St. Ambrose Catholic School has been such a wonderful experience for our family. The teachers and staff truly care about the students, and it shows every day. Our son loves going to school each morning and comes home excited to share what he is learning.

One of the biggest blessings has been seeing how much his Spanish has improved. He is now speaking in full sentences and can communicate with his grandparents, which means so much to our family.

We have also loved the faith-centered environment. The way the school teaches kindness, compassion, and God’s love has helped build such a strong foundation for his faith and character at a young age. We are incredibly grateful for the impact St. Ambrose has had on our son and our family.

I want to express my deep gratitude for the wonderful work St. Ambrose School does. It brings me great joy to see my son so enthusiastic about attending school every morning.

I greatly value the warmth with which the principal welcomes the students every day, and the peaceful environment of the institution. Knowing that my son is learning in a safe space, free from pressure or fear, allows me to go to work with complete peace of mind. Witnessing his intellectual and spiritual growth, and seeing photos of his daily activities, confirms that I made the right decision in entrusting my child in their care.

I am also grateful for the parent communication app and for fostering a space where learning is encouraged through play. Thank you to the excellent teaching staff and the entire team for your collective effort in making St. Ambrose such an outstanding place to study!

Our daughter has had a wonderful first year of school at St. Ambrose. She will finish Pre-K3 in June, and she has already grown so much in her early learning. The preschool team is so creative and make learning fun. St. Ambrose school feels like a big family as the staff greet each student by name as they walk through the front door. A strong Catholic identity is infused throughout the curriculum. Highly recommend St. Ambrose.

We are currently in our 6th year at St. Ambrose. Our son graduated last year and our daughter is now in middle school. We have had nothing but positive experiences with the school and staff. The teachers are fantastic, they show a real commitment to learning and are attentive to each student’s needs. Both our kids enjoyed the CYO activities offered, like basketball and volleyball. The school also has a drama club that our daughter especially enjoys. Overall, St. Ambrose has been a wonderful experience for our family and we highly recommend it to families looking for a strong committed community for their children

My daughter just started this school this year and it has been an amazing experience. There's a sense of community and our family has all felt welcomed. The teachers are amazing, dedicated and they get to know your kid. The school is clean and has beautiful grounds. We decided to give this school a try since it was a dual language school and that was important to us. We came from a Montessori school and knew it was going to be a quite a change. The school made it so easy for her to just jump in and be a part of it. My daughter embraced the uniform, embraced the classroom, the new teachers and even the Spanish class. She knew a lot of Spanish going in but she never really spoke it at home. She is thriving, speaking Spanish and surprising her abuelos every chance she gets. She even looks forward to doing the homework! I am glad that we found this school and how they have welcomed us to the St. Ambrose family. I am glad we have found our home.

St Ambrose is such a small warm community of caring teachers and committed parents. Our two kids are in the preschool program and love it. The learning is hands-on and interactive. We were worried our son would be bored since he is advanced for his age, especially regarding mathematics.
Everyone has been so welcoming.

St Ambrose does a great job of creating a safe space for students to learn. They focus on giving students a solid, high-quality education while also challenging them to do their best. Teachers get the opportunity get to know each child and can give one-on-one attention, which helps them understand the whole child.

We are a military family who has returned back to St. Ambrose school after being away for 5 years. Returning to this school has been like returning home. The teachers are amazing and really seem to love and care about the students. There has been some bullying in my child's class, but the principal has always responded to my emails and concerns. It is obvious that the principal loves the students in the school and wants what is best for them. Also, the PTO is amazing with the fundraising they do, as well as the community events that bring the school together. One downside of the school is the lack of a library, but they are fundraising for that. It will unfortunately be a few years before the library is built, but hopefully it will be done before my student graduates.

Amazing school with the supporting community. My son has been attending the school since 2019, and we are blessed to be there.

The school supports every student. The school became my son’s second home.

The school is small, so every child is important and not just a number.

I'd highly recommend St. Ambrose to anyone who is looking for a safe and amazing school for their kids.

Our time at St. Ambrose Dual Catholic School was truly a blessing for our whole family. As parents who strive to raise our children in the Catholic faith, it meant so much to find a school that not only supports but actively reinforces the values we live and teach at home. St. Ambrose was a natural extension of our family’s faith journey.

From the very beginning, we felt embraced by a warm, close-knit community where faith, love, and respect are at the heart of everything. The school doesn’t just talk about Catholic values—they live them daily. Whether it was through prayer, the celebration of the sacraments, service projects, or the way students are taught to treat one another, the Catholic faith is woven into every part of the school experience.

