My son is afraid to use the bathroom because of all the CBD vaping going on in there. I often see school security officers outside the local 7-11 drinking coffee. If something happens to one of the students because of a lapse in judgement they claim sovereign immunity from prosecution

What they are teaching here is non related to anything on the state tests and the teachers just give you homework without teaching you anything. In my opinion, they would make better subs than full time instructors. Also, why are there always fights at this school? Also, I think this school is a SPED center because disabled kids are wandering everywhere in the school and the "supervisors" just let them walk into any classrooms. DO BETTER. SEND YOUR KID TO ROBINSON.

This school may seem like it is good on the outside but there are many layers that you do not see. I am a transfer student at this school. My parents enrolled me here in my 7th grade because it seemed to be a great school full of opportunity. However, I have been bullied and harassed hundreds of times by countless other students since arriving here.

First, I would like to say that the school is overcrowded. There are about 4,400 students and 300 staff in a building that is designed for maybe a little over 3,000 people total. Also, lots of rich parents have their kids going here and push them to the max in school. This makes for a very competitive and stressful educational setting. The courses might be good but the kids aren't. There are some that are the kindest souls you will ever meet but that is a mere fraction of the entire school. Everybody else is mean, hostile, and basically trying to start a fight or see one. There is also a social hierarchy aspect involved. If you are a class clown, good looking, or a well performing athlete, you will be popular and have a great time in high school. Basic high school stuff. The unspoken stuff however is the fact that you could literally be an average person with nothing wrong with you and you could still find yourself getting picked on. The staff don't even do too much about it.

On the academics side, The programs are plenty. You can get a decent high school education at this school. The only reason I didn't rate it higher is because of how the courses are taught. If you are in regular or elective courses, the teachers can be nice and make learning fun and easier. However, you run into some problems on the honors and AP teachers. Some are nice, forgiving, and genuinely try to help you but others can be cold, unhelpful, and leave you to do the work yourself because "You are supposed to figure it out in high level courses"

In short, I would say this. If your kid is smart, Is good at a sport, or wants to take advantage of the many clubs offered here, Enroll your kid. If you want your kid to stay out of a stressful, competitive, and overcrowded learning environment, enroll them at a smaller school like Lewis High School or South County High School (Both have bad ratings and reputations but I have been to both for events and neither of which are as bad as Lake Braddock).

As a parent of 2 LBSS graduates in 19 and 22, I feel the school did an excellent job of preparing our kids for undergrad and graduate school. Like any large public school, we had issues with teachers, kids and societal influences but all were met by admin staff or teachers when prompted. We were engaged parents and that made the difference. LB is a dream maker, if you parents help navigate their kids through this complicated time of your childs life.

This school has a MASSIVE problem with bullying. The students are verbally and mentally abusive to others. I would love to know what administration is doing about bullyin behind the scenese, because nothing is being done up front. Some of the staff shows an difference to a variety of problems.

this school actually sucks, it has zero respect for mental health, if you tell the truth about your mental health, you get nothing but bad counselors trying to act as therapists but are basically just telling you to "man up" and take it. the counselors and staff at this school do really the bare minimum, its sad. the teachers at this school 9/10 times are rude and disrespectful. why should i get in trouble for something as simple as asking to go to the bathroom? the teachers also 9/10 cant teach that well. this school is just a disappointment.

This is a rather large school (4300 students and 400 staff as of 2023). I think if a student doesnt mind navigating and cutting through large crowds, can be efficient with their time, is responsible enough to not engage in some of the activities their peers do, and would like to be part of a diverse community, they will be well off when they walk in on their first day.

