My experience with this school started out decent? I had high hopes for this school but over time they are showing true colors. It has been a huge let down unfortunately. The entire time my child has been there they have learned new skills and gained some knowledge but they have also been held back in a way because of how the school is run and the lack of educational support. The bullying that happens by some of the kids is uncalled for, I’ve dealt with it myself through my child. To have them be worried to speak up when a fellow student is being horrible to them because the teacher did not do anything and made my child feel bad for speaking up is uncalled for.

I love this school! From the staff to the curriculum. I have 4 kids that attend here and to see them learn, grow and be in an environment that is Christ centered and is reinforcing what is being taught at home. I love the atmosphere of love, creativity and given the children an opportunity to learn Montessori style. It is an added bonus that the school has a transition class (2-3 year old) to 12 grade. I definitely recommend this school!

What a fantastic school! Long-term family (9 years and counting) We have two students in high school and one that graduated from Lighthouse and has had nothing but a stellar experience. Our oldest repeatedly says that he's not only head and shoulders above his college classmates but is far more prepared for the college experience. The school gave him the tools to think critically, stay organized and be a true self-starter, all skills we could only have dreamed for. The teachers are extremely knowledgeable, infinitely caring, and personally invested in each of their students. My wife and I highly recommend this school.

The school emphasizes trust and respect. It is a very loving place and I have two children that attend. We've tried different public and private schools. There are benefits to each but the biggest thing was that my kids didn't feel the stress of fitting in or being bullied. The academics are good but the real focus is on keeping the school happy and destressed.

I have two children that attend Lighthouse Academy of Fredericksburg, a 4th grader and a 1st grader. I am so glad that my husband and I decided to bring out children to this school. They have both blossomed so much in their academics. I also love how they are more independent than they used to be in the public school setting. They both have a lot more confidence in their academic and non academic tasks. Lighthouse Academy is also very much student centered and I love that, because they find out the best way to teach the students here. I am very excited to see how far they can go in their academic career at Lighthouse Academy. I would recommend this school to anyone.

Lighthouse Academy of Fredericksburg has been a perfect fit for my Adolescent students. The teachers and staff have always shown love, guidance and concern for the many circumstances our teens have encountered. In addition to a strong academic program, my students have, throughout the years, enjoyed the sports program along with fun and creative electives. The atmosphere with both staff and peers is more like family, where they have learned both responsibility and accountability!

I have 4 children that attend LAF. We started with putting our oldest when she was in 4th grade in 2017. I had to pull her out of 3rd grade public school because it was just not working. The public school system expects everyone to learn the same way. When we came to Lighthouse within 3 months my daughter was excited to come to school and eager to learn. She was able to learn and process the way her brain learns and processes. Two years later the other 3 started attending. When we started at Lighthouse not only did we get the best education for our children we gained a family. The staff at LAF love each of the students as if they were there own. They learn the child as an individual and teach them the way their brain needs. They are also taught every day life skills. It is so nice to be able to have all my children be able to go to the same school. They have the same teachers for 3 years and then when they move up the the staff communicate with one another on how the student learns and what they need. All of my children learn and process information differently and LAF is able to accommodate for that. My children love coming to school and love learning. It was one of the best decisions we made to send our children to Lighthouse Academy. Class of 2024, Class of 2027, Class of 2029, Class of 2030!!!! We love our Lighthouse FAMILY!!!!

We have two daughter's (8th and 10th graders) who attend Lighthouse and we could not be more pleased and appreciative of the love, care, and academic excellence that our girls receive in the adolescent program. Our youngest started in the upper elementary program and immediately thrived. She is someone who needs to apply what she is learning by using her hands and working with her peers. Coming from a traditional public school environment, she loved the freedom of learning in a way that suited her style and the ability to choose how she wanted to learn. Our oldest started at Lighthouse last year as a 9th grader and she quickly learned how to manage her time, think critically, and collaborate with her peers. She feels accepted here and she loves the weekly field trips meant to connect her learning to the world she lives in. We are so appreciative of the time and love the faculty pours into our girls.

Lighthouse Academy accepts and loves every child right where there are. It has been an amazing experience to work at Lighthouse. My life has been so highly enriched by watching the teachers work so hard to make very child successful. I have seen children who hated school finally embrace a love to learn. Our program is entirely hands on and activity based. No textbooks. Lighthouse Academy is fully accredited and employs extremely high caliber teachers and professionals. Please visit the school's website and schedule a tour. You will not be disappointed.

My son has done amazing the last 2 years being at Lighthouse. There is an adjustment period to the Montessori approach. However, it is well worth it! Every child would want to learn like this and be in a school environment that feels like family with amazing educational opportunities that traditional schools do not offer. They foster kindness, community involvement (w/monthly field trips), and adjust the teaching to fit what the child needs. I have recommended this school to other families and their children are thriving as well. No bullying, small classrooms, individual attention, and teaching of Christian values which is role modeled by all the staff. They also give scholarships to those that could otherwise not afford to the cost of tuition. During COVID, they did not close. Our son learned everything he needed to for the year, and they went above and beyond to keep the children safe. My son wants to stay until he graduates.

When we expressed concern to the Lower Elementary Head Teacher and Owner of the School that our daughter in her first grade class was not learning to read, we were told that she must have a learning disability. We had her evaluated and no disability was found. We then discovered that this teacher/owner was actually leaving the classroom on a regular basis to go work out at the gym, and having the school’s Office Manager (who has absolutely no experience or training) give our daughter lessons. When we expressed disapproval over this, we were met with anger. Furthermore, we immediately put our daughter in private tutoring and she was reading within a few weeks. This is just one example out of many that led us to conclude that Lighthouse Academy is not what it pretends to be.

