Mr. Cross, is an excellent leader and example to the students during this time. He gives any and every child the opportunity to hold the microphones to sing, or to lead the worship with him. He is an exemplary individual. After every interaction with Mrs. Johnson, the school principal, I come away feeling listened to, appreciated, and understood. Mrs. Johnson's oversight of the school has made it a well-oiled machine.. everything seems to run smoothly there! Her leadership over the school is an obvious success. The receptionist, Mrs. Firaben, is always pleasant and helpful as well! My children are safe and happy at this school. They are excelling academically and I am pleased with the progress they have made. They enjoy their classmates, and speak highly of their teachers. This is an excellent school.

Since 2010 our daughter has attended WOLCA. We enrolled her in WOLCA, at the very last moment, due to a last minute relocation. WOLCA had only one place left open in the Pre School and we meet Mrs Johnson (Pre School Principal at that time) and were immediately impressed with Mrs Johnson presentation of the how the Preschool educates the kids. Mrs Johnson showed us a very thick binder which was the Pre School Curriculum and she diligently explained the Curriculum to us. We had no hesitation, at all, in enrolling our daughter in the school. That decision was very fortunate because our daughter has excelled, each and every year, and has been an Honor Roll student every year since.
We have had no hesitation at all in re-enrolling our daughter as we very quickly realised that our daughter gets a solid Christian AND Academic foundation. We have been continually impressed with the teachers and staff at the school, as they all love the Lord, nurture and always try there best for the kids. The teachers and staff have been unwavering in their dedication to the school, as they have done many jobs outside school time at nights and the weekends and all this work is totally unpaid and for the benefit of the kids.
We have found the school to be a very safe and secure environment for our child, if it were not, we would not have her there.
Mrs Johnson is now the Principal for WOLCA and has done an incredible job of steering the school in the right direction of continuous improvement both in spiritual and academic excellence. It does our hearts good to see how our daughter loves the Lord and excels in the school.
Presently Fairfax County Schools has decided to more open to different views, genders etc. it has worried us that our young daughter would be exposed, at far too early an age, to views which we do not agree with. We believe that this would cause her undue stress and would be a total distraction for her. We are so relieved and happy that our daughter is safe and secure in WOLCA, with loving and nurturing teachers and staff

Our kids have attended WOLCA for over a decade. We are so extremely grateful to God for our fantastic teachers.

However, sadly we have found the top leadership of the school and church to be very poor. It has been heartbreaking to see it. We are not even sure who is responsible for oversight and leadership! We have never been introduced or told who is on the current school board, if there is one. I think of how Jesus made himself available and transparent and shared his intentions with his disciples. Not here.

We felt a lack of support from the church. It is sad since at one time the church established the school and must have felt that it was important. The school is said to be a ministry of the church. We are not sure what this means. The care and nurturing and positive attention are missing. The Administrator does not seem quite up to the task and seems to struggle in many areas, making the situation worse.

Frankly safety has been a big concern. We have seen any number of individuals floating around the building, external door locks not functioning correctly, and vehicles for field trips not kept clean or in good working order. One morning, at the time students arrive for the day, we even had to cross the lobby with bug spray on the floor, holding our noses the best we could! Sadly we felt that legitimate concerns went unanswered, even about critical things such as safety.

The school has very little parent fellowship. It is such a lost opportunity since fellowship is so important and beneficial in the Christian community. For some reason the leadership seems to discourage it.

Perhaps at the root of these and many other issues, we did not feel that the church or school top leadership really value the students, faculty and staff, and parents. The deaf ear to concerns, poor communications, lack of responsiveness, and insensitivity to those in need seem to all testify to this fact. I believe when Jesus said that he came to serve and not be served, this would go for our top leaders in the House of God. The church and school at Word of Life seems to take a different view of things.

Unfortunately until the school and church are granted new leaders that are dedicated to caring about people and serving with excellence, I am not sure what to anticipate.

Excellent Preschool with measurable outcomes. Our 3yr old attended during school year 2014-2015. At the end of the year her numeracy and literacy skills were remarkably improved. Our daughter was reading by the end of the first year ( we also read to her and allowed her to read to us daily at home). True Christian values evident in all the staff. Tuition was comparable to the surrounding schools. Relevant and developmental field trips were scheduled throughout the year. I really enjoyed the all inclusive tuition rate which meant both before and after care were included if we needed it (this was for the full 5day per week enrolled students).

Bible stories taught as such that my little one talked about what she learned. This demonstrated her comprehension of what was being taught.

I recommend Word of Life to parents seeking a quality rigorous academic program with true Christian values and principles.

We moved away from the area otherwise we would be there this school year also.

Word of Life is the best Christian School in the area. Every morning there is Worship, and study of the Bible. My son is in 5th grade, and we are believing God for the school to be expand and have High School. After seeing the progress of my son in his studies, and devotional life to God, I highly recommend this school for any child.

Great school, my kids like it there, my son (3rd grader) refused going to a different school and practically begged us to re-register him. My daughter (Pre-K) feels at home. Very religious environment and nice staff. Parent involvement is still a work in progress, don't know if the school has a PTA association but parents are always invited to school activities.

Terrible school the high school is gone and there was only two 8th graders this year. The school is more like a jail. The teachers are strict and rude to students. They are teaching Saxon math which is confusing to any person struggling in math. The students are not allowed to talk for 15 minutes in lunch. The school is taking away their only time to socialize. And if the teachers see you talking they add more time. I recommend not going to this school.