The academics were appropriately challenging and helped our kids grow both intellectually and spiritually. They weren’t just learning facts—they were developing discipline, perseverance, and a love for learning. Most importantly, they were being formed as kind, humble, and faithful individuals.

The Principal, Dr. Ascunce, is an incredible leader—she gives everything to the school and leads with true Catholic conviction and care. The teachers go above and beyond, nurturing each child not just as a student, but as a child of God. Their love and dedication made a lasting impact on our family.

We are so grateful for our time at St. Ambrose. It’s a school where children are not only educated, but truly seen, loved, and guided in their walk with Christ. We carry the friendships, lessons, and blessings from this school with us always.

We've had at least one child at St. Ambrose school since 2005 and have always felt like it was the best choice for our kids. The school has worked hard to achieve and maintain its Blue Ribbon status with the Department of Education. Class sizes are small, and the teachers are there because they love the students. The leadership continually works to improve the number and quality of resources available to students, and the school is (as of the writing) the only Bilingual Catholic school in the state of Virginia.

St. Ambrose fosters a remarkably tight-knit and secure community where every student is known and valued. This translates to our daughter feeling genuinely safe and comfortable, a crucial factor for her well-being and academic engagement. Beyond the nurturing environment, St. Ambrose demonstrates commendable academic excellence. We've seen our daughter's love for reading blossom through their excellent reading program, and her passion for music enriched by their music/band program.

What truly sets St. Ambrose apart is its dedication to holistic development. Faith-based learning is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum, allowing our child to cultivate a strong moral compass and deepen her spiritual understanding alongside academic growth. If you are looking for a truly exceptional school, St. Ambrose is a must-visit

Our Kindergartener comes from an English only speaking house. She comes home not only excelling at reading/writing/speaking the English language, but is able to do the same in Spanish. We know our child is safe, loved and cared for every single day. We choose St. Ambrose because they prioritize evidence based education, prioritize families and make every child know they are special.

We have had the privilege of being part of the St. Ambrose School community for the past 8 years, starting when my daughter was in preschool. The motto at that time, “A small school with a big heart,” has proven to be true in every sense. While we considered enrolling in one of the larger Catholic schools in the area, we ultimately decided that the close-knit environment at St. Ambrose offered something truly special. Over the years, we have formed meaningful relationships with families across multiple grades, and we genuinely feel like part of a supportive, warm community.

The involvement of both parents and students at St. Ambrose is exceptional. The children are respectful, reverent, and compassionate. A recent example of this was during a field trip to the JPII Shrine and the Franciscan Monastery, where there was a clear distinction between our group and others. Our students were engaged, prayerful, and self-motivated- picking up prayer cards, writing prayer requests, and kneeling to pray without any prompting. It was a beautiful display of the values instilled in them by St. Ambrose School.

We have also witnessed the school’s academic excellence, with St. Ambrose students earning recognition in scholastic achievement competitions, including multiple Virginia state champions. The school’s students consistently perform above average in MAP scores, which speaks to the quality of education provided. Beyond academics, St. Ambrose students excel in sports as well, showcasing a strong work ethic and determination to succeed in all areas.

The school's new motto, "Christ is everything to us," beautifully encapsulates what we have seen throughout our time at St. Ambrose. It is a place where faith, education, and community come together in the most inspiring ways. We are incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful school.

We switched out two kids from public school to St. Ambrose during Covid and have never looked back. The small school size creates a family-like environment and the teachers are so supportive and helpful. The students are diverse and inclusive. The administrators are always looking for ways to improve the school and provide new resources like a refurbished bathroom, STEM lab, 3D printer, etc. We have loved our time at St. Ambrose and highly recommend it!

We absolutely love St. Ambrose School and Preschool! One of the things that makes it so special is the small-school atmosphere—everyone (up to the principal!) knows our kids, not just by name but as individuals. The teachers and staff truly care, and it’s amazing to see how supported and known our children are.

Both of our kids are so happy at school, which gives us such peace of mind as parents. The dual-language immersion program is another huge reason we chose St. Ambrose. We love that our children are not only receiving a strong academic foundation but are also growing up bilingual. It’s incredible to watch them learn and use both English and Spanish. We’re thrilled that they will continue to grow with the program.

We also appreciate the school’s focus on kindness, character, and faith - they are part of everyday life at St. Ambrose in a way that feels natural and uplifting, reinforcing the values we teach at home.

If you’re looking for a warm, nurturing, and academically strong school where your child will thrive, we highly recommend St. Ambrose!

My older son has definitely benefited from this. I love to be part of the community and my family has made great friends. I like that for a small school, we are very active, specially with sports. I can recommend the school enough.

