Being a military family, we don't get the luxury of feeling at home for very long in any place we live - and I can say after 5 months being a family at this school I feel as though I have been lucky enough to join this little family while we are here in VA.

When it came time to choose a Kindergarten for our 5 year old after only living here for 2 months I found CHOT and met with the Director, Rose Marie, and toured the school with my son. I was immediately ready to sign him up and commute the almost 35 minutes each day/one way just so he could attend. This place is incredible. Rose Marie and her staff of Certified Montessori Teachers have the perfect balance of free exploration and boundaries. I love everything Montessori has to offer but still would like my son to learn things like table manners, respect, responsibility for himself, etc and CHOT delivers. He comes home happy (and exhausted from all the play! They are outside as much as they can be!), with super interesting things to share about his day and is eager every morning to go back. After the first week of Kinder, he was reading! Dropping my son off for those first weeks was really difficult as we did Homeschool Preschool but seeing the genuine love that the teachers have for their students makes it so much easier. The children are truly THEIR children when they are in their care. This little jewel of a school settled on the Rappahannock River is a treasure and I wish every child could have the experience of Early Childhood Education at CHOT. I wish that they would teach 1st grade because finding another school next year that even comes close to CHOT is going to be a tough job!

I cannot express how disappointed I was with this school. I read extensively about Montessori and toured several schools (here and Northern Virginia). I settled on CHOT because it seemed to embody what I wanted for my child, but I was completely wrong. There was nothing open or self guiding about this school, it was run extremely strict, being a graduate from a catholic school I didnt want that kid of strict environment for my children, it was exactly what we got. I thought the teachers were cold and when speaking to another parent they referred to a specific teacher as a "cold fish" but followed with she is perfect for my child. She was not perfect for my child, I wanted my three year old around warm caring and sensitive teachers. I pulled my son and moved to Fredericksburg Cooperative Preschool and LOVED it! Cannot recommend Fredericksburg Cooperative Preschool enough - warm, parent involvement, kind and teaching discipline (instead of punitive).

A wonderful program, with dedicated professional Montessori instructors. My daughter is thriving at this school, and I don't have enough nice things to say about the classroom, the curriculum, the teachers, the parents or the location. It is an all-around 5-star school.
