FA is a great place for students to excel in academics. Our oldest child went to FA and was very happy at that school. Our second child found a different experience students with learning or emotional struggles are not given the necessary support. students were often times very cliquish and our second child was often alienated in and out of the classroom. Many teachers did little to nothing to stop this bullying. If your child does have some emotional or learning disabilities and is an introvert, they may not find this place acceptable. If your child thrives in challenging environments than this is the school for you

Watching our grandson grow while at FA has been a pure joy. He LOVES to go to school! He is in kindergarten and this is his third year there. Our daughter is an educator and took great care in choosing a school for him. She selected FA primarily for the small class sizes. He is in a classroom with 11 students and 2 full time teachers! Our grandson is reading, learning Spanish, going on field trips (yesterday he explained the lifecycle of the butterfly to me. He had all of the vocabulary AND knew the Spanish word for butterfly! I cant say enough good things about this school community!

Based on the education my grandchildren received, one of whom is now in college and the other a high school senior, I found the education FA provided gave them an excellent foundation for further learning. The school also developed their appreciation of the arts, strengthened their moral character and civic engagement, and made them appreciative of learning differences. Teachers knew their material and were effective at transmitting it, gave meaningful assignments, and were always supportive of and available to students. Recommend FA without reservation.

We have had our two children at FA for the past 4 years and have been very happy with it. We have one in middle school and one in lower school. They are both happy there and thriving socially and academically. We love the small class sizes and individual attention they are able to give. We love that all middle and upper school students can participate in multiple sport options throughout the year regardless of previous experience and ability. We love the numerous theatre and musical opportunities offered. We love the leadership opportunities offered in middle school. Our lower school student participates in International Club, Running Club and Gardening Club throughout the year. We feel safe sending them here every day and know they are well looked after and cared about. We feel very fortunate to have them there.

My 3 year old daughter was suspended and then expelled from Fredeicksburg Academy for "abnormal behavior". I had her evaluated by a child psychologist and even had the psychologist monitor her in the school...her professional conclusion: the behavior deemed abnormal by the school was in fact normal childhood behavior that the school was simply not sophisticated enough to deal with. They booted her despite the psychologists input and then refused to refund the tuition for the year, which I had paid in full up front (and this was early in the year). Since that time she has completed preschool with Fredeicksburg Children's Academy (similar names but not the same school) and is now in kindergaten in Stafford Public School's. Interesting, and telling, that neither of these schools found her behavior "abnormal". Take home point, Beware of Fredericksburg Academy

Our experience at FA has been nothing but positive! This is my daughters first year at FA and Ive noticed a huge improvement in not only her academics but also her social skills. She was once a shy, timid little girl who has really come out of her shell thanks to FA! I highly recommend FA to everyone!

Excellent. We graduated two children from FA that attended since kindergarten. Their experience while there was always positive and they graduated with the skills necessary to successfully navigate the collegiate world and the independence of adulthood. Fredericksburg Academy is a true community of students, faculty, families, and supporters that helps nurture the strengths of each and every student and staff member. The sheer number of reviews of this school over the last five years should raise a red flag to anyone considering sending their children here. 45 overall reviews in 5 years - with 16 of those reviews being one or two stars. No other private school in the state has as many poor reviews during the same time period. Most schools in the athletic conference in which FA plays (Delaney) have a handful of reviews, the majority of them positive - the type of satisfaction one would expect at an expensive, private school. Based on the reviews here, this is NOT the case at FA. The most troubling aspect of this school is that no matter how much time passes, the negative reviews continue and are consistent regarding why parents and students are dissatisfied: bullying, ostracism, nepotism, elitism. While bullying can and does happen at most schools, the lack of a concrete approach to the ongoing problem at FA obviously prevents this school from moving forward. Most importantly, the consistent nature of the peer-related issues at Fredericksburg Academy creates an unsafe environment for all children, not just those being bullied and/or ostracized. Our child was subject to such damaging ostracism at Fredericksburg Academy, we are still in counseling several years after we left the school. Ostracism is one of the most difficult experiences a child can overcome. As human beings, we naturally seek out and thrive on interaction with our peers. When all healthy interaction is shut down due to ostracism and bullying in a setting as small at the one at FA, the results can be devastating and long lasting. This was our experience and obviously, based on other reviews here, the reality for many, many others.

