At first, PWA seemed to be promising. However, poor leadership and an absent owner has been the demise of this school. Leadership has undermined parents and their envolvment; while also blatantly lying about important information. The only positive is that teachers do go over and beyond for the students, but with limited support from admin. The admin likes to give text book Chat GPT answers to quiet the parents. They like to pretend like they have the answers, but fall short with coming up with results and solutions. They rave about curriculum, but you can get better in a neighboring school. Until the admin and owner truly do and care about their jobs, and stop lying to parents; I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. The fact that you have great staff walking out 3 weeks before school ends shows how much they value their staff. They are about the money!!! That's it! Tuition is twice what you would pay at another private school. But, teachers are buying their own supplies, there is never any soap or toilet tissue in the bathroom, and my child constantly got sick from the lack of cleanliness of the school. This school is a prime example of how poor leadership can outweigh amazing teachers. It truly is sad. The dishonest nature of this school was very disappointing.

We adore the Prince William Academy in Woodbridge, Virginia. From the teachers to the students to the challenging educational modules. The school curriculum has created an extensive and well-organized Academic program. It fosters sound leadership skills while learning in a creative and structured environment of kindness, and responsibility. Good efforts by all Prince William Academy Leadership, Teachers, and Staff. We had high hopes for PWA but therere so many concerns regarding the overall school climate, I no longer feel confident that this environment is safe, inclusive, and supportive for my child. I have observed or been made aware of continued bullying, perceived unfair treatment, and incidents involving discriminatory language among students. These issues, combined with what I believe to be inconsistent intervention and supervision, have contributed to a divisive atmosphere that does not align with the values I expect from a school community. The new owner is always absent, and the staff just doesnt care.

Additionally, I have concerns about the level of academic transparency and classroom engagement. For example, my child has never brought home any work from art class, which raises questions about what activities are taking place and how student participation and learning are being supported. This lack of visibility into classroom work further contributes to my concern about the overall educational experience.

I am also concerned about the limited enrichment opportunities offered to students. The school has not participated in local academic or creative events such as art competitions, spelling bees, or similar activities that encourage student growth, confidence, and engagement. These types of opportunities are important for a well-rounded educational experience and their absence is disappointing.

Furthermore, there appears to be a lack of parent engagement and appreciation. Throughout my childs time at the school, there have been no school-sponsored events where parents were invited to participate, connect with staff, or engage with the school community. This absence of family involvement opportunities contributes to the feeling that parent partnership is not being prioritized, despite the significant financial commitment families make.

Another significant concern has been what appears to be flourishing favoritism within the school environment. Over time, I have observed inconsistencies in how students are treated and how concerns are addressed, creating the perception that some individuals receive preferential treatment while others do not. This undermines trust in the schools leadership and commitment to fairness.

Think the old reviews were bad? Think again. The difference between the previous owner and the new management during the 20252026 school year is impossible to ignore. The former owner was at least present, addressed problems directly, and gave clear answers. The new owner is absent, and it shows.

Since the transition, at least one grade has become a cautionary tale: frequent teacher absences, last-minute substitutes, and no consistent curriculum. When families raised concerns, they were met with polished, evasive responses that sounded more like PR spin than genuine engagement. Reports of troubling student experiences circulated widely, and several families withdrew after repeated issues. The situation became so notorious that even parents outside the affected grade were aware something was seriously wrong. Schoolwide events were often promoted with fanfare but lacked substance, leaving families confused and unsupported.

The new leadership also seems to misunderstand why families choose private education. Many parents seek a learning environment free from political messaging. Instead, overt ideological symbols and affirmations appeared throughout the school. Some were later removed, but not before trust was eroded. Not only that, the head of school has publicly expressed a dismissive attitude toward parents. In a widely visible Facebook post, he wrote: I cannot stress this enough, you are not teachers. I mean, like me, some of you are. But for the most part, you are not trained to bring planned instruction to your children. This confirmed what many already suspected: a leadership style that talks down to families rather than collaborating with them. Given his controversial history at Twin Rivers and JO Wilsonboth of which faced serious community backlash during his tenurethis isnt surprising.

