As a parent, I have found that navigating the bureaucracy of this school absolutely exhausting. They talk the game of caring assistance, however, when it comes down to anything there is no follow-up, no support, and a shameful overall distrust of their students. It is a disheartening experience as an adult, I can only imagine as a student.

Patriot High school has its strengths and weaknesses. I am a recent graduate of this school. They have a good variety of programs for students of different levels and I felt prepared to do well in college-level courses. However, Patriot could use a lot of improvement. It is very overcrowded to the point where people are breathing on each other in the halls while walking to class. Because it was so large and crowded, it was extremely difficult to make it to class in time without getting the chance to use the restroom. One time I had to use the restroom so bad before class I arrived 23 seconds late and the teacher slammed the door in my face. Unfortunately, a handful of students were extremely disrespectful and rude to teachers, staff, and other students around them. I was always one to stay more to myself while in school and sit back and observe the behaviors going on around me. I felt that I was often in a negative environment. Many students were very careless and put little effort into things. They were usually found hanging out in the bathrooms getting into trouble. I also really wish they had more dining options for those with allergies...AKA SALAD :). The administration was also very disorganized and unhelpful. They were always roaming the halls on segways and taking away people's phones and earbuds in the halls during the class transition and mostly during our lunch break. It was frustrating because a couple of times I needed to text my mother about some important matters ON MY LUNCH BREAK and I got yelled at to put my phone away. A good chunk of my teachers were wonderful and really loved their job while others used to complain about being at work and scrolled though their social media feed during class. Many teachers were buddy-buddy with select students while they made others feel uneasy. I wish the administration had done something about it I can only hope for the best now... It has been a while so my hope is that they have improved in these areas.

As a recent graduate I would say that the most accurate description of Patriot would be a beautiful building with a subpar interior. There is very little "leadership" from administration and when there is it only really seems to be to drum of school spirit, rather than address the numerous problems including severe overcrowding, rampant drug use, and the struggling of minority students. Of course it is certainly possible to thrive here if you are highly motivated, but unfortunately most of the school population isn't and the administration does nothing to address it. It is very easy for even a bright student to slip through the cracks. As a very well funded school, however, it does have some amazing specialty programs that have personally changed my life and the lives of many other students which I have to admire. Ultimately, this school as so much potential, but unfortunately much of it is wasted. Overall, I would rate my education as average. Many of the problems I admit can only really be solved through relieving the overcrowding which will hopefully occur soon.

Overall, Patriot is a great school. Many of the rules here go back to “old school” which many students dislike but parents embrace. Teachers are caring. Sports are competitive. Student leadership is excellent

Teachers are excellent. Lots of club and sports opportunities to be involved. Supportive administration. My daughter is having an excellent experience.

Contrary to many perceived notions about Patriot, this school is very diverse. Each lunch table is a wonderful mix of ethnicities. The teachers are dedicated to their students. There are many AP class offerings that prepare students for college. Sports are competitive.

The homework at this school is honestly too much. Teachers here don't really take into account that you have other classes because a lot of them assign a lot of homework. I am not even in all AP classes and I spend over 4-5 hours on homework each night! Sometimes they give us homework packets of over 20 questions to do each night and sometimes they don't even teach the content in the packet. Some of it is useful like English homework or something you didn't finish in class.

The math department SUCKS. I used to want to be a mathematics major before I went here but I can't even stand looking at an equation here!!! The teachers are boing and lackadaisical and rely on homework to teach you. The only reason I didn't fail is that I went home to look it up. Even my tutor didn't understand why I was taught this way!! I am also in a standard class and the teacher is ahead of the AP class for the same subject!! She is too fast-paced and no one really understands. One year I had a friend take her class and she failed. She was a hardworking girl and the only reason she failed is because she didn't have an absent note. She was sick and the teacher did not allow her to take the test so she had 5 F's in her grade and failed!!

I honestly don't know. Students seem to make fun of kids who don't get it, which, I guess, is expected, but, teachers do it too! I don't care if it's as a "joke". Humiliation is not a joke! It's gotten so bad that I am too afraid to even ask the teachers questions.

Students are spoon-fed the answers. Their homework is worksheets to find the answers to test questions. Then in class the teachers give them the answers. My daughter received a shallow education from this school.

There are some good, caring, & dedicated teachers. However, my student had an uncaring teacher who showed favoritism. The teacher also gave answers to test questions, during the tests, so class grades would appear better than they really were. She did it to save her reputation, not to help the students.

There's bullying in the halls. Students violate the dress code. They violate all the rules in class while teachers do nothing. Students violate rules in the lunchroom in front of teacher monitors. Football players are treated like kings and sexually harass female students publically in the lunchroom.