Absolutely awful. Students who seek extra help get turned away because teachers are "too busy" or "have nothing for them to do". Instead of communicating with parents, the teachers wait until the report card and then unload about how poorly the student is doing. Then, when approached about comments or concerns, teachers say there is nothing they can do. No support system for the students.

We heard about FA and took the tour. We were promised low teacher-student ratios, innovative learning, and open communication between teachers and parents. We were promised good structure, discipline, and a positive learning environment. HOW DISSAPOINTED WERE WE?!?

Schools are only as good as their teachers, and while some are good at FA, most are not. Rules are not enforced, the alleged teacher-student ratio is irrelevant when the teachers are not willing to spend time encouraging or helping the student, and the communication is non-existent. As a matter of fact, the administration told us that the school encourages the teacher-student relationship, and communicating with the parents is "outside of the scope of what FA offers".

Listen here... if I pay the bill, I expect to be informed on what's going on. My child, who came home bruised after he said he was beat-up during "playtime" (middle school age) due to lack of supervision... who was told to use study time effectively but was repetitively turned away when he asked for help during this time... and who we repetitively asked for open lines of communication with the teachers concerning his academic concerns or performance and basically got told it was none of our business. They've got no problem bombarding your email about fundraising and asking for donations, but can't take 30 seconds to let you know about a concern in class. See where the priorities are?

My child has had a wonderful experience this year. The hands-on science he has learned in third grade has blown me away. He comes home excited to tell me about all he is learning. When he learned about wedges, they went on a hunt around the school to find wedges, and then made their own. They created an inclined plane and everyone participated in a scientific examination of how to use it. He made his own pulley and used it to trade notes with his friend. He went to the outdoor recess area and looked at wheels and axels on wagons, tricycles and wheelbarrows and then came back in the classroom to make his own. His teacher is serious about school. The work is challenging but she is fair and teaches to his needs. Homework has a purpose. She is also fun. She shares silly stories about her cats and children who also go to the school. Somehow she remembers the name of his dog, his interest in bikes, and his love for origami and is able to engage him in conversations. She also talks to them about the importance of being a good friend. He has shared that they read books together about being a friend, showing respect and kindness. They do skits and talk through any problems that come up in a day. I give all the credit to his teacher. FA is worth every penny, and I know it is an investment in his future.

As a former charter school teacher, I was used to small class sizes and individualized learning when I first arrived at Fredericksburg Academy, but was blown away by the capability of my students in that setting here. With an emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, hands-on learning, and place-based education, FA Falcons balance big picture concepts with key underlying details, drawing connections between academic disciplines and working well beyond grade level. I had to modify my curriculum to make it more rigorous, better meeting the needs of my new students. With individualized learning, close mentorship, and a rich variety of extracurriculars, students are able to cultivate a breadth and depth of knowledge that best prepares them for the varied demands of higher education and the work force. We have a 9th grader who just started at FA this school year. We chose FA because we were looking for a school that would engage our teenager on both an academic and social level, while providing him with a challenging academic experience. We were concerned that he would get lost in the shuffle at a large public school. He has been very happy there this year and we have been very impressed. The teachers are dedicated and very interested in the kids, are accessible and give detailed and helpful feedback, which is only possible when class sizes are small and intimate, as they are at FA. The student/teacher interaction and feedback that we have received have far exceeded our expectations, especially compared to what we used to receive in public school. Our main concern was that FA was too small, and that it would be hard for him to break into social groups since most of the students have known each other for quite a long time. He felt accepted from early on and is making friends. In addition, he is thriving in his classwork and is benefitting by being around a group of kids who are academically motivated to do well. We have been very happy with our decision.

Fredericksburg Academy provides a nurturing, community based environment that encourages students to learn and grow in unique ways. My oldest daughters first impression was what sold us on FA. After our initial tour of the school, she called FA the happy school. When asked why, she responded, The teachers are happy, the kids are happy, everyone is happy. Both of my daughters attend FA, and throughout their lower school years, they were inspired to be upstanding citizens through the character education program, and excellent students through the guidance and expertise of the teachers, who genuinely care about each individual student. In middle school, they found the challenge of the courses to be motivating and relevant to the world around them. Highlights include; a three day field trip to the Chesapeake Bay, interviewing a political representative, participating in a mock trial, performing in the school musicals, travelling to Costa Rica and immersing themselves into the culture, learning to effectively use technology, and playing field hockey and soccer. Now as upper school students, my daughters have the confidence to be showcase their intelligence, and be leaders, athletes, and performers. Its with ease that they discuss historical events, interpretations of literature, or scientific discoveries with their teachers and classmates. They feel like they belong to a community where their thoughts are respected, they are trusted, and they can be themselves. We love FA, the community feel, and most importantly the amazing, dedicated teachers!

