As a parent of a special needs child Franklin Sherman has been a great experience thus far. We are impressed with the principals ideas, family engagement opportunities, special programming for language speech therapy and the list goes on. Its a small school and has great teachers. I recommend!

If your child does not have an IEP, this is a good school. If your child has any issues at all or is on an IEP, do not attend this school. There is no support for sp ed students who are not cookie cutter (clearly only one learning disorder diagnosed, etc). Also, small town politics run the discipline, PTA, and room parents. So if your kid is not a perfectionist and doesnt fit in, it is a terrible experience. Some teachers are supportive.

Great school overall. The school has a strong PTA and parental involvement. School has a no homework policy which makes it difficult for them to get in the habit and routine of doing homework as they get older.

Franklin Sherman Elementary School is a small, public elementary school in McLean, VA. The schools population is very diverse. We have gone here for a couple of years and love it. The school gives minimal homework until the upper grades. School gets out later in the afternoon. Teachers have been very responsive to feedback. Many of the specials teachers (like Spanish and Library Science) know all of the students by name and greet them by name. I highly disagree with the comment about bullying at our school. We did not see a student like the one described in the negative review at our school last year. Not sure what happened. In our experience, the leadership handles issues with poor behavior. They have helped us when weve had issues and they have called home and worked with us when we were the issue. They are very proactive. PTA has also done a great job.

Excellent! It is a terrific, small school (only a little over 400 students). Teachers and staff know almost all of the students by name. School is so welcoming!

The administtation is so friendly ...and they really care about their students ...they have an active PTA ...and since i am middle eastern i did not feel that i am not welcomed ..instead...this school is open to the multiculture in the area ....and really are supportive .

Franklin Sherman is one of the smallest public schools in the area. It has a very active PTA and a good community around it. It would benefit, however, by improving the manners of the adminsitrative personnel. Some of them are hostile to say the least and even worse if your first language is not English.

Great little school. I feel like my child is getting an excellent education there. Test scores are always high. It has a very active PTA and a lot of parent involvement. McLean has a lot of parents who are professionals and were high academic achievers themselves so school is a high priority for most parents here. The teachers my child has had have all been excellent and very dedicated. It seems like there's been a lot of teacher turnover in the last couple years, and some really amazing veteran teachers have left. There are usually 2 classes of each grade, but the school is small so they sometimes have to have split classes when there are not enough kids to fill two classes of a grade. That means they might have one class that is half 3rd graders and half 4th graders in the same classroom with one teacher covering both grades, along with one 3rd grade only class and one 4th grade only class. This works fine for some kids but is unsuitable for others, so there are some parents who do not like the split classes.
