Kilmer middle school is just an ordinary, typical middle school. The school is pretty average, sure there could be some fights in the hallway every now and then, or a little fire. But they truly do do everything to their best ability to keep you safe.

The worst school environment(dry rules, blocked Chromebooks, bully's...)
I twisted my knee in school and the clinic didn't give me Ice!
they said Im lying!
and my knee is still hurting to this day.
they wanted me a doctor referral for a injury in school that just happend, just for a simple Ice.
when I told them it really hurts, they said you either go to class now or I will call the guard to take you.
They didn't give me Ice and I came back to classroom.
Yes, they are this silly!

The worst school, this is the only thing that I can say
they think students are some computers made to follow whatever they are told to, with no dreams.
no emotional support and...
the Chromebooks are just an electronic paper, every website that is not for school is blocked!
the camera... Whatever you think of, is blocked on chrome books.
90% of teachers are the same,
they think students are their 24/7 worker or something.
Everyone knows how evil the school system is, but Kilmer is a million times worse than that.
Kilmer is not meant to educate, its to burn dreams and make factory workers

I truly had a great exprience with Kilmer since 2023
My son was on IEP and he was able to improve in many areas

The school counselor and the social worker are working hand in hand to follow each case till the graduation

My son graduated from there and most of his friends are already missing this great school

I have some serious reservations about Kilmer Middle School, and quite frankly, its hard to see why anyone would want to send their child there. First off, the academic performance is just abysmal. The test scores and graduation rates are so low that it feels like theyre setting kids up for failure rather than success.

The class sizes are ridiculously large, which means my child would be just another face in the crowd, completely overlooked by teachers who are probably overwhelmed and underqualified. I've also heard horror stories about the school cultureits a breeding ground for bullying and negativity. I cant imagine subjecting my child to that.

As for extracurricular activities, or the lack thereof, its pathetic. The options are so limited that my child wouldnt have the chance to explore their interests or develop new skills.

The facilities? Dont even get me started. The place feels rundown, lacking basic resources and technology that are essential for a proper education. Its like theyre stuck in the past and have no appreciation for what kids need today to succeed.

And lets talk about the teachers. The high turnover rate speaks volumes about the environment. It seems like nobody wants to stay there, which means my child would be left trying to connect with yet another new teacher every year.

If my child requires special education services, Ive heard Kilmer doesnt hold a candle to other schools in terms of support. Why would I risk my childs education on a school that can barely keep up, let alone provide the help they need?

Overall, the entire setup at Kilmer Middle School feels like a disservice to students. Im not going to risk my child's future by sending them to a school that seems to care so little about its students. I need to look for an environment that's genuinely dedicated to fostering talent and individual growth.

Kilmer Middle School has unfortunately continued to slide into a deeply disappointing experience for both students and parents. The schools environment feels more like a medium-security prison, with cameras in every hallway and outside, and constant monitoring of laptops and technology. While these measures may have been introduced with good intentions, they only highlight the schools lack of trust in its students.

The administration is very disconnected from the students needs, and it is clear they have little awareness of whats truly happening in the school. While their attempts to remove cell phones from the school were a step in the right direction, they have been utterly ineffective. On top of that, the school has been unable to block social media or prevent access to inappropriate content on students laptops, further compounding the problem.

The administration is overwhelmed and struggles with even the most basic aspects of managing the school. Communication is poor, and their focus seems to be more on control than creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. As parents, we are simply counting the days until we no longer have children attending Kilmer. It is a school that has failed to live up to its potential, and its disheartening to see it continue on this downward trajectory.

Honest opinion is that the teachers are nice and the teaching is solid it is just that it was a bit chaotic. A lot of bad kids and bad influences. I would probably have gone to a private school for a better experience.

To say that this school isn't safe is an understatement. There are fights all the time (often in the boys' bathrooms where the school administration, teachers and Fairfax County Police Department SRO don't "sweep" due to "privacy concerns") and constant physical assaults against students. A teacher was even assaulted this year. This school, and FCPS in general, are so focused on the rights of the offenders and giving them multiple opportunities to correct their behavior that they don't care about, and frankly forget, the victim. Do you want your kid attending a school where it is routine for students who present a physical threat to their classmates to be walked from class to class by a staff member? Why aren't these offenders removed from Kilmer to be educated in a different environment in FCPS? I believe in the value of public schools, but this isn't what I want for my kids - or anyone else's kids. Any private school has to be better than this if you can afford it.

In terms of learning, it's hard to do that as a student if you are in an environment where you are unsafe, isn't it? Instead, you're focused on who is going to assault you next - whether in class, in the cafeteria, in the hall, and whether it's safe to use the bathroom.

With regard to Special Education, if your student has a 504 plan, most of what's included won't be implemented.

It appears that not much has changed - despite a new Principal - since another parent/guardian left a review in 2019. My recommendations are (1) move to a different school boundary, (2) transfer to a private school, and (3) if (1) or (2) aren't options, request a transfer within FCPS to a different middle school.

