Great school that is very inviting to families. My child grew a tremendous amount under some great teachers who really supported his learning and maturation. He had a great relationship with admin and they made a point to know him too. An overall great experience.

Shrevewood is a very good public elementary. The teachers are the highlight. So committed to the kids. The community is excellent. The school organizes lots of activities for family engagement. There was a period after COVID where the Admin struggled to manage some class disruption and disciplinary issues (which seemed a challenge after kids were home for a year or some had never been on a learning environment before kindergarten)
But that seems to be significantly improving. All on all, a great school. (My kid says the playground is the best:))

Shrevewood has been a great school for my family. It is a sweet school with a great PTA that leads to a great sense of community. The teachers really care and are very supportive of the kids. One of the things we appreciate most is the balance between academics and social-emotional development. Our kids were challenged academically but also learned important life skills like collaboration, empathy, and responsibility. The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including music, art, sports, and after-school clubs. Communication with parents was excellentwe were always informed about school events, curriculum updates, and any concerns. Highly recommend this sweet school.

Shrevewood is an underestimated gem of a school. The teachers at Shrevewood are phenomenal, and challenge each student to meet their own potential. All teachers are certified or on their way to achieving their AAP endorsements, which allows them to incorporate AAP standards to all students regardless of AAP status. This is a huge advantage to all of its students. I have so appreciated knowing that these teachers know how to meet my child where they are and truly push them up to their potential, while also encouraging them just to love school. The administrators are incredibly helpful and understanding of each students needs, and help to create a close knit community. The parent community is also outstanding. We really try to support each other and bring the school together with an active PTA and sweet neighbors throughout the boundaries of Shrevewood. I am not sure why the score is so low for this website. We are so glad we found Shrevewood for our kids.

I made so many memories at shrevewood with all the amazing staff and students. I really recommend this school it gives a solid learning environment and at the same time having fun.

I like the school because they encourage children to read, be independent, analytical and respectful of others.
They have positive projects for the benefit of the student and in relation to others.

This school is completely unequipped to teach and challenge more advanced students. For three years in a row, my child has not been challenged and his math skills have not improved at all. Now, I learned that they restructured the ADP L IV program to make it a lot less selective. They qualified over 30% of students for Level IV, and less than 50% of students in the Level IV program will actually be Level IV students as they intermix a lot of other students. So in short, it's completely not selective.

I strongly regret buying my house in the neighborhood I did.

One of the 2nd grade teachers got mad at my daughter for having an asthma attack and told her she was disrupting the class by coughing. bullying is a big problem, my daughter would come home in tears sometimes.

I am now 34 years old, I am a mother of two children married and own multiple business. My three best friends who I met in fourth grade I am still best friends with until this day, all of us turned out very successful as did most of our class and the two grades ahead of us( all of our older siblings) funny enough I am not the exception. All of the kids that were best friends still are close today as I see on my face book updates. This school may not be a 10/10 but everyone and I mean every kid I graduated 6th grade with went on to do something great and we all still keep in touch. That is extremely rare in my opinion. For that reason alone If I still lived in the DC metro area I would send my two kids to school here.

Again, my response might not matter since I attended school here in the late 90's. However, I remember two LD children in my class and we were always kind to them, even the bullies.

Overall, I appreciated the fact that I had reliable teachers to count on when I need help. However, I did not appreciate the fact that I was treated differently from others based on my work ethic and behavior. I do admit that I never started going to this school from kindergarten and the fact that I came from a school that was not affiliated with FCPS was a challenge for me personally because I never had this experience. As a result, I was treated differently and was put to blame by teachers and having to suffer consequences that never applied to me during my first year. I also have a sibling who attended this school and was assigned to one of the teachers who made my first year as a student at Shrevewood a living nightmare. He was also treated horribly by this teacher due to the fact that he was related to me by blood. I do remember one day when he came up to me and mentioned about this teacher telling him that I was a really bad troublemaker. At first, I laughed it off, but internally, I was appalled by the fact that she even mocked me and assumed that it was appropriate to say that to my sibling who was only a second-grader at this school. If I wasnt treated this way, along with my sibling, I would have admitted that being a student at this school was the best thing I have ever had as a child. Instead, I was verbally abused and taken advantage of based on my characteristics as a student.