Why do we love the school? Mrs. Llufrio. She taught our child in first grade and is now the third grade teacher. Dedicated, innovative, and caring. Want to learn about molecules of matter? Let's do hands-on science experiments. Learning about ancient Rome? Let's do a "walking tour" of all the sites. Need to master math facts? Let's play interactive games with technology and different games in class. Does you child need more challenging work? She creates independent, interactive projects. Does your child need extra help? She meets individually and provides that help. Do your child's grandparents live out of state? Don't worry. The can check your child's blog each Thursday to read their writing and leave comments. Educating the child is her top priority. She also communicates with parents. If I have a question, she emails within a few hours, even in the evenings after school. I can't remember when our class swims or when the Spanish fashion show is? No fear--she writes a weekly newsletter which comes each home each week AND is posted online. She is one of many, many teachers at the school who define dedication. We have a special place in our hearts for her.

How many bad reviews does it take before people realize that Fredericksburg Academy is a terrible place for kids? This school should be shut down. Bad review after bad review - they all mention the same complaints - bullying, nepotism, elitism, unqualified teachers, etc. Anyone can have a few satisfied parents write positive reviews directly in response to the negative complaints listed on this website. What stands out at this school (and so often and loudly espoused on this website) is the number of dissatisfied parents and students - all complaining about similar issues. We all want what is best for our children - a safe, inclusive, loving environment - from the earliest years of lower school to the last years of high school. If a private school that costs about $20,000/year cannot provide these simple tools for future success, then why would ANYONE send their kids to FA, let alone PAY to have them exposed to a, "Lord of the Flies" type of environment?

Our kids have been at the FA Lower School for 2 years now. As educators ourselves, we are delighted with the quality of their education. We tried public school and were turned off by the constant disciplinary problems and overwhelmed, under-resourced teachers. Our kids now benefit from FA's small class sizes, and the atmosphere is calm -- for that age group -- and even studious. We expect a lot from FA, and the Lower School teachers we've had are extremely well-qualified and deeply committed to students, even when our kids are no longer in their class (a norm which has touched us immensely as parents). The hands-on science approach has really engaged our kids. Most impressive to us, however, is that there's a general thoughtfulness to the place. This is apparent in the nature playspace now under construction, the early foreign language instruction, the lights-down, quiet time that lets kids eat their lunch in peace, and so on. In short, the school has every element needed for top-quality, highly supportive childhood education and development. From there, you get out of any school what you put into it.

We've recently relocated from the Midwest. Our son is a new 8th grader at FA. Before he started, I always promised him he could go back to his school in Illinois if he did not like Fredericksburg Academy. After the first week, his mind was made up. He loves Fredericksburg Academy. His teachers are enthusiastic and positive in their teachings. The system seems very well organized. We are very happy with our decision for our son to attend FA. As far as some of that negative comments previously posted, most schools require you to sign a contract in the spring, if you are returning or not. Every private school has this. Most schools offer insurance if you do need to change your enrollment. Also, we have seen no evidence of bullying at all. All the 8th graders have made our son feel very welcomed and included.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at FA until we had to transfer due to a job loss. We felt like part of the FAmily the three years that we were there until we told them that we were leaving and then they became just a business. We started hearing about contracts, budgets, and money. We told them before the school year even began. We had to pay the entire year's tuition for our two children even though the kids weren't going there after September! They wouldn't even compromise. We had no way to pay for the FULL tuition for two kids without jobs and moving out of state. They didn't care about us anymore since we were no longer going to be paying customers. I've never been more disillusioned in a program that I thought so highly of...I have referred SO many families to FA. I believed in this school. I thought my kids would graduate here. Please go somewhere else where your kids aren't just a paycheck. Try Fredericksburg Christian Schools. You may have a better chance of finding a school where people actually care about you and your children as people and not just your money.

We loved Ms. McCluskey in the Pre-K3 the best. She was so great with our son. Also, the Pre-K4 teachers this year are wonderful (Ms. Fischer and her assistant Ms. Wilcox) are so compassionate and loving. The other teachers we had in Kindergarten and first grade were good with our daughter as well.