Teachers are sweet, there is a manageable amount of homework and their teaching style boosts learning patterns. Approach to bullying is average, obviously middle schoolers are pretty ruthless, so they try their best.

Depends on the team, but for the most part 7th grade teachers let the kids be kids, 8th grade teachers give a lot of busywork.

This varies widely by teamthe sped/honors team in 7th grade has amazing teachers who cared and made learning engaging and fun, but my friends aap kids had teachers who didnt teach or focussed primarily on busywork. One aap English teacher even had kids practicing handwriting! AAP history seems to be the one bright spot for gifted kids.

These students gang up on individual students, surrounding them, poking them, pulling their hair, taunting them, preventing them from getting to class - and when the victim pushes through the circle the students in the gang label the victim the bully and the teachers support the gang. Teachers appear afraid of students.

Our main struggle is to keep up with all assignments - the reports seem to indicate a lot of missing, which is not always accurate and makes the parents nervous.
But my son is mostly happy there, seems to be very engaged, and seems to learn rather well.

The leadership is weak or simply does not care. The administration staff is not friendly or helpful, very different from what we as parents or our children as students had experienced with one of this schools feeding elementary schools. Very disappointed.

We moved here from Georgia with my son entering 8th grade. The process for getting him into the school and more importantly into the right classes for him was a very easy process. Moving in middle school can be a terrible experience and the folks at Kilmer have made sure that he didn't miss an academic step. Very appreciative.

Now that I have just graduated High School, I thought I'd review each schools I've ever gone to (which is 5) starting with the worst one...Kilmer. The school was over crowded and the majority of teachers were unhelpful and didn't seem to care all too much. The administration (if you can even call it that) was a joke. With no sports to be in, the school also lacks a variety of classes it should have. I just remember them (the "administration") complaining all the time about not having enough money which is completely untrue. With the money pumping into that overpopulated county from tax payer dollars, believe me the funding is there. They also lack privacy toward the students. I remember the SRO monitoring Facebooks and calling my peers out of class if the school didn't like what they saw (which was sometimes just for arguments). This school needs to step up and have some respect for other people. You can't "Dare to excel" with the school disturbing you during class, just saying.

My child is very happy in school. He is in GT class and he really enjoys the learning because the teachers are great. There are also a lot of fun after school activities. Kilmer is a great middle school.

Agree with you, The office staff are not nice at all. This is the first school office I feel uncomfortable about. I have 4 children attending Fairfax county public schools, the staffs in Kilmer Middle School's front office act like they are the police women who are issuing the traffic tickets with no smile ...

I have three students currently attending Kilmer. One in GT, one in honors, and one in standard level courses. I can say the the expectations do rise quite a bit from one level to the next. Overall the teachers are good, some excellent, and many put in extra time when necessary. Of course, there are a few exceptions. My only real disappointment has been with the front office staff. I never feel welcome and anytime I need to drop something off or have a question I get the feeling I am annoying them or keeping them from some far more important task. I always get a small sense of dread when I need to head over to the school. My kids have all communicated the same feelings if they have any business to handle in the office.

I have one kid in this school right now and I am thinking about how not to send my second kid here. I regreted that I moved to this school district and let me kid attend this school. There are some good teachers in this school but overall quality of teachers are low. There seems to be a lot of new teachers there, making you wonder where the more experienced teachers went. The leadership of the school is not there either.

The school is fine I guess. It is way to strict on many rules, and unfortunetly does assign seating for lunches. The classes and time in between classes is not designated properly. Besides that, the teachers are great and their way of doing things works well.

My child had an excellent experience at Kilmer. She is bright, but has an IEP and I cannot speak highly enough of the Special Education department and their coordination with parents and teachers. She developed more confidence and independence at Kilmer and was able to enjoy learning much more than she had before. Also nice that they emailed grade status reports every 2 weeks (for all kids) so you knew if your child was falling behind. Teachers were great.

Great School. Great Teachers. Wide variety of clubs and program. Lot more for the kids to do in school. Very academic oriented. My kid was part of the GT program and the curriculum kept my kid challenged.

Yes, this school draws from a variety of areas but that isn't an issue, in my opinion. I have found the teachers in the GT program to be wonderful and my child has had a very good experience academically so far. The lack of oversight and concern by the Principal on how the Kilmer based clubs are run is an area of improvement. The music program is phenomenal.

The school itself is a weird juxtaposition of neighborhoods: apartments in Tysons Corner with parents who don't speak English and multi-million dollar mansions in Great Falls from kids who attend the GTC/AAP program here. Depending on which "group" you fall into, your experience will be very different.

My son had a good academic experience in this school. He was in the Advanced Academics track and was well prepared for high school last year. I believe his success in high school directly stems from the preparation he received at Kilmer.
