Positive notes: The lead teachers that my children had were very kind and supportive. It seemed they were eager to teach and help my children learn. The nature studies program was an amazing component and the kids got a lot of outdoor time which is important. I loved that students from all grade levels interacted socially and educationally with one another. Regular parent involvement and ability to participate in classroom events was another positive attribute.

On the other end, administration really lacks the behavior you would expect from employees of a Christian school. Very rude and condescending conversation that make you feel like a failure as a parent. There is very little tolerance for a child who even steps one toe out of line. This applies for children in their JK program (as young as 4). Unrealistic behavior expectations for such young children, causing them to encourage parents to make their child repeat the level unnecessarily. A lack of trained assistants in the JK program made this considerably worse. Overall, a lack of support amd patience from administration, with the teacher's having to follow suit.

I wholeheartedly agree with other reviewers who mention a very cliquey atmosphere which is highly influenced by financial status. Basically, if the school wants you out, you will be pushed out by any means necessary, regardless of child performance. This is contradictory to their website which encourages families of all financial backgrounds to apply for aide and attend. There is a hugh push for donations from parents and grandparents for nearly every school function which sucks the joy out of enjoying your child's education and growth.

All in all, we spent months reparing the damage that this school caused to my child's self-esteem, personality, and anxiety. My kids are much better off in their new school with zero complaints of "bad" behavior. If you don't want your child to turn out to be a perfect little robot with all of their individuality squashed, please do not send them here.

We did a lot of research before deciding to send our children to Faith Christian School. Ultimately, we chose and continue to choose Faith for three reasons: we feel that the classical Christian model will best prepare our children to be lifelong learners who seek out truth, the faculty and staff are committed to partnering with parents, and FCS consistently produces graduates who demonstrate the traits we hope to see in our children. The classical Christian model of education focuses on both the basics and abstract concepts, and as a result it challenges our kids and promotes significant academic growth. It has been fun to see our children gain a sense of accomplishment after tackling a tough problem or project! Parents should understand that this type of education translates into a rigorous academic program, even in the youngest grades. We typically spend 30 minutes going over homework with our 3rd grader 4-5 nights a week and 10-15 minutes with our Kindergartener on 3-4 nights a week. Some of this is assigned work and some of this is review that we feel our children need (based on grades, strengths/weaknesses, etc.). The school works to accommodate children with learning differences. A full time student support teacher helps assess each student's progress and helps meet the needs of those with different learning styles. The faculty / staff at Faith are incredible part of the school teachers return calls and emails quickly, offer suggestions when asked or needed, and provide frequent communication. Our children love their teachers! Lastly, when we toured the school before sending our oldest child there to start Kindergarten, we took time to visit the lower school (of course) but also toured the upper school. We were so impressed by the 11th and 12th grade students that we met! They all spoke to us confidently they looked us in the eye, shook our hands, and answered our questions without hesitation. They spoke to our daughter (who was 4 at the time) kindly and often knelt down to speak with her on eye level. They were able to talk with us about their thesis projects and answer our questions thoughtfully. We agreed that the 11th and 12th students we met would stand out in a field of job or scholarship applicants. Our family is so thankful to call FCS our academic home, I strongly encourage anyone who is interested in Faith Christian to make time to visit and learn more about what the school can offer your family.

My kids have attended Faith Christian School since Kindergarten/Junior Kindergarten and we have been very pleased with the school. They are receiving a rigorous and thoughtful Christian education that is developing both their minds and their hearts. Teachers are invested in their students and know and love them well. The administration is receptive to concerns/difficulties and has an open door atmosphere. The school is surrounded and upheld by prayer - both by parents and faculty/administration. Additionally, I see my students being consistently engaged and challenged in their classes. As my kids have matured I am also seeing more and more the value of the authentic relationships they have built with their teachers and classmates. Faith Christian School is a partnership between parents and the school to grow children equipped for the call God has placed on their lives.

We have been thrilled with our experience at Faith Christian School. Our oldest son started in Kindergarten and our younger son started in the inaugural Junior Kindergarten class and ten years later we love it more every day. The dedication by the faculty and staff to pour into their students both academically and spiritually has been amazing to watch year after year. My sons have strived in the Classical Christian model of education as they become stronger writers, speakers and learn to ask good questions during their course of study. The community that we are a part of have become like family and is extremely supportive in so many ways in and out of school. We highly recommend FCS to anyone looking to enroll their child for the first time or make a change later in the school years.

FCS does not offer help for children who need one-on-one care or tutoring. They do not have a kitchen or cafeteria staff, so local restaurants cater lunches on a daily basis (not the healthiest or most cost-efficient option; due to COVID-19 pandemic [effective 2020 school year], everyone is required to pack lunches). Annual events such as Project Faith (where parents, students, and teachers volunteer for 3 hours for local organizations), and even Grandparents Day are less for fellowship amongst the community, but more geared towards fundraising/marketing for the school - specifically grandparents day, where instead of enjoy their grandchild's academic excellence, grandparents sit through a mandatory hour-long assembly led by school heads who gloat about the school and all-but demand grandparents donate towards their grandchild's tuition. Lunch is not served to students whose accounts are in the negative (even though parents are responsible for this - and it can be due to anything from a missed tuition payment to something as trivial as a fee for a field trip). Very cliquey atmosphere - to give you an idea, each year at their auction fundraiser event, things like a ride in the head of school's fancy sports car, or a 1 of 3 designated special parking spots are up for grabs to the highest bidder. So naturally, the families that can afford to bid the highest get these little royalties, and of course are treated accordingly - and attitudes/airs follow suit. The school most definitely discriminates against low-income families - they get away with this by requiring students to be assessed at the beginning of each school year, not just for new, prospective students but returning students as well. And regardless of what you know to be true of your child's academic performance (because parents know their child best), if FCS doesn't believe you to be a good fit in their community they won't up-front tell you, they'll simply blame it on your child's intelligence (or lack thereof), according to them. It's quite astonishing. Many families have left. If moving to area, I strongly encourage you to pursue any number of the other wonderful private and public schools in the area - your child will be better cared for, have healthier lunches, and will definitely grow much better as a healthy individual somewhere else.

