How terrible! I just went to drop off something my daughter needed for school, and at the office, I was greeted by a man—a gentleman—with a terrible, rude attitude. If they don't like their jobs, they should just quit. Because even if they're having a bad day, they have no right to take it out on other people with their rude behavior.

My boys love this school, teachers and friends they have made. There are lots of clubs and after school activities to choose from. The school is newer and has an amazing sports complex.

Academics is good; they have a great effective after school program. Bullying policies aren't pushed as much as they should be.

My child was being harassed by the teachers and the cop that patrolled the school because of her race. They never gave her the help she needed and asked for. A student spit in my child face and she got detention for. This school is unfair and only color and my child should not be subject to such ignorance.

My child has been asking for help throughout the whole school year and the refuse to help her. The cop that works there also continually harrassed my child because of her clothes when other student wore worse.

Teachers are organized and clear with class objectives and assignments. They use examples and provide details that help students learn and understand content.

South County High School is excellent. The teachers have been very responsive and there are many clubs and activities for students to get involved in. There are also many opportunities for students to seek help during school hours (Flex) and also after school. Overall- very positive experience!

Awesome school! They did such a great job transitioning our 6th grader to middle school - proactive, supportive, engaging. Advanced placement program is challenging and yet a healthy environment.

The school is fine, unless you need extra help. Teachers look at that as a huge inconvenience & the administration backs up their nonchalant attitude. If your child is a special needs student, RUN. If your child is a general Ed student, who might need help in a certain area or areas, RUN. If your child is a student who does well in school without needing any extra help... You are in the right place. The guidance counselors are of absolutely no help at all. Mainly the school is a haven for teachers & administrators who want to dress nicely, drive nice cars, & exert very little to no effort during the day. Just remember that at SCMS no one their really wants to work for their paycheck & you will be fine.

South County Middle School is the absolute worst. There are so many bullies everywhere. My son constantly is taunted and teased over things like his clothing and appearance. The teachers and staff are terribly unresponsive. My son recently got into a fight with a student and when he told the assistant principal the details of all of the bullying he went through numerous times, the assistant principal responded with "who cares?" I can't believe that a FCPS school is run this way. The teachers never respond to my emails and they're always "busy" as an excuse. I know this school is new but it is not well run at all and everything is disorganized, while the staff is not well trained or prepared.

I'm responding to an earlier post that claims this school only wants to deal with students who do not need extra help. I'm a parent, and I (and several others) volunteer during study hall (3rd period FLEX) by reviewing history flash cards with students who need help. The entire school is in FLEX during the same period, so struggling students can see whichever teacher(s) they need to see.

I have been thoroughly pleased with SCMS. The new building opened in 2012 to relieve crowding. Previously, 7th-12th grades were shoehorned into the "Secondary School." The middle school (7th & 8th grade) was opened smoothly by a group of people who had worked together previously. The middle & high schools are on adjacent property, but a good walking distance from each other. My son had 5 different orientation events in the months before he started here. He has been well prepared, but not coddled. He follows a block schedule similar to the high school's. In the Advanced Academic Program, his teachers are challenging yet fair. He has a reasonable amount of homework in his core classes, and practically none in his electives. The Principal communicates well and has reasonable advice. The PTSO meetings aren't widely attended, but the organization does a nice job. The front office has been friendly. When roaming the building as a volunteer, my name tag has been politely checked to make sure I'm an authorized adult. Our school bus service has been prompt, friendly, and safety-minded. There are a variety of after-school activities 3 days a week, with late bus service.

What a disappointing year it has been. Teachers are completely uncommunicative. The science teacher doesn't respond to emails and expects students to do badly to prepare them for success later...What? Standards are high for the students which is excellent. There is no help to get them there. My child repeatedly talks about how they are expected to learn on their own-that is not an honors curriculum but an uninspired teacher. So disappointed.

After having a few children in the school system at all different academic levels I can say the school system works great if you have a straight A student but not for an average student or a child that needs extra support. If your child needs extra assistance they are like burden on the teachers who only want to deal with the straight A students who do not need any extra help.

I'm going to 8th grade and after one year in South County Middle School, I think it's an amazing school. The only downside about the school is how small the hallways. They get so crowded, that you can possibly be late to class. Other than that, good school, and awsome teachers.

My son attended 7th grade and will attend 8th grade at South County Middle School. The school does an awesome job preparing rising 7th graders with a pre-orientation a few weeks before school. The Mustang round up is great for students and parents and provides an overview of the school year and what to expect. Yes, you are directed to the website..but everything is out there...hard to get used to...but very effective all the same. We are a military family and our son attended six different elementary schools before middle school. This school is by far the best. I find the staff extremely responsive and helpful. My son had a challenging year...due entirely to his choices. The entire staff worked very hard to keep him on track and communicated with me regularly. The block scheduling and flex period assist in alleviating some homework and stress/anxiety of the kids. Any middle/high school has clicks and some kids unfortunately do not find their place within certain groups; however, this school works hard at incorporating inclusion. I cannot say enough great things about this school and its staff.

My son is a rising 7th grader. I found the staff rude and unhelpful. If you call, you are told that everything is on the school website . The website is not atall user friendly. For example the website lists mustang roundup but does not explain what is a mustang round up and what grades are eligible for the roundup. In all honesty I think the school is doing some really good activities but they are not being shared correctly. I am already dreading my child going to this school!

I am a 7th grader here in SCMS moving from a school with 112 kids in it (k-8). We're a military family, and my mom wanted me to go to a private school. There are pros and cons to this school. I like that there are some more people so you can usually find at least one person that you can be really good friends. The gym class makes you actually work and my coach is HILARIOUS! There's almost always some joke or something going through in the student body. :) The building is brand new and beautiful. My teachers are really nice. It also has block scheduling where each of the classes are an hour and a half long. Sometimes that's good and sometimes its really BORING. I personally find the science classes awesome. Sadly, there are some rude, racist people I know and people can be exclusive and materialistic. I do all honors classes and they're not challenging, except for math. Also, the after school activities and electives aren't that fantastic. i.e: I really wanted to take German, but almost every school has it except ours :(. the after school activities are really unorganized. The buses aren't the cleanest you've ever seen, but they're much cleaner than other ones I've seen.