At this point, its hard to believe the new leadership has any intention of improving. PWA now barely distinguishes itself from the local public schoolsaside from uniforms, the private label, and a hefty tuition bill.

Hidden gem! We feel so lucky to have found Prince William Academy this year. Our kids have thrived here and we love the emphasis on excellence, community involvement, diversity, and foreign languages. Because of the small size, teachers are able to teach to the child's level, providing more review or advancing them to something more challenging. We have been impressed with the caliber of teachers and the Principal, Dr. Rebecca Nykwest, who has been wonderful during this very difficult year. The school has done a great job with enforcing COVID protocols while maintaining a semblance of normalcy for students. It is small but can accommodate additional students. We hope more families will join and keep this amazing school thriving in our community.

Its all about the money. The school began offering tuition assistance to certain students but did not disclose to anyone that it was ever an option. They beg for money for everything, parents who pay full price are stupid because its being given to someone else to pay for their tuition. Sorry but our tuition should be used for items the school needs, not to pay for some else to attend that should be going to public school.
Then you are asked to pay an expensive activity fee and Again for every activity that happens. The school is always struggling financially.

She seemed to understand as she discussed plans to implement system that ensured fairness throughout class, however that was not the case. Homework reflects the learning module which makes sense but when the teacher doesnt know how to explain the lesson, the homework is useless. Parents spend more time trying to explain the concept than practicing the problems.

Let me begin with the positive. There are some really nice and qualified teachers in the school. That being said, all
Teachers are not created equal. We left the school because the teacher who replaced the best teacher lacks the qualifications and depth of experience to teach and manage children. She succeeded in getting two boys kicked out of the school in a two month period. She doesnt communicate well, cant explain concepts to parents ( every time I asked a question she had to get back to
Me). And perhaps the school Administrators wanted them out because the school was becoming diverse with the inclusion of more African American children.

These are attributes that parents have instilled in their children. Its refreshing to see these traits in kids. Although they still whine, tattletale, and act super silly, they are good kids. I do find that more needs to be done with bullying. Some kids inappropriate behavior gets overlooked especially if you have been in the school forever and are of middle eastern descent.

The quality of staff is inconsistent from teacher to teacher. Constant turnover may mean your child may have 3 or 4 different teachers in a year. Aftercare staff is untrained, not caring, and clueless about how to communicate to parents or look after a child and seems overwhelmed at times. Some teachers seem lethargic and unenthusiastic, watching the clock to go home.

Better than most daycares in the area. There are awards and recognitions for kids who display integrity. Bulking behavior is not addressed, and aggressive kids continue attending because administration is more focused on collecting tuition checks than on addressing a clearly problematic child with notebooks worth of recorded incidents and complaints from multiple families.

The director will sit down with you and listen to your concerns, but no changes will be implemented after the fact. Waste of time. Admin staff is untrained, breakdown in communications is obvious, you get a different story and directions depending on who you talk to. Very disorganized.

The academics are great, but the daily "art" project consists of a teacher doing most of the work to make it look like your child did something amazing. Some of the teachers could use some enthusiasm. Also, the fact that they close with the same schedule as the county for children in the 1-4 year old rooms is beyond stupid. Those children are there for daycare, parents have jobs and need to be there. Calling it pre-school to make an extra $50 a day is ridiculous and completely inconsistent with other private schools.

The school has been in business for over 30 years and they don't have a streamlined admin process. You would think by now that leadership would step in when necessary and ensure front desk staff is trained and proper communications were distributed to parents.