Homework isn't generally assigned. They sometimes get assignments to finish at home. We do additional math at home. We do not let school get in the way of a great education.

It seems like kindness, inclusiveness and respect is taught and encouraged throughout the school. The guidance class teaches valuable life skills and lessons and is my childs' favorite class.

The principal seems to really care about the students and always smiles and greets parents and children. One example. Certain toys were banned/discouraged in previous years. A group of 2nd grade students disagreed with some of the rules and petitioned the administration to change by organizing, signing and submitting a petition. As a result some of the rules were changed and kids felt they were heard and got a great lesson in being citizens.

My child is in the Shrevewood local level IV services. The class is a mix of AAP students that chose not to go to the center school (Lemon Road) and principal placed students that the school feels could benefit from the class. Experience has been great - my child does have learning challenges.

Things happen during recess between children. Things like balls get lost or broken. Sometimes some children doesn't want to play with others. Sometimes harsh words are exchanged. Not heard about any fights but I am sure it happens.

I would say the school is great. Most years there have been one or more "new English speakers" in the class. The students and teachers take great pride in helping them become part of the class and school and help them adjust. It is a diverse school that is doing great in spite of being overcrowded and having older facilities.

homework is mostly on the computer which doesn't make me happy as I believe children are using the screen a lot during the day AT THE SCHOOL and at home
! Oh, and it is a game, like math is a game that they can play to learn..

administration is not involved as much as I hope to see! Teachers are not using effective strategies to teach the children or follow-up with them. By the way, I have four children in Shrevewood and we had been in two public schools before that one, so I know what I am talking about!

students are allowed to speak up to them selves, explain or discuss anything with the teacher, and my kids had too many things STOLEN from them in the classroom and during recess with no one caring about it or doing anything about it

no communication with the administration or the office was effective at all. We reached out to the admins to let them know about the teachers and the fact that they don't respond to the emails but no action was taken and nothing changed...The office is the worst, as I called once in the morning to let them know that I don't want my kids to take the bus and provided them with all the required information but they forgot to deliver the msg to the teachers and my kids ended up taking the bus while I was waiting for them in kiss and ride
!

Worst school I had ever been to!!I am a teacher and I know exactly what the expectations are. I have four kids in shrevewood and my kids had been in three schools before, so this one is the worst one by far!
They have a serious communication issue! they don't respond to emails and don't return phone calls although I had recorded a voice mail more than once to the teachers. I had a teacher who forgot about our conference that was scheduled a month ago!!

The principal is wonderful - Ms Eugene really cares about the school and each individual student, and Ms Holley goes out of her way to make sure that things are taken care of and that your concerns are addressed.

My son was in need of an IEP and the school counselors, psychologist & Principal was very active in helping me through the process & getting the information needed so we did not have any issues getting it approved.

My son loves his time at Shrevewood. I don't know where I would be without the assistance from the Teachers & Staff at the school, as my son went through a hard time in his transfer from K to 1 & 2, and everyone came together and worked as a team so we could make sure that he succeeded and got the correct learning program that he needed, and now he's a thriving 3rd grader with much better behavior & grades. This is a very diverse school and the children seem to all get a long well and even learn things from each other. I am grateful that we are able to send our son to Shrevewood, as we moved here from Maryland right before Kindergarten so it was a big adjustment and he was able to move right on and start school where it seems that the faculty really cares about the students (and the parents!)