My student witnessed sexual harassment in the lunchroom on a regular basis in full view of the teacher monitor. She was ridiculed by students for not having an iphone. Students flaunt their families wealth and disparage those who are different. Teachers do nothing.

Awful. This school is another statistic waiting to happen. Faculty and staff do nothing to safeguard equality in this school. There's rampant favoritism to the privileged and next to nothing for those who struggle. The cheating will catch up to them.

My 2 kids have now gone through. Patriot is an average high school - it's adequate, but not exceptionally good. Too crowded for any teacher to connect with students. An impersonal system in which kids are left to fend for themselves. Math instruction is below average. The building is nice and the school does technically serve a function. For these reasons, I'd give Patriot an honest, robust "C" for its efforts.

My child has been a bright student in middle school with all advance classes. She got all A. This freshman year she is stressing with pre AP class because teachers .They aren't explain and really don't care students understanding or not.All students in her class are struggle and upsetting. Counselor are not really care! I hate this school !

I have been a bright student in 8th grade with all my rewards, volunteer hours, and grades. I had some decent teacher in 8th grade. My freshman year was a tragedy. I thought getting a 88 on my test last year was horrible, but when I got some D, and F on my report card in freshman year, that was just insane. I'm an athlete so I typically get home at 6pm, and when there's a thing called Flipped class.. It destroys me. I got my grades up drastically to mainly A, B and only one C+ for the end of the year, that's for me studying until 12 while I skip some of my practices. I'm quitting sports next year and going to have a tutor. Which is ironic because I was a tutor.. I learn differently. This may vary depending on the student, but I need someone to give me a load of homework, teach me, and give me notes that are needed for the summative assignment. Some of the notes given to me are irrelevant. I memorize the notes given word by word, and still get a low grade depending on the subject. I know I'm not the only one because of the class average being horrendous. All my friends are complaining about their teachers. However, with all that negativity towards this topic.. This schools community is very nice. Some teachers are suprising amazing, I met plenty of friends, and the school itself is phenomenal. I just need more luck next year.

Homework helps with the quiz or test going to be given in the future. Also I'm a student who always does their work, so the extra 100% would help me gain some confidence when I take the test or quiz.

I would definitely say the school is over crowded (2800+) Making sports teams is the struggle because of the massive amount of students. This fall will be my 4th year attending and I'm ready to leave. My freshman year my history and math teachers were awful. They pointed to a textbook and informed you about a test the next day. Last year I came across a teacher who actually took her job seriously but there was no structure. I don't know if it's a pwcs thing but lunches are going down the drain. I shouldn't have to wait in line for 60% of my lunch time for mess. Hopefully the kinks are kicked and this school year won't disappoint.

Teachers do not care much about students. Not like in Fairfax County, you will get a phone call from teacher, for example, if your child is suddenly doing poor in school. Teachers really can't make a connection with students or parents, especially math/physic teachers. Don't bother to send them an email because your chance to get a response from them is very low or none

I hate it. I've been attending since freshmen year and I hate most of the people and staff. They are all judgmental, closed-minded people. The education is terrible too. Teachers don't really care about students, only their own image and the same goes to the administators. The grading system is terrible also. Change needs to come immediately. The "voice of freedom" needs to leave.

Seeing people say there is bullying or people being ostrisized for not liking a certain thing here... sounds horrible. I haven't seen that happen, but I have most definitly viewed some brief variations of harassment or disrespect. Honestly, only the students are degrading the school. Disrespecting other people is quite common, and I wish some people would grow up. I have the mentality of a college student, and I feel trapped in a middle school.

I started attending school here during my sophomore year and hated every day of it. First off, the workload was extremely overwhelming. Before I transferred here, I was an A and B average student. Within merely a quarter, my grades had plummeted to C's,D's, and F's.The teachers cared somewhat, but the main problem were the administrators who disregarded the needs of the students. They care about their image more than anything else.I had a foreign teacher who didn't speak English very well, and so I took it up with an administrator. She lectured me for an hour and even lied straight to my face when she said I was the only person who complained. They also impose strict rules to compensate for their lacking education. I couldn't take another year of this school so I decided to graduate early. I skipped my senior year and I am currently taking my second semester at NOVA and I have never regretted that decision.