This school was highly recommended to us, we did the tour and was impressed with the facility and the fact that they offer foreign languages. It is a private school, tuition was a bit high but we were willing to pay more for a high quality education and top notch teachers and staff. Unfortunately, when my daughter started it felt different than the tour. We transferred her from a very welcoming environment where the teacher greeted the students enthusiastically and seemed very happy to interact with the kids. At PWA, her particular teacher did not seem too eager/ enthusiastic and my daughter did not as welcomed as her other school, to be honest we felt the same way, and for weeks she said that she doesn't like the school, friends nor the teacher. I was reaching out more to them than they were to me, as a new comer, I thought they were supposed to give me some directions on first day of class. We started in the summer, they said it is different in the summer, but still, I did not get the information needed, I had to ask for it and they seem annoyed when I asked, there was no welcome letter or anything. I don't easily get annoyed so I let that go, small admin issues. My daughter happiness was a bigger issue. We did address this issue to the principal in which he kindly responded to give it more time, kids takes a while to adjust sometimes, we appreciated that he took his time during his busy schedule to talk to us. My daughter is very social and easily adjusted to her environment but after first day of school at PWA she threw a tantrum for half an hour. I chose to listen to my gut and decided to take her out of this school. In addition, the staff, especially the front desk were not that nice to us either, my husband was upset one day because she was rude to him, we really did not feel welcomed. We really tried to give PWA a chance, we wanted it to work, but it is just not a fit for our family. At the end we transferred our daughter to a different school and paid the penalty fee. Please be aware that the new contract says you need 90 days of notice if you want to take your child out, I thought that was too much, we didn't know if our child will like the school, everything is trial and error with kids, the principal was willing to work with us thankfully. Listen to your child and your instinct, PWA is not a fit for everyone. My daughter now attends a different school, which is a lot cheaper with very caring teachers and friendly staff and positive environment. She came home singing on the first day, she loves the teacher and her friends. PWA might be excellent for other kids, but it was not for us.

The 2016-2017 school year was my child's first year at PWA and as we are heading into the second quarter we have decided to remove our child from this environment. I'll begin with the positive aspects of the school. The academics are a grade ahead which was good because it offered my child a challenge. The weekly homework packet offers about 30 minutes to an hour and a half of homework each night depending on if the child can work independently, how quickly they work, and there attention span at the end of the day after school all day. Some weeks homework packets are easier to complete than others, but family schedules and plans can also be affected or affect homework completion. With that being said academics and homework level are good . My reason for the one star rating is from our experience with some, not all of the teachers and staff, and also the students and parents of the students in my child's class. My son was constantly bullied and harassed by other students. On one occasion my child was even held down and by two students one of which told my child that their father told them to beat my child up because there was a previous incident between by child and that child. Unfortunately no staff members witnessed the attack and therefore nothing was done. I tried to convince myself that it was just children rough housing on the playground but almost every other day my child informed of the same child or other children saying mean and hurtful things. My guidance to my child was to steer clear of the mean children but unfortunately there paths seemed to cross and the other children would still harass my child when the teacher wasn't looking. Several parents are advocates for their bullying children and unfortunately those same parents make considerable donations to the school which means those children remain in the school due to their financial status despite their unruly habits. If you are looking for a school with an emphasis on providing your child a well rounded education in a safe environment free from discrimination or harassment then PWA is NOT the school for you or your child. Parent to parent, please listen to your children when they inform you of issues or injustices at school. I wish I had removed my child from this school months ago.

Prince William Academy has been a Godsend for our family! We were relocated in December 2015, with no family nearby or familiarity with schools/childcare options. We initially had our daughters in a childcare center, however after 4 weeks had to find an alternative due to lack of structure and care. I attended a preschool fair at the local library and met the PWA representatives. My daughters are now enrolled in the Jr. K and Preschool 2s classes. The curriculum is structured and very well rounded and includes gym, language arts and cultural diversity. PWA is not just a school, they are a family and part of the community. PWA offers before school starting at 6am and after school until 630pm, they do their best to offer childcare on snow days as well. Lunch can be provided at the school if desired. The pre/post school and snow day childcare options are not available anywhere else. PWA has given my husband and I peace of mind knowing our daughters are cared for in a nurturing and loving environment and being taught by very dedicated and skilled educators. The teachers truly care about each and every child. PWA keeps parents informed with weekly emails regarding school news and lesson plans. In this day and age, when both parents work (or when there is a single parent) it is a blessing to know PWA is there to help you juggle all aspects of childcare in addition to providing a top notch education experience.