This schools is literally a childs worst nightmare. Too much fight, bullying, kids smoking in the bathrooms 24/7 and all the admins do for the kids caught smoking is put it on their SIS account and thats it. The schools doesnt care about the students mental health at all and dont do anything about the bullying, its actually getting out of control. All they do is push you in honors and education but never once think that maybe the reason why kids are smoking or bullying others is because of mental health. I 100% dont recommend this school. And this is only my 2nd year here and it hasnt gone any better. Kids skip class almost every time. Administrators dont do anything, they think calling their parents will solve it but it clearly doesnt

This is our first year at Lake Braddock Secondary. We were told Fairfax County schools were great. The ratings seemed to back that up, however, that hasn't been the case. My child comes home and says while the teachers are attempting to teach, class is so distributive that they barely get anything accomplished, and the students doing the disrupting aren't being removed from the class. The week after SOLs were complete, her 7th grade classed watched Boss Baby instead of going over weaknesses or review of anything learned from the pervious weeks. I do not feel my child is getting challenged or taught at a 7th grade level, aside from her History and Math classes. Not to mention the three "safety concerns" over individuals bringing guns of some form to school and one texting friends he was going to "shoot up the school". No update from the administration on any repercussions.

The majority of teachers are kind and helpful with students. But the administration is the worst I've ever seen. SA, bullying, and harassment runs wild in this school and online racism, homophobia and transphobia is very common. There is no help for students suffering with mental illness and most students give up because the school doesn't care. Clubs and Sports are a good mix and probably the best thing about this school. I hate this school and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they are fully prepared.

I have a freshman and a sophomore enrolled who also attended the middle school. Great school overall, with awesome programs and teachers. Academically, the honors program is rigorous and the AP program appears to be challenging (my oldest hasn't taken an AP test yet to confirm). The music program is second to none - I have one kid in orchestra and the community they built is outstanding. The sports program is amazing, one of my kids joined cross-county and has blossomed and continued with indoor track, partly because of the good-natured and kind kids but also due to a great coach. My other kid tried out for swimming but didn't make it - super fast team, kids from Nation's Capitol and other clubs didn't make it in - but the coach encouraged trying out next year. My kid's likely to join crew instead this year. Overall, options and more options to grow. It's not a fire and forget school - you need to stay on top of politically sensitive issues that the county tries to throw your way and decide what's best for your kid / you need to stay on top of your kid's social choices and all kids seem to have cells (not mine - yet). If your kid is into STEM, you need to stay on top of options (science/chemistry olympiad, clubs, etc.) to enhance their experience. If your kid is struggling with a subject (e.g. math), you need to stay on top of tutoring or deciding whether to tone it from honors to general education. I guess my only ding for Lake Braddock is that counselors will not hold your kid's hand through these tough decision or even identify the problems. It's not like a private school, but if you're willing to supplement the extra guidance you get a heck of a deal!

Good staff overall, but many aging teachers are kept on in spite of poor performance. This school has gone down hill over the past several years. The focus has shifted from teaching our kids solid foundations of math, science, history and English, to a politically correct mush of mediocrity. Independent though is discouraged and stifled. Leadership is weak and politically motivated.

This school and teachers where great in preparing my son for college. He was a little behind after moving from CA. He caught up very quickly and was more than ready college life. I also want to say how happy we where with the JROTC program. My son was in this program for 3 years and it was a great experience for him. I never had a bad experience from a teacher or staff member. Would highly recommend!

9- We are a military family, and this school is amazing! The help I received from the office whilst enrolling my student was beyond helpful. The teachers reach out to the parents, good or bad! I love the parent teacher communication! The teachers want these kids to understand and grow in their classrooms and it shows!

Lake Braddock is a large school with tons of opportunity. Our kids have had some truly wonderful teachers here. All the staff we have had interaction with have been responsive, courteous and caring. We feel our kids will be well prepared for college as the academics are rigorous. With being a such a large school, everyone seems to find something they enjoy to become involved in. We have had a student at LBSS for each of the last three years.

Very disappointed about this school. My expectation was high. Students are very rude. Some of the teachers and admin office staff are not polite. Some teachers are not honest. So sad as a parent to see and hear all bad things about this school. I hope this first year goes fast.

This is a very big school. 7-8 grade children are in the same general complex although there are attempts to keep them separate from the 9-12th grades. This is one of the most highly compensated group of families in the US and the average family makes substantially more than $100k a year. With that parents often give children new cars when they get their drivers licenses. There are challenging classed here. Kids will be prepared for college. That said it is easy for a kid to get lost in this school. The demographics of the school are changing as well much like they have in other schools such as Annandale. The school has a large and successful Asian segment of the school population who will challenge any other ethnic group in terms of dedication to study and proven excellence. Likewise it is very common to find children being raised in traditional muslim fashion here. Our younger daughter transferred to Florida after 7th grade and found herself behind in some aspects of study and ahead in others. Overall, If you want a large school which is rather impersonal and not particularly agile, this is the one for you.