I am a former student and I wish I never went to FA. The lower school was fine but I was bullied so badly in middle and upper school, I am still having a hard time dealing with what happened to me. I used to be a happy and normal kid. Now I feel so badly about myself, I wonder if I will ever recover from the bullying I experienced. Every day I struggle to trust others, to trust myself even to trust my parents. I try not to think about what happened to me, but almost no day goes without me thinking about what was said and done to me. I just want to feel good about myself again and hope that someday I will be able to remember the good about lower school and forget middle and upper school. But how can anyone just erase a major portion of their school life in order to remember the good?

I am the parent of a student who attended Fredericksburg Academy for many years, graduated, and is now flourishing in the college environment. My child was well prepared for the college experience. The college counselor helped our child find the perfect college match. While at FA, my child was a middle of the pack type student who was afforded many opportunities to lead and excel. The experience was worth every penny! Our child's experience was with very qualified, caring, and competent teachers and advisors.

Save your money for college instead of blowing it on FA. While the school may have a few bright spots and a handful of die-hard supporters, FA comes up VERY short of its promises. Despite a tuition of over $20,000 year, FA cannot and does not compete with the academic, athletic or fine arts offerings available for free in the local public schools. An average student might feel like a big fish at FA, but that child will hardly be prepared to compete at the next level. In fact, look at the list of college admissions for recent FA graduates - very few top-tier colleges and certainly not a record to justify the expense of FA.

I am an FA parent. My children have flourished at this school. We do not have any connections to faculty or board members. Our children have always been treated respectfully and fairly. They have a very straight-forward and fair financial aid process, and the admissions office helped us every step of the way. The school works closely with our family (and many, many other families) to make tuition manageable. My children were lost in our other school....classes too big, behavior problems in the classroom, limited resources, teachers overwhelmed.. FA is totally different. The teachers know my children inside and out. The teachers are great communicators. They send weekly classroom newsletters home, email us regularly, and even called us at home twice during the year to check in. Who has time to do that? FA teachers make the time. The individualized attention is amazing. They know my children's strengths and weaknesses, and teach them at their individual level. They push them to succeed, while helping them work on the areas of school that challenge them. If you are thinking about it, I encourage you to come to the school for yourself. The tour is free and everyone is friendly. Don't be intimidated by the cost. You owe it to your child to come and visit, and make up your own mind. This is the best investment we have ever made. My only regret is that I waited to do it.

The teachers treat everyone the same. There is no preferential treatment, and all students are treated with respect. They teach basic skills in the classroom (look at people in the eye when you speak, shake hands, say please and thank you) and the expectation for student behavior is high, but age appropriate.

Small class sizes, teachers who care and a safe inclusive environment. Every student from the youngest to the oldest are encouraged to express themselves in a thoughtful manner. My children have and continue to grow as critical thinkers and honorable citizens. Further, they are eager to participate academically, athletically and as artists. I could not ask for more from a school.

Fredericksburg Academy is an amazing school and such an important part of our family's life. It is like a second family for all of us. The teachers are incredibly supportive and caring, the individualized attention provided by the teachers has made our child love learning, reading, and challenging himself in mathematics. In the Lower School, foreign language instruction beginning in PK, an emphasis on character, trust, and community, and differentiated teaching make FA the best place for our child. We love this school!

We came to FA because we believed that it was a school that would best meet the needs of our child; however, we were very wrong. Although there are a few good teachers, quality classroom instruction and classroom management are not the norm. Bullying is a constant issue and when it affected our child, not only did the teacher fail to act to prevent further problems but we also found the administration to be disinterested and unprofessional when approached. Furthermore, it is clear that the administration and teachers, (most of which currently have students enrolled in the school or previously had a student at the school) as well as the Board of Directors, are so busy trying to proclaim what a wonderful and special place FA is for students that they refuse to take a hard look at problems within the school s culture and within the classrooms in order to find solutions to these problems. Finally, in our time at FA, we have rarely felt that the outrageous tuition provided any benefit to our child.

This is our first year at FA and I must say we are very pleased with the progress our children have made thus far. Both of our children are recognizing their potential on so many different levels. We have a child in the Upper school as well as the Lower school and they are both challenged and motivated to be the best that they could possibly be as an individual and not grouped in with stereo typical views, which is what we experienced from a prior public school. We love that the administration is just as present in our children s lives as we are. The entire administration encourages the students to be responsible and engaged in what s happening in their lives now academically and socially, holding them responsible for their actions as well as preparing them for their future. It is the best decision and best investment we could have made for our children. I would highly recommend Fredericksburg Academy to other parents.