I am sold on Faith Christian School. My son started in 1st grade (now 10th) and my daughter in Kindergarten (now 6th). They participate in sports and other extracurricular activities, excel academically, are so much more courteous and caring than I remember any kids being when I was in school, and process their decisions through a Christ-focused lens. On my list of priorities, that meets all of them. Five Star Rating without a doubt.

Our two daughters attended FCS from grammar school through graduation. The school has very strong academics, loving teachers and administration and a family atmosphere in a Christian environment.

My three children attended Faith in the lower and middle schools before we moved out of state. It is a wonderful school: the academics promote the pursuit of wisdom and virtue with a constant focus on Truth, Beauty, and Goodness over preparing for standardized tests, the dumbed-down common core, or the utilitarianism of modern progressive education. Far and away the best Christian academic community in the Roanoke Valley.

The school seeks to pursue wisdom and virtue with a constant focus on Truth, Beauty, and Goodness rather than the utilitarian, vocational, test-driven, information focused modern progressive schools. Absolutely the best Christian academic community in the Roanoke Valley.

I highly recommend Faith Christian if you're thinking about a change for your child this coming year. Hands-down best decision we could have made. And tuition is indexed if you, like me, aren't well-off. The academics are rigorous, but the teachers know how to teach it so that each child can learn. There are some great sports and drama and other activities to participate in. Plus...each year Faith does something called "Project Faith." The kids go out with adults and make a real difference in our Valley by painting and cleaning and helping out local organizations. In other words, they learn that their time and effort can make a real difference in their world. By the way, Faith is Gospel-based and Grace-based, not rules and legalism. That meant EVERYTHING to me. Trent isn't penalized for going to a non-Christian concert, for instance. When he had long hair, that was just fine. Talk to these guys...your child's education is worth it.

We are so thankful that we chose to send all three of our children to Faith Christian School. We were looking for a school that would provide them with an outstanding academic background in a Christian environment. We have not been disappointed! Our children are not only receiving a strong education , but our Christian faith is being woven into every aspect of the classes that they taking. They are being challenged not only to know what they believe but why they believe and how to defend it. The teachers have been more than willing to go the extra mile any time one of my children was struggling. The added bonus is that I know that they truly care for my children, know my children and pray for them. We love Faith Christian School and are very grateful for the impact it has had on our children's lives.

Faith Christian is an outstanding school built on the core values of being Centered on Christ, Committed to Classical Approach and Connected as a Learning Community. The school teaches children to actively learn in an environment that allows God to remain the final authority. The teachers show a true passion for the students and smaller class sizes allow for more one on one interaction. The school strives to consistently give back to the community with a school wide community service project that teaches children the value of doing for others. Faith Christian is Christ-focused and allows children to grow in their faith and encourages them to have a biblical worldview. We enrolled our children in Faith Christian School because we desired a rigorous education in a Christian atmosphere. Our son and daughter began in the lower grades. As they made their way into the upper school, we were able to see the effects of this superior education. The intentional instruction and mentoring by strong Christian teachers is evidenced by their ability to engage their world and strong grasp of essential educational concepts. The investment of their education at Faith is one that given the opportunity we would most assuredly make again.

I can't imagine sending my boys to any other school. They came from a public school which was little more than a dysfunctional baby-sitting service. The teachers at Faith are the type that actively care about their students to the point that they stay after school for one-on-one time, they email individual parents home with thoughts, concerns, and praise. There are plenty of places that will watch your kids for 7 hours a day, but none will have a better impact on your family and the future than FCS. If I could spend twice the money and get twice the impact, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Transferring my children to Faith Christian has been one of the single best decisions I have made as a parent. My daughter graduated June 2013 (now in college). She only attended for High School, but it changed her life for the better. She transferred from one of the best public schools in the area, had good friends, etc but the things going on socially with her friends were such a distraction. She blossomed at FCS - as challenging as it is academically, she actually became a better student, became fully engaged in her learning (goodbye social distraction!), took on leadership roles in organizations, and grew in her faith. The friends she met at FCS are for a lifetime. No cliques...everyone in her grade did things as a group. The teachers are 100% invested in their students. My daughter received a full college scholarship and is now active in college campus ministry. I am a single parent with limited income, had no idea how I could afford it...but God opened doors. This year I moved my son (8th gr) to FCS from public school. He did NOT want to go! Only 3 weeks into it, he said "Mom, I'm so glad I'm at FCS!". God is alive and at work in this school! I am so grateful!