St. Ambrose Preschool was an exceptional choice for our daughter, who attended three years. The director and teachers create a warm educational and spiritual environment for children to thrive in daily. Great pictures and emails are sent home from the teaching team regularly to keep families updated with all of the learning that happens in the classroom. Our daughter grew intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Her love for learning began in preschool, and she was excited everyday to go to school. She is now excelling in elementary school. We highly recommend St. Ambrose Preschool.

The school fosters a strong sense of community, where students feel supported both academically and spiritually. The teachers are dedicated and truly care about each child's success, making learning engaging and meaningful.

The integration of Catholic values into everyday lessons helped our kids develop a strong moral foundation. They participated in regular Mass, which deepened their faith and sense of belonging. The emphasis on service projects also instilled a strong sense of compassion and responsibility.

Facilities are well-kept, and the small class sizes allowed for personalized attention. Our children thrived academically and socially, forming lifelong friendships along the way.

Overall, St. Ambrose Catholic School provided a nurturing environment that prepared our kids not just for academic success, but for life as thoughtful, caring individuals. We highly recommend it!

I am writing this review to share my positive experience with St. Ambrose Catholic School. St. Ambrose School has a loving and supportive community. The school presents many opportunities for parents to become involved. The teachers are kind, approachable, and committed to student success. I have found that they are incredibly in tune with each family's needs and challenges.
My two sons have been with the school since their early elementary years, and they have flourished and formed deep friendships rooted in respect and service. Today's world is rampant in miscommunication and confusion, but I feel assured that St. Ambrose will help my children grow as grounded young men. I give St. Ambrose my highest recommendation.

I would personally suggest you look elsewhere in the diocese to send your child. St. Ambrose does not have a school counselor and has a small resource department. The class sized keep shrinking, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. My child’s largest class size was about 23 students and now it is down to less than that. I am concerned that the school may eventually close. The do have dual language program, but that does not seem to help with class sizes grow, on the contrary, the class sized continue to decrease. The teachers that have been there for over 3 years are great, I cannot speak for the new teachers, as my children did not have them. I strongly suggest doing research into other schools before sending your child to St. Ambrose. I am glad I pulled my child and placed them in a different school in the diocese.

I was very nervous about transferring my kids from the private school they had been enrolled in for several years (and we were all pretty happy with), to St Ambrose. After 1 month there, I was patting myself on the back for making a great decision (the kids actually started thanking me for sending them to St. Ambrose 2 weeks into starting the year)!

It is so wonderful to visit the school and hear my kids interacting not only with their classmates, but also with the administrators and other teachers (who know the kids by name-and not just mine!) At the beginning of the summer, our family was out in the community when spotted by the second grade teacher. She came right over to offer a cheerful hello and introduce us to her family member; which left us all smiling and the kids feeling like rockstars. My kids weren't at St A for 2nd grade/in her class, but she knew who they were and went out of her way on a Saturday to show interest in the kids. That's how it is at St A. every day!

Activity-wise, the school offers lots of fun special events throughout the school year (during the school day) as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of afterschool activities. The nurse at St A is super sweet and attentive, ensuring everyone follows proper protocols. Building staff keep the school spotless and secure.

On the last day of school before summer break, my kids were super quiet on the way to school. When I asked why, they said that they didn't want school to be over!!! We are enjoying the summer, but the kids are saying they are looking forward to being back at St Ambrose soon!

I've had at least one child in St Ambrose School consistently since 2005, and I've always found it to be a great school. The teachers at St. Ambrose love the students. I believe every school, no matter where you go, will have some teachers who don't mesh with some parents, but I've found those situations to be the exception rather than the rule at St. Ambrose. I've never regretted having my children there. It's been a great experience overall.

Our experience at St. Ambrose has been incredibly positive. From the moment we first walked through the doors, we felt welcomed into a warm and family-like environment. The teachers and staff genuinely care about each student, knowing them all by name and providing personalized attention that larger schools can't offer. The small class sizes have greatly benefited our children, ensuring they receive the individual learning and support they need. Additionally, the school offers excellent resources for extra help, ensuring every student can thrive. We couldn't be happier with our choice of school.

My child is still traumatized by the experience at St. Ambrose. I agree with another reviewer that suggested sending your child to FCPS instead. I've heard a teacher for younger students yelling at them as well, and it was widely accepted. Administration heard, did nothing about it. I don't yell at my child, why would I send them to school to be yelled at?

My child had PTSD and severe anxiety, the principal was anything but empathetic to my child's needs. ZERO support offered at all; the school did not care in the least bit. She had an extremely cold demeanor towards us as a family, wouldn't say "hello" to me when she'd see me, just very, very cold and dismissive. The polar opposite of a Catholic/Christian. Gaslit my child, blaming the child for her own inaction. It was just disgusting and I was appalled at how a grown adult acted.