My school is Fredericksburg Academy located in Fredericksburg, VA. The campus is compact and convenient, close to major arteries, but tucked away just enough to feel special. The environment is engaging and diverse. The administration takes this seriously and demonstrates it by presenting opportunities for students to take part in activities to grow and challenge themselves all year long. I like the theater arts and music departments in particular. They encourage students to do great things. The faculty is energetic and committed to giving the students the best experience possible by perfecting their craft and sharing it with the community. Students are encouraged to give back to the community through various service projects. The class size promotes class participation, it's hard to hide!

We wasted time and money at FA while our child sank like a stone. I guess the other posters who found the teaching-quality "erratic" are spot-on, because we found few good teachers over the years, and a general lack of caring, communication and hands-on learning. The school seems to only fit average learners, and does little to challenge gifted kids or implement different strategies for different types of students. I think the SAT scores are high because so few students take the SAT (as few as 12 or so seniors) and they are not very diverse socio-econmically or otherwise. Good public schools still have to factor in the scores of disadvantaged and English-learners. FA is a ho-hum, nothing-to-see-here school that pretends to be an upper-eschelon college-prep school and charges the tuition for it. Avoid.

Our son were attending a public school, it was fine, but fine isn't good enough. We enrolled him at Fredericksburg Academy (FA) and the teacher said, "he took off like a rocketship!" And he is still flying high. FA allows students to be their absolute best.

Severely declining enrollment numbers speak louder than any one good or bad review. As current families depart FA, entire grades are dwindling to 10, 12, or 15 students, resulting in further lack of academic opportunities and social stagnation. For whatever reasons, parents are not finding value at FA and are voting with their feet.

We pulled our children out of a local area public school, that was said to be one of the better schools and moved our kids to FA. We have been very pleased. I think that to say FA is not strong academically is a farce - we have scored higher than any school in our region, public or private on the SAT, I think that speaks very highly of our teaching staff and curriculum. Also I would like to address the elitist - or nepotism comments, while that is something that this person has experienced it has not been our experience. I also think it is important to note we are on scholarship (so we're not wealthy), we are not on the board and we are not employed and we have experienced nothing but openness from the teachers as well as the administration. We arrived at FA reading on our grade level, but now we have skipped a grade level, thanks to the wonderful teaching staff at FA. As for financial problems, perhaps, however they pale in comparison to the public schools financial problems. There are areas of improvement that could be made, the lunch program, less screen time, but overall I would HIGHLY recommend FA to those who can afford, and to those who think they cant apply for finan

Simply not worth the money. Chronic low enrollment and financial struggles result in a poor learning environment for FA students. Corners are cut with staffing and the resulting quality of teaching varies greatly. Small class sizes do not compensate for teachers with no teaching credentials or experience, or with no skills to control their classrooms. The school administration puts fundraising above student well-being and has misplaced its sense of priorities. FA will not thrive without a significant change in leadership and direction.

The elementary (lower) school was not challenging at all. My child learned more at Montessori school. FA relys heavily on tech gadgets that are not even recommended for children at young ages. And there is constant pressure to donate more and more money all the time. The sky-high tuition is just the tip of the iceberg. Disappointing.

Fredericksburg Academy has been a blessing to all 3 of my children for many years. My oldest is going to graduate in June and is already getting sentimental about leaving a school that has given her many great memories on top of a great education. The incredible faculty has made this school the best in the area by far. I am thankful my children are surrounded by motivated teachers who care about all of their students.

I cannot agree with the parents writing rhapsodic reviews of FA. The school struggles financially, and has no clear sense of its mission or demographic. Too many students are children of the board members, donors, and teachers, giving it a very enclosed, even claustrophobic feeling. The high school has a handful of wonderful, devoted teachers but overall the teaching is very erratic, much more so than at a good public school. Their science programs are particularly weak at a time when, nationally and globally, STEM is increasingly important. While colleges and universities are turning off WIFI in their classrooms, FA has convinced itself that it's educationally sound to have students browsing the internet during class -- and they are quite militant about this position. Sounds like laziness to me. College prep? Maybe, in the most modest sense.