This is a school that pulls from a very diverse population - not only ethnically, but socio-economically. I'm disappointed to see the "equity gap" rating here, and it's an issue that I will follow up with other parents, but overall, I have been really impressed that the kids do not seem to see the differences that I experienced as a kid with a mix-economic status school. We moved here from overseas, and the teachers and administration worked with us to address the academic and social issues our kids faced in the move. I am very grateful - one child struggles with anxiety, and his teacher worked with us to support him and hold him accountable at the same time. We were so happy that we chose to stay when offered placement in the Advanced Academic Program at Lemon Road, and we have never regretted the decision. The PTA is very active, and the parents who can give generally do step up, but in a way that is sensitive to being inclusive. Of all the schools my kids have gone to, I've seen the least bullying here, and I have also seen teachers actively address issues with kids being socially isolated. They have a class called guidance that has impressed me in terms of focusing on emotional and social development in a positive and appropriate way. I also want to note that their School Aged Child Care (SACC) program is outstanding, and my kids don't want to come home when we go to pick them up! I'm disappointed that other families haven't had the same experience, and I will be more on the look out to see how we, as parents, can better support each other and advocate for all the students.

My child's reading improved dramatically in the first 2 months. Home classroom has a class library and kids visit the main library weekly. School also has at least 1 multi-age classroom where students practice mentoring.

The principal is friendly, enthusiastic, and responsive; she seems tightly engaged with the teaching community and the students and very much sets the tone for the school.

Based on seeing other reviews I think this depends on the teacher. We have a 1st grader at Shrevewood and no busywork is assigned. Most of the independent work is done in class and occasional homework is an exception.

Of the 6 teachers I've worked with - 2 were flat out terrible and should not have been teaching, 2 were marginal, and 2 were OK - not a good record.

I see no leadership as it relates to innovative teaching approaches. I do not agree with the discipline approach that everyone is punished for the actions of a few. There is nothing cutting edge coming out of this school

Punitive teachers, constant testing, massive amounts of homework and far from child-centered. My children are not making academic progress at this school. This school claims to be responsive classroom, they are not. PBIS? No. The environment is more like a prison than a school and your children won't be treated with dignity. It makes me sad that I have to send them there every day.

Shrevewood is a diverse, but inclusive school. Many of the students welcomed my children when we moved into the neighborhood. The Principle and VP are level-headed and truly care about the students.

We chose our neighborhood based on the reputation of the schools surrounding it. Shrevewood is our base school, we could not be happier! Every teacher my children has had is nothing short of great. yes, there have been some bumps with teachers and my kids, but it's to be expected. The Administration is fantastic in terms of communicating with parents and making sure they know every child in the building. The PTA is also a very strong and vital force within Shrevewood. I'm really excited Shrevewood was chosen to be a Local Level IV, I have heard great comments about the LLIV teacher, Ms. Vela.

We chose our neighborhood based on the reviews that Shrevewood Elementary received from various realty search engines; and, perhaps the school was indeed a top flight school at one time, but it suffers from severe overcrowding, particularly in kindergarten and first grade classrooms in spite of adjustments being made to curb the student to teacher ratio. At such a crucial time in these kids' education, they can't afford to not have a connection with their teacher because of the fact that the teachers are overwhelmed. Furthermore, some teachers utilize rigid systems to maintain class control and often alienate a young, developing, and energetic child due to lack of compliance. My younger son, who is in kindergarten, and had attended nursery school and Pre-K programs prior with accolades, both academically and interpersonally from his teachers and was well-liked by his peers, is an entirely different child now.

Such a great school with fabulous, caring teachers and a dedcated principal and assistant principal who both encourage parent involvement and student success! We have been VERY happy there and look forward to many years at Shrevewood! The only complaint I have is that their Kinder parent orientation in spring is a bit disorganized and uninspired, and does not AT ALL measure up to the stellar real-life, supportive, community-oriented day to day experience at the school! Such a culturally rich student population with parents who care about the school and its success in educating their children!

My daughter is about to finish her first grade at Shrevewood school.Happy with the school so far. Her teacher is a wonderful one,gives good home work material and also open to communicate with parents all the times.It makes us to feel like we are connected to school very much. My daughter enjoyed everyday of her school.

We are new to the system in the US, and we felt welcome here! They went above and beyond to make my son feel part of the group. He loves school, teachers and the environment.
