In 2025 TLES had an increase in Math and Science proficiency with Reading scores remaining fairly consistent. My student while not passing last year's SOL (due to his disability) made a ton of growth - which the teachers can show you across many different test reports. The teachers are wonderful and the school is a welcoming environment where every student is challenged and makes signficant growth. SOL scores should not determine if you enroll a kid in a school - there is way more information for you to learn about a school through a school visit and conversations with teachers and administators.

I myself, was fortunate enough to attend this school from 1995 to 2001. It was an AMAZING experience. The teachers and staff were great. They have excellent opportunities for special education. I'm happy to say my son now attends Timber Lane. Thank you for everything.

Timber Lane is an amazing community of educators and parents who come together to create a very special and inclusive environment. The current administration team is exceptional, led by a passionate principal who is very effective at both valuing his staff and motivating his students. The school is enriched by its diversity and celebrates the voices of all. They are able to provide instruction for all levels, challenging my son who needs extra support. I cant say enough good words about this special school.

Timber Lane has been an awesome experience for our family. We have a 2nd grader and 5th grader and have been enrolled at TImber Lane for two years now. With our experience the teachers are amazing, communicative and caring. Our kids are challenged and celebrated by their teachers. Administration seems to know all the students well and care deeply about their staff, students and the community. Administrators partner with parents to support families with school supplies, food, clothing, etc. It's a real community school. Don't pay attention to Great Schools Test Score info. There are many students coming to Timber Lane from various places with English as not their home language spoken. Students should not have to take standardized tests if they haven't acquired proficient levels of the English language - but they do have to (thanks Virginia) and that impacts schools' scores. Our kids are making great progress and enjoy learning. This school is a gem!

Very pleased with this school. My son requires extra adult support and needs to be challenged with above grade level content and the teachers are able to provide both of those things well. School is a positive and wonderful place. Lots of great events, all families are celebrated, great diversity.

Teachers only give homework with purpouse not busy work.

Teachers at Timber Lane work very hard. They have a large number of students who come with little background knowledge and supports at home which adds an extra amount of work for the teacher as well as information to they have to catch students up on.

Students are kind and supportive of each other. Responsive Classroom is used by the staff which teaches and encourages strong charachter development.

We have been at the school for 4 years and bullying has never been an issue.

I am a very involved parent at the school. Studies have show that when parents are volunteering and supporting teachers and students everyone benefits. If you come to Timber Lane be ready to lend a helping hand!

Highly recommend Timber Lane Elementary School! We have two children currently enrolled and have had a great experience with our teachers and the principal. Class size is small and we've received a range of personalized attention for each child based on their specific needs. Teachers have had open communication and are willing to try different strategies to maximize learning. I can't say enough about how much we love Timber Lane. The PTA provides many opportunities for building community amongst families and students, whether fun special events or providing in-school assemblies and author visits. The principal is accessible, involved, and truly cares about each and every student. We've had a great experience at Timber Lane.

We love Timber Lane! This is my daughter's third year here. She has made great friends and been exposed to students from diverse backgrounds. The teachers are so dedicated and communicate regularly with parents. The principal is an amazing leader who advocates for all her students. We love the small class size - haven't had more than 21 kids in each class so far. It is a wonderful school community!

Nice community school with dedicated staff and great library program. Lots of focus on ESL and learning challenges - would benefit from more resources and options for advanced students.

I think your experience at this school will depend greatly on the teacher and your child's needs. Previously my daughter had teachers who were not equipped to challenge her while assisting some of the slower learners catch up. Therefore she was bored and often got in trouble. This year her teacher is much more experienced and seems to have a good handle on providing opportunities for all types and levels of learners. Overall I wish there was a greater focus on challenging strong learners. Not having a dedicated aap at timberlane means that the brightest, strongest learners will continue to leave and the scores will continue to suffer.

Caring, dedicated staff in a multicultural setting. Amazing. My daughter has grown immensely and lived every second of her time here.

Timber Lane is an unsung gem of a school. The teachers and the administration are extremely engaged and dedicated to working with kids whatever their capabilities. My daughter has developed wonderful friendships with students from all walks of life, and the parents are generally low-key, friendly people who value the school and its place in the community. Love it.

Timber Lane ES has a lot to offer. The administrative and teaching staff are top notch. TL ES does an excellent job of meeting each student where they are. Students that need support get support; students that need to be challenged are challenged. I have a student that needs support in some areas and challenge in others and that is exactly what she receives. The community at TL ES is culturally diverse, which provides an enriching experience to all of the students that is not available at every school in NOVA. Parental involvement has increased over the past 3 years. As a parent, I appreciate that other parents care about the school, but are also down to earth and not overly competitive. In general, the parents at TL ES work together for the benefit of the school and its students.

My child attended Timber Lane from Kindergarten through 6th grade. He had great teachers every year. The only way to improve this school is with more parent involvement. The students, teachers, and staff are excellent.