Absolutely wonderful!! Love the small class sizes and close knit community. Plenty of foreign languages, extra curricular activities , loving teachers , high levels of academic achievement constitute high standards that are tough to beat by the public school system .

My son started at Prince William Academy 2 weeks before beginning Kindergarten (Aug 2015). It was a great idea suggested by the staff and other parents. The suggestion wasn't for 2 weeks specifically, but I thought that it was a good enough head start for him to get familiar with his new school before starting the Kindergarten program. Formerly, he attended Little Lambs, Inc. in Woodbridge for preschool, which did a great job preparing him for the elementary level. I'm so happy with our experience with PWA. The staff, parents and students are great and they strive for a high standard of excellence. I'm in constant contact with his teacher through email and in person, and the school's administration is always reachable in person, by phone and email. Both Kindergarten teachers are amazing. My son broke his arm during labor day weekend at the beginning of the school year and my husband and I were so concerned with him falling behind, but they made sure that he didn't miss a beat. The kept him engaged while caring for his safety during his intense healing process. The parents association really tries to get parents involved in all aspects of the school. It's an environment that makes you want to get involved and volunteer (even though we are all super busy working parents). Academically, my son is learning at a 1st and 2nd grade level with reading, math and language arts. He is learning computer technology, art, science, and additional languages like Spanish (which he started back at Little Lambs, Inc.) and Mandarin. I love the standard that his teacher sets for the classroom. She is pleasant, kind, caring, patient and effective with her teaching methods. She recognizes each of the special gifts that the students bring to the class and tries to cultivate and enhance their confidence. This allows the students to want to learn and try new things. He also attends the after care program that is mostly administered by the actual teachers and they help him with his homework. Of course, the cost of the tuition was a factor that my family had to consider with everything else we have going on, but I'm writing this to say that we made a great choice with Prince William Academy. A wonderful school ! If you are looking for small class sizes, Loving staff, High standards of achievement and excellence .. Look no further . Both my sons attend this school and we are extremely pleased at the high standards of education that are maintained in a very family friendly environment. Our children are not just numbers . Their teachers cared very much about their grades, level of understanding , ensuring that concepts were very clear to them. Definitely not for us. I should have known during my visit prior to signing a contract not to send my daughter to this school. The push to sign the contract, how the yelp and other low review comments being posted were probably written by former staff that had been fired or parents that couldn't afford the tuition should have been a big red flag. Not following my initial instinct after moving to the area shortly before school began we made the decision to sign. Problems began almost immediately. It was clear the teacher we had been assigned was not up to the task. While being told repeatedly by the principal that teachers "should be following the curriculum and if they weren't it was because they weren't following the criteria for the school I realized this was just another excuse. The work that the students were getting was most of the time above what they were capable of and we, like other parent's in my child's class were spending hours each week night on homework for things they had not covered in class. From speaking to the other parents, this was the norm as the school had an aggressive schedule to stay on the right page of the text, based on the date. Snow days counted, for instance, if you missed 2 days due to snow, when our child returned they were 2 days ahead in the workbook, the pages that would have been assigned during those days were missed. This set our child as well as others up to remain behind. When we brought this to the administrations attention we were told we could "hire" a tutor at the school or seek outside assistance. I found this to be interesting since one of the initial selling points was the teachers utilized differentiated teaching and children coming in usually integrated seamlessly. While the school does provide a caring environment, most schools do, public and private.

