Early Years Montessori School

Early Years Montessori is a wonderful school. My third child is starting there, and he will be attending with the siblings of many children who attended with my older kids. There is a reason why parents return to this school. As other reviewers have noted, the school is in a basement-- but there are plenty of large windows, it is brightly decorated, and the kids go outside at least twice a day (weather permitting). The teachers are all very loving. The director, Mrs. B., loves children and cares for the students as if they were her own. I have spent a lot of time at this school over the years and can say unequivocally that I absolutely cannot imagine any of the teachers shouting, as one reviewer claimed below. They are so focused on creating a peaceful environment for the children--they even do yoga! Ms. Samjhana, who is the head teacher for the oldest group, has been there for many years. She is an excellent instructor and my older children were extremely well prepared for elementary school. (One even skipped kindergarten.) The school has a particularly strong science program, and brings in outside instructors for music and gym. They have several music programs throughout the year as well as a science fair that allows the kids to show what they have learned. In the Montessori tradition, Early Years teaches children practical life skills and (best of all!) to clean up after themselves. The school also does a wonderful job exposing children to different cultures. I would highly recommend this school if you are looking for a caring environment for your child to grow.

This school has caring and qualified teachers; within three months of attending this school, my two children, a two year old and a four year old, showed remarkable progress in reading and cognizant skills; the Montessori curriculum is very effective.

I don't think that the school should have existed at the first place. The tuition is lowest in the area and that explains something, right? However, that is the only thing they can offer. At least that was our incentives to try this school despite a dull/darkish environment. The play-garden is unsafe and ill-maintained. The director only knows complaining and gossiping. The teachers are not trained at all and barely follow the montessori-philosophy.
Through this post, I am trying to save you from the disservice you will do to your child sending him/her to this school.

If the teachers and the director discriminate between students of age 2.5 yrs and gossip about the abilities and shortcomings of students in front of them .. guess what qualities you are expecting in your kids.

My two kids went to this school and my husband and I were very pleased. The teachers are friendly and kind to everyone. The tuition fee is very reasonable and the school is open all year around. The director has many years of experience. I recommend this school to any family with young children.

In our view the best preschool in the area for the price. Our twin boys spent 3 years there beginning at age 1.5. The teachers are very warm and nurturing. Parent population is great. Our kids made friends and learned socialization skills, had an enriching academic experience, and enjoyed their time there.

Both my son and daughter attended Early Years Montessori School. This was the first preschool I toured when we moved to the area in 2010 and was impressed with the sense of calm in the classrooms. The teachers actively engaged the children and there was no chaos. Almost six years later, this still remains true. The environment is fun and nurturing. My children thrived at this school When my son entered Kindergarten in Fairfax County, he was by far one of the strongest students. This is in large part due to the scholastic preparation he received at Early Years Montessori. My daughter is on the same path as a current Early Years Montessori student. The program has several daytime options (hours of 9-12, 9-3 and 7-6) and is open year round unlike many other preschools in this area. I strongly recommend this preschool if you are in the Falls Church area.

Early Years is a nurturing, enriching, safe, and gentle place for children to unlock their potential. My two children have attended Early Years for 3+ years, and they have both blossomed. My oldest child, a boy, is a typically “over-active” child who now gets in trouble in public school. At Early Years, they knew how to work with him to help him be calm, make friends, and learn. I was impressed at how the Director and teachers recognized needs and desires and adapted the curriculum to benefit the children. For instance, midway through my son’s tenure, they added weekly science and STEM to the curriculum. My son definitely loved and benefited from these hands-on activities and my daughter races home on Mondays with the take-home sheet, wanting to continue the experiments. My younger daughter watched her brother go to school every day and desperately wanted to join him. She started at Early Years as soon as she turned 2. She was too shy to go into the younger children’s classroom on her own, so she started off with her brother in the big kid’s room. The Director and teachers developed a Transition Plan for her and within a couple of weeks she was happily in the appropriate room. When my daughter started she was hardly speaking, and I had been advised to seek developmental help and speech therapy for her. Within a few weeks of starting Early Years, she let out her inner chatterbox and we could all see and finally hear her natural intelligence. That’s what Early Years does – it creates a safe and nurturing environment where children can be their best, where they receive gentle encouragement, and where learning and developing emotionally are fun. The Director gives the children real love and kindness, and staffs her school with teachers who are also gentle, safely firm, and loving. The music specialist who comes once a week is also enthusiastic and entertaining! I definitely recommend enrolling your child in Early Years Montessori School.

Both my sons graduated from Early Years Montessori School this summer. I am impressed with their prekindergarten knowledge on subjects. The teachers are very caring and kind and the school is located in a safe five acre campus with easy access unlike other preschools in the area. I recommend this school highly.

Both my sons just completed three years at Early Years Montessori School. My husband and I are very impressed with the development of their cognitive and intellectual abilities of both my sons. The teachers are very kind and caring and most importantly, the school is located in a safe five acre campus unlike the other preschools in the area. I recommend this school very highly.

My daughter just finished attending Early Years and was incredibly happy there. She learned a lot, is well prepared for kindergarten, and adored her teachers. I plan to send my younger daughter there when she is old enough.

This is a 'day care' - 'Montessori' is just the name. there is high staff turnover - good teachers have left! Other teachers do not have Montessori teaching background. I have also seen teachers completing the impressive craft work that children bring home. This is not our child's work - it is completed by teachers. the director is very very impolite - I agree on other reviews posited regarding the directors behavior and unprofessionalism.

The school is not clean and does not provide hygienic environment. The hallways stink. The bathroom and potty smells through the hallways and corridors. The basement has no air circulation, ventilation or exhaust system. My child fell sick every other day - so I withdrew my child.