To start off, this school loves its athletes to the point of almost "babying" them. Most teachers care about the students, but everything is the same and very boring, lecture, worksheet, homework, quiz next class type of everyday schedule for almost every teacher. But the main issue is tests, tests have become 60% of our overall grade and the amount of retakes for these tests have been limited, it nearly seems as the teachers are setting us up to fail. But the real problem of this school is the administrators, it seems as if they act worse then the students they discipline. they are the ones making these rash decisions to the school by putting in teachers who cannot speak English very well or does not know the material to teach, it seems as if the administration is making terrible choices and putting it on the teachers responsible for fixing these problems. overall the school is over crowded (having 2600 kids not 1700) and the test issues are the most problematic in this school, how is a student supposed to do well on a test when they are taught by a teacher who is tired and has already taught the exact class to 2 or 3 other classes, this school sets us up to fail.

i really like this school. my son is a nice boy and I love to dress him nice with classy. Students love this school and I, as a parent, think it is the perfect school for my very nice boy. He is a big fan of redskin, so we go to watch football game and buying hot dog for eat and watch patriot nice football team win the game. My son is so happy he cry and hug these football players. Classes are nice and facility is a perfect one to me. All teachers are nice, except one teacher call my son fat one time and he is so angry all day. I want to fire this teacher for call my son a fat. The guidance counselors are very nice to every one student and never hostile towards a student. My son is getting nice grades and excelling in patriot high school thank u to it!

This school is a fantastic school! As a parent being zoned to Patriot we had reservations, but it proved to be the best choice we have ever made. The teachers and counselors are a wonderful group and really helped my son in getting ready for the next steps in life. I love Red Nation and school spirit that exists in this school. It is better than the drama I have seen at games at other schools. I am proud to say that my child went to Patriot and I hope it remains this way for years to come.

First of all, there ARE NOT 1700 students in the school, there are over 2600 as of 2013/14 school year. It is 500-600 students OVER CAPACITY! If you want your student to go to school with overcrowded classrooms (28-35 students), walk in hallways like cattle and have 8 minutes for lunch than this is the school for you. By the way, don't expect the teachers to know your kid. Lovely facilities, but over rated! The number of students makes it very difficult for kids to make any of the sports teams due to hyper competition. Sadly, all very typical for a Prince William County schools.

I completely disagree with the people giving negative reviews about this school. I understand that every school has its ups and downs, and no school is perfect. The administrators and staff members are extremely helpful and answer any and all questions asked. The teachers are very kind and understanding about each students' struggles and difficulties. For the amount time that I've been here, I have not experienced bullying nor have I heard of someone else being bullied. I received a great education through vigorous and challenging AP courses. Every teacher I've had has had an interesting way to teach the class. The music program is the finest in Prince William County. This school was the best I have ever been to. Not to mention the school is absolutely beautiful.

Like all schools, there are positive things and negative things. Patriot, in my opinion, is not challenging enough. The teachers have the same routine everyday; do a lesson, do a worksheet, and get the homework. I have always not minded homework (I understand the value of it), but I have noticed that Patriot gives a lot of homework. Patriot HS is too worried about its athletics. The only way to be "cool" is to play a sport. However, the less popular sports (tennis) are "stupid" to those who play the popular sports (football, basketball, lacrosse, etc). Almost every math teacher is a coach. Bullying is present at Patriot (like EVERY SCHOOL), and the parents of the bullies think that their kids are angels. Kids are very disrespectful to teachers (I mean VERY), especially if you are in the very basic classes.

The school is new so the jury is still out. Beautiful physical plant, very modern and filled with light. However, it's already faced with overcrowding (trailers coming). My child is in 9th grade and has started in the "standard" (as opposed to advanced) track because he wasn't enrolled in advanced math in middle school. The "standard" curriculum has more kids with disciplinary problems and the teachers are a little burned out. In other words, not a real special high school experience. However, he's allowed to take 2 "pre-AP" courses which are challenging and feature - by far - the better teachers and a better learning environment. There are cohesion problems - for example, School Fusion should be a great tool, but not but every teacher uses it - so there's a lack of consistency. In general, despite a lot of hype, the school thus far has proven to be a pretty "average" public high school experience but we choosing to be optimistic.

It is a real shame that people post anonymously and are so negative and flat out mean. The education of the students is paramount and the teachers are some of the very best. Quit complianing and step back to see the real picture. It includes a Principal who never rests, teachers who are engaged and a safe environment!

The worst school, by far, I have ever been associated with! Nice new building ... but the worst faculty, worst administration my children have ever had ... and they have attended 10 different schools, in 3 states. The teacher's often have little or no experience ... don't know the material, certainly can't communicate it ... and in some cases, can't even speak English (I kid you not). They seek to cover up their incompetenance, by assigning massive amounts of homework, often forcing kids to stay up to the early morning hours. The administration is, of course, only interested in covering their backsides and will deny there is any problem. My advice, move to a different school district ... or better yet a different county ... because Prince William is a disgrace.