Prince William Academy has a fantastic infant program. I looked at dozens of programs and I am so happy I picked this one. They have small classes and the friendliest staff. The teachers do a great job communicating with me adhering to my child's schedule. I recommend this program to all of my expecting friends!

I recommend the elementary program to parents who are searching for a robust curriculum and dynamic staff. The small classes has allowed my child to learn at his own pace and to exceed in so many areas. The teachers are very responsive and the front office staff know us by our names. The administrators have an open door policy. PWA is great and my children will be attending through Elementary and Middle School.

Due to the limitations of this site, I cannot write a complete review. Sadly, I am really sorry to have to give such a poor review of the school, as I started with such high hopes that steadily declined throughout the school year. While there are so many 'little' instances of failure, the culminating event was -- bring your favorite monster and monster book to school day. My child was so excited to finally be able to bring one of his toys to school, and was then told to put it away and admonished for bringing it to school. Apparently no one told the substitute about the event and the other children didn't participate. No one told me about the substitute (for a week!) and I got a crying, sad boy when I picked him up from school. Again... just one of the many, many stories I collected over the year. Now, I decided to move my child at the beginning of the summer to a summer program, but continue to pay the fees of the 'current school year' which do not end until August 31 per my contract. Two words for this bad decision on my part... EPIC FAIL.

Prince William Academy is the best private school in Woodbridge. This school not only has very challenging and advanced curriculum but also offers 5 languages. This is our second year at Prince William Academy and my child loves this school. The Principal and the staff are highly educated with College Degrees, very professional, very helpful and they treat students and parents with lot of respect. We feel fortunate that our child attends this school. We highly recommend this school to all the parents looking for good private school.

This school has many aspects that make it stand out from other schools. The international atmosphere there is gives you the right niche for your kids to grow academically and personally. We have been very happy with the staff, instruction and care we have received that we already two children, planning on registering one more in the upcoming year.

This school was a great surprise. Not only is it local, it is a highly advanced learning center for preschool age all the way up to middle school age! I love the world based program and the learning experience my 3 year old receives. Great teachers and Great staff, make for a great school. Prince William Academy has a multicultural, diverse student body and staff . The atmosphere is welcoming and the small teacher- student ratio allows for close mentoring of students. The new principal has strong leadership qualities and is making positive changes in the curriculum and use of technology, especially in the elementary school.

My children (3 and 5) have been attending PWA since Summer Camp 2013 so we have experienced both the camp and academic aspect of the school and we could not be happier. The children have met so many great friends and they adore their teachers. The curriculum is amazing and my son who is in Jr. Kindergarten and just turned 5 is READING! My daughter has also learned so much in preschool including Spanish and Mandarin. I highly recommend PWA to anyone with school aged children considering private school in the No. VA area.

My son is currently enrolled in the Jr K at PWA. My husband, son and I are all very happy with the school. He is eager to go to school everyday and loves to tell me about what he learned. I really like that they have classes that are fun and kids learn so much. My son is currently 4 years old and is learning to read. I love that they have homework so I can help him with it as well as know exactly what he's learning in class. He knows his numbers, simple addition and subtraction, is learning science and songs. PWA also offers extracurricular activities after school such as- dance, Engineering for Kids, soccer, drama to name a few. I love this because my son will go to these activities instead of their afterschool program (which is also such a perk for full time workers and a great chance for kids to play and interact with other kids). My son will attend PWA for Kindergarten, and we'll reevaluate each year after. Things we will consider are quality of education, teachers, TUITION, extra curricular activities.

