Montessori School of Northern Virginia (MSNV) - Valleybrook Campus

Our daughter has been at MSNV for a year and a half and we've had a wonderful experience across the board. The teachers are lovely and have a thoughtful approach to exposing kids to the Montessori approach to learning and developing. The experience is not flawless, as there are always things that could be improved. COVID has made interactions and updates more difficult. My son (who is too young to attend MSNV) goes to a "baby Montessori" where they give frequent and daily updates (and photos) via the Brightwheel app. I don't care too much about spending the day "spying" on my kid, but anyone with toddlers knows that getting on update on what they did at school can be touch. It would be nice to ask my daughter "Oh, I saw you were learning about volcanos at school today. Would you tell me what you learned?" instead of asking "What did you do at school today?" and hear back crickets. Basically, I would like a way to be more engaged what my daughter is doing in school so we can talk about it and reinforce it at home.

My child attended the school for one year and it was a disappointing experience. The school administration was patronizing in engaging with us and made unilateral decisions about our child, which would have had a significant impact on our child’s education, without collaborating with us. I would not recommend this school.

I cannot comment on the school itselt but the admission process is flawed. They call you over and over again but dont value your time or schedule.

We have three kids at MSNV and love the school. We were at Valleybrook campus the first year it opened, but we have since moved up to the Hillbrook campus for the elementary program. The two campuses are very different but the classrooms at both have lots of windows and great playgrounds. We have had eight teachers and found them all to be excellent, dedicated, and always responsive to our questions. The administration is efficient and communicates what is going on in the school. Parents are highly involved in the classroom and there is a real sense of community among the school's families. There are a few Montessori programs that are as good as MSNV's--but they all cost twice as much. Seriously, one of the best Montessori schools in the Washington, D.C. region.

We have three kids in this school and are very happy there. The new Valleybrook campus has an awesome "natural" playground and an environmentally friendly "green" roof, while the older Hillbrook campus has a beautiful large wooded playground. The school is run as a parent cooperative, so it is governed by the parent body; but day-to-day teaching and administration is by highly qualified staff. Parents are expected to volunteer a significant amount of time during school year, which ensures all families are actively involved in the school. Also, given the highly educated and committed families, the school benefits greatly from the time and talents of the parents.

Our two children attend MSNV Valleybrook. Not only is it a delightful setting, but the teachers are amazing. Montessori methods and curriculum are fully implemented. This is working for our children.

While the school is a bit expensive, I have found it to be price comparative amongst its competitors. My child has been attending here for 2 years now and we plan on keeping her there throughout her elementary years. The principal, office staff and teachers are the best quality any school could get. They are very attentive, listen to parents and childrens' needs, they have an open door policy and are very family oriented. My daughter at the age of 4 is writing and I attribute this to the quality of the teacher's. They are on top of the children needs and allow for different style learners to explore their potentials. We highly recommend this school and are planning on enrolling our second one as soon as he is age appropriate. The school has two campuses (one in Annandale Hillbrook and the Valleybrook campus which just open this past year).