Over-hyped and falling sadly short of its promise, Patriot HS has been a HUGE disappointment. Most teachers are BORING; they just "work to the rule" and only want a paycheck. They are hired based on which sports they can coach & win, not for any instructional ability. Math teachers are TERRIBLE and frequently absent for sports. Substitutes just show videos. Two of my child's teachers have used profanity during classtime on several occasions. Instructors are supposed to update the h/w assignments on "SchoolFusion," but they don't. Also supposed to keep students' current grades and missing assignments listed promptly on "Parent Portal," but it, too, is usually out of date. Bullying is a HUGE problem; if your child doesn't believe like other kids, they will be constantly mocked...or worse. Rules against foul language, cell phones, ridiculing other students, etc. are never enforced, but kids who dress differently for "Spirit Week" are sternly disciplined. Kids get notices of important meetings after they're held. Guidance counselors are constantly switched. Only thing keeping me from giving 1 star is that somehow the students learn anyway because it's an upper-middle class area.

Patriot High School provides a world-class high school experience for its students. You can feel this as soon as you enter, this is a warm, welcoming, space that brings out the best in the students. Teachers were recruited on a competitive basis from throughout the country and it shows -- these are the kinds of teachers who love their subjects, care deeply about their students, and maintain good relationships with parents. The atmosphere is one of achievement -- the Principal greets students by name and teachers/administrators work with parents and students to overcome any bumps in the road. My son actually wanted to stay after school to get extra homework help and raise his grade to an "A" in one of his subjects! He went from nearly failing Middle School to getting straight "A"'s in High School. Being at Patriot transformed him. I just can't say enough good things about the school I move to Gainesville, VA for the schools and I never doubt that I made the right choice.

This school is one of the greatest schools in the nation! Great teachers, leadership, and the academic programs are run well and successfully! I personally am in various sports and clubs, and they all have great coaches and has a lot of parent involvement. There is no bullying or discrimination at this school, and has a healthy working enviroment for everyone. The material is more challenging depending on the programs you are in, such as the AP program. The seven habits was used very repeditedly in the first year it was open, but i am glad to be in a school that helps its students to not only set goals but to acheive them as well!

This school is in it's second year and still experiencing some growing pains. However, my daughter is a freshman and I could not be happier with her teachers, classes or extra curricular activities. She has always received the guidance she needs from her teachers and never felt bullied, lost or afraid to take chances. She has truly blossomed and been supported since she started at Patriot. There is a large, supportive parent community that I trust looks out for the best interests of the students. The boosters program and student body show incredible pride with the new school and generously welcome/guide volunteers. They make sure students receive opportunities to volunteer and gain leadership experience as well. This is the first school that teachers have paid attention to my daughter's abilities and helped her achieve her best. I would hope that other parents have the same experience and if you have questions, I have never been turned away or snubbed by a teacher. All of been more than informative with regular emails and School Fusion updates! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Patriot HS!

I am a believer in the Seven Habits program and have seen it in a few schools. This school would like to say they follow the program, but the teachers and administration do not understand the program and believe in a Win - Lose mentality vs the Win-Win . When addressed with issues regarding staff members and treatment of students - they the administration did not return emails from many parents with the same complaints. Sad to say that just because a school is new and it does not want to admit to issues and the problems continue. I am disappointed as I continue to hear the same things happen over again, I thought well maybe they did not want to address it, but they will at least fix it. I guess not. A bully free zone should apply to teachers and coaches as well as students. There are some very caring individuals at the school and we should put First things First (our students). With all that said it is beautiful and new and has alot of great new technology. If they actually read and follow to the intent of the Seven Habits program it could be great.

I LOVE THIS SCHOOL... I mean yeah its cool. Anyways most of the teachers are great! Their ART classes SUCKS THOUGH. But really it just a normal high school. Ive never heard of any bullying at this school though.Also the teachers are pretty cool. However other kids are often late to class because the school is so big.

This school is alright when it comes to the material, but I moved out of state to go to this school and just about all my credits are gone because I didn't test here. They give way too much homework - enough to the point of where if you're missing just one assignment, you fail the whole class. This school is really cliquey, so it's hard to make friends. They don't grade you on how much you know about the material, they grade you upon completion. Overall...I'm disappointed with this school, but the one thing I do approve are the teachers because they are alright.

This the first year the school has been open. My son is in 9th grade and doing great. A very large school but they do a great job providing a great deal of variety and teachers seem to really care.
