The current administration of the school has raised significant concerns among the teaching staff. There is a serious lack of support for teachers, leading to a negative impact on the learning environment for students. Furthermore, staffing shortages have resulted in a hostile and unprofessional atmosphere. In a particularly distressing incident, the administration terminated a teacher resident, despite the ongoing teacher shortage, further exacerbating the already critical issue of insufficient staffing.

The school has been without a guidance counselor for the entirety of the 2023 academic year, as the administration has been slow to fill the position. This has had a detrimental effect on students, who have been left without the necessary support and resources to address their social and emotional needs. Students in crisis have been ignored or redirected to unqualified staff members, leading to continued difficulties both at school and at home. As a result, students have been testing significantly below grade level in a number of areas, particularly reading and writing.

The administration has implemented a grading policy designed to artificially inflate grades, in an effort to obscure the poor performance of students. While report cards may appear satisfactory, assessment testing conducted by the Fairfax County education authorities demonstrates that the school is behind the curve in terms of student performance. The administration has sought to blame this underperformance on Covid-19 and remote learning, rather than accepting responsibility for its own shortcomings and ineffective policies.

In conclusion, the current administration of the school has failed to provide the necessary support and resources for teachers and students, leading to a negative impact on the learning environment. Its policies have resulted in inadequate staffing and a lack of necessary resources, including the absence of a guidance counselor for the entirety of the academic year. Furthermore, the administration's attempts to artificially inflate grades only serve to mask the reality of poor student performance. It is imperative that the administration takes immediate steps to address these issues and implement effective solutions.

Very responsive and knows each student by name. Takes concerns seriously and thoughtfully approaches situations.

My daughter’s IEP was carefully considered and followed. She has made great strides.

It has been amazing. Every teacher my child has had made a positive difference and was so responsive and flexible when necessary. The administration is always striving to grow the school and has received multiple awards these past couple years for improvements they are making.

Buddies up kids in different grades, encouraged service, great support for low income families

The kids are not stressed out with excessive homework.

Some are good, some are not. We keep seeing teachers having the same problems, like no control over the class, which leads us to believe that administration is either blind to the problem or unable to correct it.

We have seen increasing disrespect in the children, with no apparent remedies attempted. The school does a positivity project but that does not have a positive impact on children’s behavior.

Previous leadership was able to effectively manage and control students behavior. We see little evidence of the current leadership attempting or caring to do so. Our older child benefited from the clear rules of behavior, and unfortunately our younger child and her peers have not had the same environment and structures.

Many unacceptable behaviors go unchecked and continue to appear. As we said before, the previous administration held kids more accountable for their actions.

My children have made lasting friendships at Little Run and were well prepared for Frost and Woodson. The classes are small and the specials teachers are fantastic - as well as the library staff. Because of the small size of the school there is a real community feel. It is not overwhelming like some of the larger elementary schools. The teachers know the kids well so there is a sense of belonging. The student body is diverse so everyone feels like they fit in. It has a strong PTA and fun after school activities like girls on the Run, carnival, and the Roadrunner Ramble. I think the biggest asset is the sense of community and the more gentle atmosphere of a small school

We have to reteach most of her material because the teacher is completely ineffective.

Their positivity project doesn't change the fact kids are still actively being mean.

Overall we have been very disappointed I. The a hook as our child will not be prepared appropriately for the next grade without significant outside work.

So far so good, my son likes the small sized classes. The teachers are very responsive to questions or concerns we have had.

My daughter started kinder at Little Run this year. We couldn't be happier. There is such a warm sense of community. I cannot say enough about the staff. Many volunteer opportunities that many parents take advantage of. It is such a small school (2 classes per grade) that my daughter knows most adults and many of the children. Wonderful school!