The preschool program is phenomenal as Jr. K students are reading by the end of the school year. The elementary program is great too, and the school has many exceptional teachers. This school provides, for the most part, a caring environment for students. The principal wants to make it a great school, but the current teaching staff (with some notable exceptions) is not up to the task. There curriculum (or lack thereof) varies from grade-to-grade, there is no consistency or structure. Though the school claims 100% "certification" of its teachers, parents might research the standards for Certification, which are rather sparse and vastly different from those required in VA public schools. While certification alone does not guarantee quality teaching, it does ensure that teachers have some background in childhood development, teaching theories, etc. We have found both excellent and very POOR teachers at the school - truly the entire spectrum of teaching abilities and personalities. However, the frequent lack of professionalism made us finally give up. We are searching for a new school. PWA could be great but, sadly, is not.

We have spent four years at Prince William Academy and now greatly regret enrolling our child in the elementary school. There is good reason people flee this school after kindergarten, and its not all just because they plan to attend public school. We have found utter lack of consistency in applying curriculum, uniform standards, and even grading. Compared to other private schools in the area, the school requires parents to purchase laptops but lacks a technology curriculum. Teachers cannot articulate clear objectives for lessons, projects, or languages. Unless your boy is more like a girl, he WILL be discriminated against. Academically, it is very hit or miss. Without our constant involvement, it would have been a lot more "miss". The classrooms are small due to lack of enrollment. We definitely do not recommend it beyond kindergarten. We should have left when we had the chance!

Prince William Academy is amazing! My daughter attended the preschool and is now in the elementary school. The teachers are outstanding, loving, and great at working with each child individually within a small classroom environment. The school's new principal is a treasure, and has implemented a focus on technology that the school lacked before, and that I'm happy to see. My daughter has been taking Spanish for years at PWA, and Arabic, and I love the importance given to foreign languages there. The school doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles or extracurriculars, especially compared to some of the other (mainly religious) private schools in the area. But it is clear that providing the very best academic environment for the children and helping them succeed is the first and foremost priority. And that is why I plan to keep my daughter there all the way through middle school!

My son is going on 2 years at PWA. He started off during the summer of 2012, with the 3 year olds. He is now going on into the PRE-K class. I absolutely love this school. I have never seen any treatment remotely close to what a reviewer below stated. When I compared my sons school supply list to my neighbors kindergartener, they were almost identical. The one major difference was that my son needs a laptop. When I went in for a tour, it looks like they use it one or two times a week. My son will be borrowing my laptop. He has learned so much. He is 4 and can write letters, knows his numbers (1-100), shows interest in things he learned during science. It s incredible how much these kids can learn. He cries on the weekends because there is no school. During the summer, they have such fun activities and all this is year round! I love that he loves it and I am very grateful for the school. Improvements I would make: any extra activities (soccer, dance, etc) should ALL be afterschool vs during school. And prices are a bit high

My daughter attend kindergarten here. While everyone talks about how wonderful Ms. Saira is (and she is) Ms. A is an unspoken treasure. We could not have asked for a better teacher. My daughter is finishing the year reading at a first grade level and completing math at a third grade level. Ms. A works with each child on an individual level and as my daughter says "she never gives hard work". She sets her students up for success. She makes the students understand that they can do anything regardless of what obstacles might be ahead. My daughter loves to learn and becomes upset when she has to miss school for any reason. Keep up the great work Ms. A.

PWA curricula is very good, there are great teachers, small classes. However, this school has been going down due to owner's direction. Very small staff to manage the whole school: 2 front office staff that has to do almost everything. They work in different hours. It is a bit scary security in the school, of how they control kids in the hall and the back door entrance. The school is pretty disorganized and not consistent. They never publish the annual financial statement there is no transparency. Nobody knows how the high tuitions are used for. There is no computer lab and the teachers have no clue how to get connected, but you still need to buy a lap top for your child. The head of the PTA is a front office staff and she is also the treasure. All she wants are volunteers so she saves money so they don t need to contract more staff. This year lots of people are leaving the school. And there will be more people leaving if the first grade teacher leaves. One just hopes that the owner is honest to let the parents know in advance if that happens and not wait until the first day of school. The owner needs to step out and let a consulting company help before is too late!!!!