I am the parent of two LBSS students. I have been very disappointed in the quality of the majority of the teachers. There are some wonderful teachers but they are few and far between. I have come to expect that every year my kids will have very weak teachers in more than half of their subjects. If you struggle, you will likely need to pay for a private tutor.

Lake Braddock is a wonderful school!! Most of the teachers are extremely nice and they really care about each individual student. They really care about having you succeed and they are very flexible in helping you if you need extra help. They have top of the line orchestras, bands, and choirs, great athletic program, and even better academics. I highly recommend this school!

Many famous people have went there. They offer an advanced academic program provided to middle schoolers. The teachers are great and the staff is quite diverse. The school is very large which is great for a diverse environment. Everyone who attends this school loves it here. Many of the students are very spiritive about lake Braddock.

I am a graduate from LBSS after spending 7-12 grades there. It can certainly be intimidating due to its size, but the size provides so much diversity and opportunities for involvement. In 7th grade I was in the 'moderate' math classes. My teacher recognized that the class was too easy and spoke with my parents about bumping me up to algebra in 7th grade - which is what I did. This was only the first example of the great teachers at LBSS who take the time to observe how their students are doing and do what they can to advance them. That single bump-up to algebra (plus many other teacher interventions) provided so many opportunities down the road (I am now a doctor) that allowed me to go to top-tier universities and achieve so many great things. Besides the attentive and caring teachers, the size of the school allows limitless elective opportunities. I was doing automotive shop and metal working the same year as German and computer design. The size of the student population, in my eyes, is only a plus and provides a fantastic environment to mature and learn.

I have attended Lake Braddock for 7th and 8th grade (AAP), and I have loved every bit of it. The teachers are fantastic, but you do need to be focused and prepared for class to get good grades. I enjoy that the teachers will take time to see you after class or during Bruin Block (the equivalent of study hall), but you have to approach them our else you will not get paid attention to due to the large amount of students. I have generally found that people are kind, but some kids are very competitive when it comes to grades and just life in general. There are also many extra-curriculars to attend as well as school events, but you have to put yourself our there and ask about them because many are not highly advertised. The band program is also extraordinary in the middle school, the band director is great, music is exciting, and you get many opportunities to learn about music from professionals that visit. The only negative is that it is a secondary school so seniors are in the hallways with seventh graders.

I think a lot of the teachers are better quality and educated but school has huge issues with discipline. A strong liberal attitude prevails so if you arent one of them expect to be labeled an "outsider".

I went here for middle school, and honestly those two years made me become bitter for a while. There is a huge clique problem, and the children are snobbish, rude, and very cruel at times. It's hard to make friends if you are new. The classes and school are way too big, and there are a lot of fights that happen behind teachers backs due to the size of the school. When I moved to WSHS, I had a much better experience, and made a bunch of friends just because people are nice. The only good thing about that school is the orchestra, its top notch. If you want to feel relaxed, welcomed, good experience in high school, don't come here.

This is an excellent school. My daughter went there for 7th and 8th grades (AP). She LOVES it and doesnt' want to leave. Teachers are doing amazing job there and we never noticed any lack of attention from the school.

This is my sons 3rd year at LBSS. 7th and 8th grades were okay, but I noticed problems beginning in 8th grade. 9th grade has been extremely difficult. My son is GT qualified and always has excelled academically but LBSS is so huge that he has gotten lost. There is no connection between students and teachers. My sense is that teachers are overwhelmed and students are expected to swim or sink on there own. Given his strong IQ and academic success thus far I had high expectations for LBSS, because the school does have a lot to offer. But it is too easy for kids to slack off and get involved in the wrong things, mostly because no one is paying attention. I have tried connecting with the school counselor to get help, but the counselors are also overwhelmed and I haven't gotten any help there. A school that size also has safety issues which we have run into. At this point I am considering transferring my student to a private school and this make me sad.