We moved our son, now a high schooler, from public school 5 years ago and have been very pleased with FA. He is challenged by the academics and motivated to do well. I have seen tremendous growth in his writing, critical thinking, and confidence. He participates in the arts, sports and student government and benefits from the small class size. I am curious about the previous comments regarding the athletics program. Both the girls and boys varsity basketball teams referenced in those comments made it to the finals in our athletic conference this year (the girls won & the boys placed second), and both coaches received "coach of the year" recognition! Go Falcons, Go FA!!

This week I attended an Upper School Senior Exhibit presentation and was amazed by the poise and confidence of the presenter, a member of the graduating class of 2013. This young woman stood before an audience of her peers, teachers, administrators, her mentor and a parent, and shared her two year journey of discovery and reflection. She shared all that she had learned about the topic she had chosen, about the application she had experienced and about the people she had met and learned from both within and outside of her school community. More importantly, she shared how she had come to discover so much about herself during this challenging and invaluable process. This young woman was my daughter; she took my breath away. If you visit campus you will see first hand how your child will be nurtured, challenged, supported and encouraged to be confident, articulate, and reflective in the classroom, on the playing fields, and beyond the campus by dedicated, invested educators.

During my time at FA, I felt like a contributing member of a community, rather than a number in the system like I had at the large public school I had previously attended. My success were celebrated and my failures were properly addressed so that I could learn from them. I took this attitude with me to college, where I immediately became involved in many leadership and service opportunities on campus and in the community - FA had instilled in me the sense that I had not only the right but the responsibility to be involved in shaping my school community. I did not shy away from difficult classes because FA taught me that challenges should be embraced. The education and support that I received at FA gave me a confident platform from which I felt comfortable and eager to try new things.

Athletic Program is being restructured to reduce cost. The previous writer is correct. The school is reducing cost by letting go of the professional coaching staff, and having the new Athletic Director act as a coach for some of the teams. They have already made the change for the boys varsity and are slowly following the public school cutback model. At FA, the students must take 2 sports per year, but unfortunately the sports coached by the adminstrative staff/ Athletic director are taught as recreational and not as a competitve sport. The athletics has declined dramatically over the past 2-3 months. We teachers are paid poorly here, and now administrators are being asked to do jobs that other trained professionals should be doing. Next the adminstrators will be teaching Math, to cut costs. All other private schools, like Fredeicksburg Christian have decent athletic programs, and hire professionals to teach athletics and not administrators. If you visit the school, do your child a favor and ask management about the staffing cutback in the athletics program. Just like the public schools, the cutbacks start outside of the classroom, just before it permiates into the classrm.

FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AT SCHOOL. This school has been making cutbacks and reducing the staff, and putting no importance on the athletics program. For example, the school has had a difficult time keeping athletic directors, most likely due to the poor pay. They recently went through three ADs in a span of four months. But recently the administration fired the basketball coach and asked the AD to perfrom the role as the basketball coach for the next severla years, in order to cut costs. I watched a game recently coached by the athletic director, and it was very sad to watch. The team was being slaughtered by another school, and the coach seemed out of touch. I felt sorry for this parent/ AD/ Coach/ scapegoat. He is obviously being forced to do something he is not qualified to do, and it is makig a mockery of the athletics program. I also feel sorry for the kids, and I am glad my daughter's coaching hasn;t changed yet. BUT WILL IT??? I fear aditional cutbacks will be made and the girls program will be crippled as well. The varsity basketball program is now a recreational program and the school has probably saved a few pennies.

Fourteen years ago, we enrolled our first child at the Academy. It wasn't in our plans to be in Fredericksburg for more than two more years at that point. We are still here and we have since enrolled three more Falcon's. We couldn't have asked for better experiences for each of our very different children. Each child is academically challenged daily just where they need to be, but even more importantly they are supported all the way through each of those challenges. The opportunities to be involved in sports, music, arts and top notch academic programs at the same time can't be found anywhere else locally. To think of how far they have come from exploring the Polar Express, to the first Middle School Dance and then the Senior Exhibit rounding them into wonderful individuals that understand the world around them and across the oceans makes me proud to be associated with each of them. The educational opportunities to partner Lower School students with Upper School students or Middle School students with AP students and see the outcome of their work firsthand is amazing. That first child is now y attending a top notch college on a Dean's Scholarship. We wouldn't be anywhere else.