This School is disaster. It is very unhealthy and unclean as you can see ants and spiders inside the school. Mrs. B, the director of the school is very rude. She is not professional at all and is always ready to argue with the parents. Once you enroll your kids she will not excuse a single penny no matter what. She is very mean and selfish and lack behind creating a good relationship with the parents. Rest of the teachers are really good and take a good care of the kids. I would not recommend any parents to enroll their kids.

My child is in the classroom for the oldest students and leaves after lunch (some of the other kids stay longer). My child loves it! Loves learning and has learned a lot of math and pre-reading skills (can even read some words already). The lead teacher is really great. The other teacher can seem a little cold at times (I think she is the assistant, and I think she's the one that runs the program after lunch, but I'm not sure). The school is not new and the supplies are old, but that doesn't bother me at all (but if you want to brand new school, do not come here). The price is much less than other Montessori Schools in the area. I would definitely recommend the older kids classroom (I don't know anything about the other classrooms).

My daughter is in her second year at early years Montessori school. I highly recommend this school as my daughter has developed very well. The teachers are excellent. They are very caring and attentive to the individual child s needs. The curriculum is stimulating and adapts to the growing needs of each child. Most of the teachers sent their kids to the same school. The director has 30+ years as a Montessori school teacher. She is very caring, listens and attends to the growth and development of each child. My daughter loves the school and especially her teachers.

This is a terrible school. We are happily at another Montessori. There is a reason that this is the most inexpensive Montessori in the area. The directress is disorganized, unprofessional, defensive. She has horrible judgment in hiring teacher assistants there. I don't feel comfortable commenting on parental involvement because we only attended the summer program and not for long....we were outta there. Please google other Montessori's in the Northern VA, Springfield or Annandale area before going to this school. Any one of them is better than this one.

With all off the excellent school choices in the area, Early Years should be your absolute last resort. The fact that it's housed in a cold basement should be the first indication that something isn't right. The turn-over rate of the teachers is absolutely ridiculous. My son would have a new teacher each week. Save your money and check out the accredited Montessori school around the corner.

My son attended Early Years Montessori School for the year that he was four years old, and I believe he received a great education. He learned a great deal, and the teachers gave him room to follow his passion for marine biology and wildlife while ensuring that he had a solid foundation in writing, reading, phonics, math, science, and Spanish. The teachers are very caring, nurturing, and knowledgeable, and they are very frank and forthcoming with information about my son's academic progress and areas for growth, interests, and behavior. I appreciate the school, and I feel that my son is off to a great start at kindergarten. I recommend this school!

First, from the other reviews (e.g. if you do a Google search) this school is getting a completely undeserved bad rap because of a few people who may not have had great experiences. I believe I even know who a few of them are. My family and I had a very different, very positive experience with this school, and will likely send our second daughter there as well. First, one thing that can be said is that the school could use a few new toys. That said, we really liked the program and teachers. The youngest class is really more play than learning, but these are 2-3 year old kids...you can only structure the day so much for them. In the 3-4 year old class the kids are doing much more advanced things, and the room is chock full of skill-building toys and tools, all the classic Montessori objects you'd expect. In the oldest class there's a computer and more advanced things, as well as lots of books. Though "your mileage may vary", my daughter left this school reading on her own, comfortable performing in front of an audience (they have a good music program), and very artistic. She really blossomed there. The teachers do turn over a little more than ideal...hopefully that can be fixed.

This school is very dirty. When i visited the school the first thing i noticed was the smell of the bathroom. The director was not available that afternoon. I noticed the classrooms do not have the necessary montessori materials. My daughter attended a really good montessori school out of town so i am familiar with the program. This school obviously does not have it. This school is more likea day care center than a montessori school.

This is a great school my children are learning so much. The staff is caring and well educated. They are always ready to help and provide the information and support needed when asked. I have to try to match their activities at home on weekends so my children dont get board!!! I would recommend this school to anyone looking for a good learning spot for their little one. I feel safe after dropping them in the morning.

Fantastic School! My daughter attended the school when she was two....Now she is three and can't believe how much she learned so far... She really loves going to school, being around her friends and her WONDERFUL teachers. The principal of the school is such an amazing person,she is wonderful to deal with and loves the little ones a lot ,her teachers admire her leadership and generosity . i highly recomend the school ,wouldnt pick any other school for my kids.

All of my kids have been at this school since 2001. My 3rd is currently in her 2nd year and not only does she love it, our entire family loves it. My older kids had an amazing experience here and love to come back and visit their teachers. Their last year really prepared them for full day kindergarten and even gave them an advantage. There is little staff turnover, it is comforting to see a familiar face from year to year. Some teachers have taught all 3 of my children. The school is clean, the curriculum is stimulating and adapts to the evolving needs of each individual child. It is a happy place, the kids are smiling and the teachers are smiling. The teachers are attentive, supportive, engaging, warm and caring. Communication with teachers, the director and myself is very open and I am always informed. I know that I can count on the staff to address and consider our needs. My youngest still has one year left at the school and we will be sad when it is time for her to "graduate". It will be like leaving family but we know that she will have all the tools needed to hit the ground running in kindergarten. I happily and enthusiastically recommend this school.

This school is not accredited and it shows. It is one of the least expensive Montessori schools in the area, and unfortunately there is a reason. We attended this school site unseen, as we arrived from out of town. We do, however, have experience with Montessori schools, as our child attended a great one in our previous city. This school seems much more like a below average daycare center instead of a pre-school. After the primary teacher quit we decided to withdraw our child. Too many things, not mentioned here, have happened at this school that have led us to believe that it is not a healthy environment for our child. Once we decided to withdraw, we felt it necessary NOT to inform the director in front of our child, as we were given reason to believe that she would defame us in front of our child. Having removed our child from this school, we still feel very happy with our decision.
