From my personal opinion yes they are effective . Sometimes we think that teacher have to do all the work teaching everything to our kids . But the truth is that , we as a parents need to support our kids at home so they can do better at school . Is not only the teacher's responsibility , mostly is us if we want our kids to success at school.

Parent need to support there kids as well , is not only the school teachers that need to do all the job. Every parent should help their children's at home to be successful. My son has been in this school for five years and the truth since we changed the director we have noticed many changes to our school of course for the benefit of children.
We are very happy for all the changes and academic progress that the children have made as a result.

Mount Vernon Woods has had a significant change over the past year. They have a new principal that has removed many of the teachers that were the problem in the past. My child is in the 5th grade and has a wonderful teacher, she is always available for questions and keeps you informed on the homework and upcoming test. The administrative has taken a hard look at how the kids are being educated and preparing them for the SOL's. I have heard about the past issues with the school and can say for certain that things have changed tremendously.

So far, I am happy with the school environment. My kid is tested very often. Daily homework is given at Kindergarten. Teachers held meeting to individually report how kid is performing and where he/she needs to work.

Mount Vernon woods has potential to be a great school there are many hard-working caring teachers and staff. However, It has suffered from continued poor leadership over many years and is a poverty stricken environment that needs support in academics as well as social/emotional support. Teachers get burned out very fast from its toxic work environment, lack of support from administrators and parents. It is under constant pressure from the county to pass state testing which doesn't allow for it to grow in other areas needed.

In my previous post, I made an error when I stated that the families are being taken advantage* of because of the language barrier. It is because of the speech in the initial review that makes it painfully obvious that the review was indeed written by the administrator. It is easily recognized. The 5 star rating for teacher quality is correct because to hard work and care these wonderful teachers show in spite of the school's culture. The principal's leadership rating should be no more than 1 star. Parental involvement could and would be higher if they were given the opportunity to participate outside of International night in the spring.