The only good thing about this school is the musical worship, which teaches students to worship through the love of music.

Posted: May 18, 2019

We had a miserable experience at this school and cannot in good faith recommend it to anyone. We feel we were misled by the school’s website and things that were said during our tour into believing that it is an academically-focused, Montessori-method school. After two years in both lower and upper elementary classes, this was not our experience at all. In fact, we found the academics here to be sorely lacking, with very few materials or resources, limited instruction time for students, a curriculum that does not resemble the one posted on their website), no record-keeping or progress reports, and minimal communication with parents. After vocalizing our very real, very justified concerns, we felt mistreated and vilified by most of the administration We found the owners, teachers, and administrative staff to be immature, unprofessional, and disinterested in improving what is a poorly run operation. We finally had no recourse but to pull our children out and homeschool them for the remainder of the year.

No one at this school is properly trained to identify or address learning disabilities. Our daughter was mislabeled as learning disabled when all she needed was someone to take the time to teach her something. As soon as we set her up with a private tutor, she soared. We feel that this school uses the label of a disability as an excuse to neglect giving students the instruction and attention they need.

We are filled with regret that we did not do our due diligence and better research whether this school has the proper accreditation and teacher-credentials to deliver what they promote. The truth is that Lighthouse Academy has no accreditation whatsoever, not through the American Montessori Society, not through the Virginia Council for Private Education, and not through the National Council for Private School Accreditation. They operate as a for-profit business and therefore are not monitored or regulated by any governing agency, board of directors, or department of education. We feel they are exploiting the Montessori reputation in order to charge higher tuition rates, while in the classroom, a true Montessori method is used sparingly if at all. Furthermore, only a handful of the teachers here even have a college degree.

There is minimal homework here. In the Lower Elementary class, what did come home came with no instructions or explanation. When we asked questions, we were treated like a nuisance. The homework is never checked or sent back with comments, corrections, etc. It seems to be a gesture at most. In fact, i observed a staff member complain to the Lower Elementary Head Teacher and Owner of the school about a parent asking for more homework. They both rolled their eyes about it. Shameful.

My child has been a Montessori student since age 3. If you are not willing to invest and buy into independent learning and preparing your child for a college environment then this will not work for you. My child has multiple academic scholarships for her college of choice after being accepted everywhere she applied and is a very independent thinker and strong leader. She has learned wonderful things at LAF.

Do not send your children. My daughter will never be the same. Her confidence was diminished because of the lower elementary teacher/owner of the school. My son was treated terrible as well. Both of children suffered a great deal of stress and we are still trying to overcome the damage that was done.

Posted: January 5, 2019

There is no communication at this school between the students and teachers and especially none with the parents.

Posted: January 5, 2019

Some of the teacher's are good. However, a few teacher's are terrible and really hurt this school. Some don't even have the right degree to be teaching. The school is not accredited.

Posted: January 5, 2019

The administrator and a few teachers really disrespect the students.

Posted: January 5, 2019

There is no leadership here, everything is left up to the child.

Posted: January 5, 2019

They will make your child feel inadequate if they have any issues.

Posted: January 5, 2019

There is total lack of communication so nothing is effective.

Posted: November 8, 2018

There is homework. It is not part of the Montessori system.

Posted: November 8, 2018

The teachers at this school do not do their job well. Children are mostly given busy work with little correction and very few lessons. There is not much learning occurring.

Posted: November 8, 2018

The students do not respect each other or the classroom.

Posted: November 8, 2018

Communication is very poor at this school.

Posted: November 8, 2018

Students with learning differences are given busy work to keep them distracted.

Posted: November 8, 2018

Posted: November 8, 2018

Do not enroll your child at this school if you want them to be able to read, write, and do math. They will not learn in this chaotic enviorment. Enroll in a different Montessori school. There is not much of an emphasis on academics here.

We love the adolescent program (7th-12th grade) offered at Lighthouse Academy! Honestly, it's all about the teachers and their positive energy and zest for life. We wanted our child surrounded by positive role models, loving teachers and challenging learning environments - a tall order in most public and even other private schools - but Lighthouse has it all! This is such a unique and close-knit community, yet it accepts newcomers with open arms. I highly recommend visiting. You will be glad you did!

The Lighthouse Academy is an excellent school. I have been impressed with the quality of the owners and staff. The teachers teach well, using a lot of hands on, and real life experiences. Learning is individualized, so that each child can progress asthe can. My children have been loved and cared for, as well as educated. Their spiritual lives have grown as the word of God was expressed. This school is a huge benefit to the community and a huge blessing to our family.

Posted: August 8, 2013

I have been teaching at the school for many years and love it so much. The owners are amazing, the families are incredibly supportive and the teachers are are real team. This has been the best experience of my life and I would not trade it for anything. The curriculum is top notch and the new high school program is really taking off. It is so amazing to see all of the happy students, even the older ones. Many of the students have been in the school for years and years. Most of the teachers have also been teaching the school for many years. It is just a great school. Please come and see for yourself why the school is the best.

Nice people, some teachers do not have formal education or cerification, at least not we were there. Teachers aides the same. Poor management and organization. Very confusing for students and parents much of the time. We had 2 children there. Disappointed. :-(