Rather than have a heart for a student who was truly scared, she was more obsessed with Spanish being incorporated, and that's her power trip. On that note, she had a huge biased against those not spanish or in some way linked to spanish (language and race).

She puts on a facade as if she's this caring, involved principal, but the second your child has any special needs that might reflect badly onto her, she can't be bothered with you. I'm honestly shocked she's still employed there.

For the price of tuition, you should be getting far more. They don't have a reading specialist, no real counselor, very, very little resources. Another local private K-8 school has all of that for less tuition.

Our son graduated from St. Ambrose and now grandchildren attend this loving school. If you want your children or grandchildren to gain the foundation of a great education with a focus on STEM, community involvement and self-esteem this is the school for you. We wanted our kids to gain the critical foundation in elementary school to love learning and not to be bombarded with woke programs or ideas when they are so young and impressionable. Learning Spanish starting in kindergarten is a huge plus.

I was at this school for a couple of years and I can definitely say it was the worst experience out of all the schools I've been to. Strongly recommend sending your child to public FCPS schools instead of this school as they have no counselor, experience, or empathy for children with disabilities. As well as the school doing little to nothing about teachers talking down to children and if anything enabling them by not holding them accountable for their actions and instead shifting the blame to the parents. I've first hand seen the way a particular teacher will yell at her young students and it is not only disgusting but insane how the school administration could allow this to be continued. The school administration does little to nothing also to concerns of bullying and will only intervene when it is out of control.

Seeing my younger sibling come home from school in tears from the one particular teacher was heartbreaking. School is meant to be a nurturing and conducive learning environment where students feel safe and happy, but St. Ambrose clearly does not adhere to this expected caliber of education.

I have two children and this is their first year attending this school. The faculty have dealt with the COVID restrictions in unique ways often with gusto ensuring continued in person learning. The teachers are all happy every morning and every afternoon. It is remarkable that they have remained so positive with all of the restrictions but, they have really taken up the mantle and they care about the kids learning.

The teachers actually communicate. One of my gripes with Fairfax teachers was how they struggled with a mountain of kids. Often, I would email the teachers asking a question about an assignment or note they sent home and receive either no response at all or, get one three days later. The teachers here a very proactive. They will reach out to you if your kid is struggling with her nine times table to ask you to go over them in the car. They will email telling you that you kid seemed a little out of sorts during the science class today and may not have understood the material. The will email you if you child is asking a question that they think requires parent involvement. This is one of the reasons I love this school.

The specialty teachers are amazing and well worth the price of admission. Specifically, the science teacher and the Spanish teacher stand out as two amazing performers. I would be remiss if I didn't quote my daughter "Mrs. Holleran may be the best teacher ever."

As a parent moving from public to private, I was worried that my daughters would have trouble academically getting up to speed. The teachers put a lot of effort into evaluating my daughters and placing them correctly. The students in the class welcomed my daughters with open arms. They included them in their web study groups immediately and continuously communicated with my daughter to make sure that she was understanding and prepared.

Mrs. Tejeda (Principle) is a very flexible and dynamic leader always looking to do things better and more efficient. I think her leadership is the reason we have had zero COVID transmission in the school. I recommend if you have small children that you send them to this school. My only regret was that I didn't do this the first year we arrived in Fairfax.

My children are now graduated from St. Ambrose. They both attended K-8. I couldn't be happier with the school and what my children gained by attending a small, faith based school. They are now in high school and are academically prepared, and perhaps most importantly, kind and respectful young adults that no doubt was instilled in them on a daily basis at this school. I also loved Saint Ambrose because of the small size, where we really became like family with the other families. The sense of community was very strong.

I have found a caring and welcoming environment. The teachers know how to be strict and get the best from the kids at the same time that they are loving and friendly. At St Ambrose kids learn more than just content information since with their example, discipline and hard work, teachers teach excellent study habits, organization and planning strategies. The leadership and staff are excellent. On top of the academics there are a lot of fun activities for the kids and their families.

Our daughter had been homeschooled up until starting at St. Ambrose last year. Our experience has been nothing but terrific. The teachers are very caring and invested. The new principal is completely child-focused without being myopic. The community is a very welcoming one and encourages people to share their times and talents as well as their treasures (to include our children). I would highly recommend St. Ambrose to anyone looking for a school to encourage their child to excel in a small, loving, faith-filled environment.

By focusing on how the faith ties into real life situations, St. Ambrose and its staff encourage questions and dialogue about honesty, integrity and fairness.