Administration is weak. Student body is cruel to new students. Teachers are abused and overworked. I have never seen parent involvement that is so detrimental to a school. Parents run the school and administration is powerless. Parents of current students sit on the board of trustees, which is highly unethical. The teachers are the shining stars of this institution. Too bad they are treated so poorly. Honestly, administration should be ashamed of the way they treat their faculty.

I have two sons that came to FA after a long tenure in the public schools, and I can tell you that there is nothing like hearing about the differences in academics "from the mouths of babes." Both were blown away by the higher caliber of teaching. They report more challenging work, more classwork outside, more projects (almost all done at school), more experiments, more writing, and less busywork. We are a no-frills middle class family, and my sons have had NO PROBLEM AT ALL with the snob factor. Just the opposite, in fact. Many of the wealthiest students there are the nicest and best mannered. Your child may not be friends with everyone, but I guarantee you, he/she will be treated well while in school. Bullying is NOT TOLERATED and is seldom attempted. I am about to launch one FA son into college, and he is far better prepared than his older brother who went through 13 years of public schooling, most of which was done in the best schools of Stafford County. I urge you, if you have ever wondered what schooling would be like free of SOL's, give FA a visit. Let them try to meet your needs. You will be pleasantly surprised.

My three kids attended Fredericksburg Academy since Pre-Kindergarten. My oldest is currently in college and on the dean's list. He was not a high honor student at Fredericksburg Academy but compared to other students at his current college ( One of the great colleges) his work is a quality work. He could have attended this college if he was at another school but he would not carry quality education. The faculties are caring, great, and they work closely with students to ensure high achievements in addition, the curriculum is rigorous. My next son is currently a senior and my third son will be 1st year high school next year. I know that my kids are going to college because they possess the necessary education to lead their future. If you want to secure your son's/daughter's future, this school is worth every penny. I am not a wealthy person and financial aid is available.

I went to school here about fifteen years ago, so it should be noted that this review is not current. But with that in mind, I have serious doubts that the culture of the school has changed much over the years. I think for me that this kind of education was not a good fit for my personality. Everything from the clothes to rules to the demerits fostered a negative environment for education. The teachers at this school were great, and they are seriously underpaid and underappreciated there. It is an insult considering how much money parents pay to put their kids through school there. There is a culture of Fredericksburg elitism as others have posted, if you're not part of it your child will be an outcast and your vote counts for less in the PTA. There's no correlation bw going to private school and getting into better colleges. There are many excellent school districts in VA which is one of the blessings of VA education. You're better off taking advantage of that. Or move to CA. This school is very expensive. When I transferred to public school, I was much happier. I was not lacking in educational opportunities either. I took AP classes and got into a good college.

Our son started at FA at the beginning of his senior year. Our family has moved around a lot over my son's high school years. Unfortunatley, we needed to make a move late summer just before the start of his senior year. As you can imagine, this was a parent's students worst nightmare. We visited with several schools but FA was the clear choice by everyone, especially our son. FA was his first choice by a mile. The school is modern and the staff is very warm and friendly. Our son was quickly made to feel like he had attended FA for the last 3 years and was part of the family. We were also pleasantly surprised that they have full time staff dedicated soley to helping students with college selections, applications, test prep, and scholarships/financial aid awards. This alone is making a huge difference for our son. We have no doubt that FA was the right choice for us and will afford our son the best academic options as he moves on to college.

Our daughter just started her first year at FA. After having her enrolled in public school and realizing that she was not reaching her full potential we started searching private schools. After touring FA our daughter knew that FA was where she wanted to call home. From the moment she stepped on campus she was welcomed and was made to feel like she has been there for years. She has developed friendships so quickly and for a 7th grader that is hard. She is excited about getting up and going to school. She loves all of her classes and feels the teachers are actually challenging her. The classroom ratio is small so therefore she is getting more one on one attention and is able to excel because of the personal attention the teachers give each student. I would recommend FA to any family that is looking for a school that provides a strong academic curriculum, small classroom sizes, teachers that care, a staff that is beyond helpful and friendly, and wonderful piers with positive attitudes. We had to make some life style changes in order for her to attend FA but in the end we feel that our daughter will be very prepared for college and that is what really matters. FA is the best choice

We made the switch to FA and drive exceedingly far to attend. I cannot be happier. My child attends the lower school and he is challenged and loved. He runs into school everyday so excited to be there that he forgets to kiss me goodbye. He comes home with work that shows me more progress than I saw all year last year in his Montessori school, which saddens me, and makes me incredibly confident in my decision to switch. i wish we hadn't wasted time. And, we were welcomed with open arms. We have more friendly contacts in a matter of weeks than we had in months of his previous school. I cannot recommend FA highly enough. What a treasure. Very worth the drive for us. Wish we'd had the sense, and the knowledge to have switched earlier.

