We have been thrilled with Belle View Elementary for our daughter. We are a military family and moved to the area as she was beginning second grade. She made friends quickly and has always been supported well by staff and teachers. Now in third grade she has had the opportunity to be part of advanced academics, student council, and other school programs. We have loved the family engagement and the activities run by the PTA as well as the school. I feel that the school is very safe, the staff are incredibly warm, and my daughter is honestly thriving.

We couldn’t be happier with our daughter’s experience at Belle View! All her teachers are wonderful and dedicated. The school building is so bright, clean and well organized. And one of my favorite things is that class sizes are small (especially compared to our surrounding public and private schools).

I am a former student at Belle View, and I had my good and bad moments with certain teachers. But overall I had a pretty good exprince especially at the end of 6th grade. They had a great time for 6th grade and we were all a family. There's ups and downs to every school and this one had a lot of ups!

I will never undestand why this school continues to get such low scores, as they do not reflect what a good, sweet elementary school this is. My son is in 1st grade and runs to the bus top every day, happy and excited to go to school. His teachers have been kind, patient, very respectful to their students, and willing to communicate with us any time. Principal Kuntz is kind and makes it a point to learn every student's name and greet them with a friendly smile every morning. We appreciate the economic, neurodevelopmental and ethnic diversity at Belle View Elementary and see it was a real benefit to our son's emotional growth and larger life perspective. We're also happy that they Advanced Academic Program is now part of Belle View's offerings instead of kids having to move to another school to partcipate. The actual school building, classrooms and outside play areas are also very nice.

I would strongly recommend all neighboring families to tour the school and talk to other parents rather than basing their choice on these scores alone. They do not paint an accurate or full picture.

Are son has been going to BV from Kindergarten and is now in the 4th grade. We have had nothing but great experiences here, the teachers are experienced and communicative. Because of the stupid to Great Schools scoring system its less attractive to incoming parents to the area which we dont mind because it keeps the student to teacher ratio low, (21 kids in our class)!

The most insidious force destroying public education in this country is the misuse of quantitative data-- and behind this misuse is over-reliance and over-application of test score data without regards to demographic and background information that can't be factored in.
Belle View is a great example of garbage data. This is a school that is pretty well balanced for the area, tilting more towards middle-class, normally-privileged student; however, there are low-income students and BVES is a magnet in the area for HELPING students w/severe disabilities. It is a great balance that really works well for most students and, for the most part, avoids a common problem, which is teaching to get a certain percentage of the class to pass Reading and Math SOLs, at the cost of creativity and individual progress. If I were a well-off parent, I'd be happy with this school. It is a good cross-section of the area, but offers top-notch teachers, and FCPS has a solid program of studies for all grades (thoughtful projects). If I were a lower-income parent, I'd move to the area to get my kid in this school. I am a middle-class parent (and Title 1 school teacher elsewhere) and I am very happy with this school. Don't rely on this site. Go in and take a tour.

WONDEFUL! This is a gem of a school...that 3 rating in no way reflects the students, teachers, and community!

Posted: May 9, 2018

Reading nightly is their focus--Choices boards for homework activities for upper grades, emphasis on getting outside, spending time with family and reading together.

AMAZING teachers...they love my child and psuh her to be successful!

Mrs. Pluntke and Mr. Kuntz run a very effective school...they communicate well and are always willing to chat, give a tour, etc.

Posted: May 9, 2018

Students get to engage with students who have special needs--it takes away the stigma.

Belle View is a small, intimate, and sweet neighborhood school, with top-notch teachers and where the staff and administration truly know the students. The diversity of the student population is an absolute strength of the school and we couldn't feel more fortunate to be a Bobcat family.

After two years at BV we couldn't be happier, the teachers are great and staff helpful and responsive. Looking forward to 2nd grade!

I love this school and my children have thrived in the environment! I cannot believe that GS has given BVES a rating of 4 out of 10. It is a wonderful school with wonderful families, teachers and staff.

This is a full-service school. It has programs and teachers prepared to provide instruction in a variety of ways to a diverse student body. Inherent to this model is the idea of tolerance and acceptance of all different types of learners. All are welcome and all are respected. The parental involvement is stellar, creating what feels like a real community ( a village, if you will) of parents and teachers working together. It is a school of caring, involved people.

Teachers are encouraging and friendly. This school doesn't pressure kids which is great, I think. The mood is encouraging and supportive. There is a garden for growing vegetables and an 'outdoor classroom' curriculum. My child is in SACC here and those teachers are great too.

Some teachers are good but I have not been happy with how the Principal, his staff and some long tenured teachers or counselors handle discipline. I find their approach accusatory towards the parents, defensive when asked to provide information or evidence and plainly inadequately prepared to deal with the new generation of children who are highly active and eager to move around and about. I would like to point out also that there has been a significant increase in hispanic attendance this year at this school.

Elementary schools are very much a human thing, the culture, values, and attention a school places in its students is a result of the principle setting the direction and engagement, the teachers, and the parents. Both my son's are pupil placed at Belle View because of the strength of their Autism Program. Having my children in other schools within Fairfax County I can say that one of the things that makes Belle View so wonderful is the atmosphere set by the Principal. He is engaged in the culture of the school, in the teachers, and with the PTA. He is always responsive to student and parent needs. From what I can tell he is also responsive to teachers' needs as much as resources allow him to be. The school culture focuses on respect through-out the entire spectrum and this is a huge benefit to those students in the Autism and Learning Disabled programs. Is it perfect; no. Have we had some problems; some. But the fact that we can work with teachers and principal to resolve them and everyone in engaged in the student's well being makes it a great school. It is the only school I've seen where parents, teachers, and principal really do all work together -- for the students!
