The principal provides strong leadership, and I appreciate the school’s commitment to solid Catholic teaching and tradition. There is a great deal of good at Seton, and that is what makes the weaker areas more frustrating.

As an educator, I have noticed that some courses would benefit from stronger instructional consistency. In some cases, assignments do not include adequate rubrics with clear criteria or point values, which makes expectations unclear for students with certain teachers. In other cases, instruction seems to rely heavily on memorization rather than helping students understand and apply the material. Be prepared for a heavy workload of at home assignments, and missing a day of class will definitely set your student back, unless you happen to have a teacher who emails you in return and is attentive and provides you what your child missed.

The school would benefit from investing in professional development for some teachers, especially in areas such as instructional design, assessment, rubric development, and student engagement. With more consistency across courses, Seton could feel much more like a well-oiled machine rather than one that periodically breaks down. Additionally, for the students best interest: educators should be chosen my actual, skill, experience, and certification rather than family connection.

Overall, there is still so much to value about the school, especially its Catholic foundation, but the quality of instruction among it's teachers is uneven and this can bring the school down if they don't handle this with care. Strengthening teacher training would help ensure that the excellence of the school’s mission is reflected more consistently in the classroom experience. I would still recommend Seton as these teachers age out and if Seton keeps it's Catholic core values.

The school is small so everyone knows everyone which is cool and the teachers are the best

Conservative Catholic families enroll regardless of cost or other difficulties because it is fully faithful to Church teachings, takes the sacramental life of its students seriously, and has remained independent of educational fads and innovations that have proven ruinous at other schools. There is a community of faithful families that is inspiring and sometimes awe-inspiring. Nobody locks their lockers. Parents can feel confident their children are safe from violence and that most classmates are protected from and not immersed in popular culture at home. Academically, the emphasis is on writing. "Lost" subjects like Grammar and Geography are taught. History taught by the principal is excellent as are American Government, Biology and Chemistry. Math and foreign language varies from excellent to disastrous depending on the teacher. There is a revolving door of new grads from Christendom who teach for 1 year and move on. No band or music. No PE -- learn sports on your own time. Computer technology is last century. The physical plant is decrepit and lacks climate control. The important things are done well, and the rest somehow falls into place - that is all part of its charm.

Seton has built a school which gives a strong Catholic formation to its students. It's teachers are dedicated individuals who will do anything they can to help your child. The principal is a real-life saint. Seton does away with the negatives of modern education and focusses on the canon of Western cilivization giving students strong skills in math, English and religion. However, at times and in certain circumstances, the culture of Seton can be smug -- somewhat condescending to students or individuals at schools with lesser academic or moral standards. This can get in the way of teaching our Catholic children to meet the culture in a genuinely loving and friendly way while still standing strong in their faither. For some students who struggle emotionally or academically, this can and has been crippling.

I am a graduate from the class of '98. Among my classmates, we have professionals in fields as diverse as law enforcement, education, business, and theatre; several post-graduate students studying in excellent schools; married folks managing their homes and children; and one cloistered nun...and that's from my class alone. The combination of the fine education centered on the virtuous, sacramental life, and athletic teams and clubs of all sorts formed us so that we could mature into happy adults, well-equipped to engage culture and society.