This is the first year for my son who is in 11th grade and this is the best move we ever made when it comes to his education. It has been a long time since I have seen the wheels moving in his mind. He is going to be challenged with a first rate education. He appreciates the small class size and the fact that at least two sports are mandatory, no matter how good you play. I am so impressed with this different approach to education. I know he will be going off to a good college after his time in this school. We are a military family, so many times it gets harder as children get older to move around, but FA has welcomed us with open arms and are actively preparing my son for future success when he is ready to go off to college. It is worth the money you invest now in your child's education, because the benefits are endless when it counts later. They do offer scholarship opportunities and other means in making this a priceless education and affordable. FA is worth the look when it comes to a grade "A" education.

Our daughter has gone to FA since Kintergarten. She is now a sophmore and the education she has received from FA has exceeded our expectations. The teachers are actually interested in our childs growth, she is not just another student. The learning environment at FA encourages and challenges students from the beginning to be the best they can be. We are not wealthy, but we wanted the best we could give our daughter and felt FA was the best. We made the right choice.

All of my children have been at FA since kindergarten, with my older ones now in middle school and soon in upper school. It only gets better, which is amazing because it started fantastically! The teachers at FA are such committed and enthusiastic professionals who work to bring EVERY student to a full realization of his or her potential, inside and outside the classroom. The classroom environments are challenging yet supportive, the community is diverse and inclusive and an amazing village of individuals, and the students themselves are so committed to the culture of learning that flourishes at FA. I am so very thankful that FA exists in our community, and cannot imagine our family's life without it.

My child is nurtured and challenged every day in FA's wonderful environment. His classroom has 18 students with 2 full-time teachers. They truly know each student. School is a place where he feels safe, loved, and free to be who he is. As a parent, I appreciate the classroom projects and activities that comes home in his folder each night, showing creativity and higher-level thinking than I would expect for his age group. But most of all, I appreciate the people--the teachers--who are the reason my child is excited to go to school every day.

As one of the many parents who drive 20 miles from the "best" public schools in Stafford County, I can tell you FA is worth the time and money. In public school, my child was bored stiff memorizing SOL facts, watching disney movies, and listening to books on tape in class. FA's curriculum is SO much richer and more challenging - essay writing in History, analysis and discussion of classic literature in English, building cell models and examining slides under the microscope in Science. Just as important, the FA community we have experienced is warm, welcoming and down-to-earth. Our child is happy and challenged, and I can't imagine a better learning environment than FA!

Our child attended this school for several years. Although it is better than most of the public schools in the area, we felt that the cost was too high. The lower school curriculum did not challenge our high achieving child and the administration is not receptive to parent feedback. In addition, there are poor teachers on staff, some of which are not certified in education. The other private schools in the area do an equal or better job at LESS THAN HALF the cost of FA. In addition, bullying by the wealthy "in crowd" is tolerated and nepotism is prevelant. If I had it to do over I would have either moved to Stafford County or began at another private school in our area.

This is my children's 4th school in 6 years because of frequent moves. It is by far the most welcoming school they have ever attended. We were a little worried because it is a small student body who have been together for years. However, my kids (middle and upper school) were warmly accepted from the beginning by both students and staff. The quality of the education is outstanding - challenging but supportive. I feel the quality and style of instruction allows both my children every opportunity to be successful. The extra-cirricular programs are wonderful - particularly the Global Explorers Program. The athletic program has room for growth - which is typical of a small private school, Also it is expensive - but financial aid is available. We are very happy to have chosen FA.

Fredericksburg Academy is the fourth school that our children have attended. It is by far the best! Our children were welcomed into the community from day one. They are challenged, engaged and happy. The staff is the most caring and supportive that we have experienced. In addition to the strong academic program the opportunites outside of the classroom are numerous. Our children have travelled abroad, studied at the Cheasapeake Bay, performed on stage, volunteered in the community and participated in sports, all under the guidance of FA faculty. It truly is a wonderful school.

The return far exceeds the cost. Two years ago, with great trepidation we transferred our children to FA. It was the best decision we have ever made. They were made to fell welcome from moment one. the teachers are dynamic, hard working and make the kids love school.
