My child was bullied by their classmates and sometimes even teachers, even though they tried to fix it, it still continued and took a toll in my child. Think carefully before you decide to send your child to this school.

My son has been bullied here on a yearly basis from K-6th grade. Bullying is not taken serious here and not addressed accordingly nor taught. Discipline is done unfairly.

Overall our experience with our two children has been overwhelmingly positive, and if given the choice over we would have our children attend Vienna Elementary School again without the slightest reservation. It fully lived up to our expectations of an elementary school and we were truly sad to leave as our children moved on to middle school. We developed numerous relationships with the teachers and principles to the point where the school still feels like part of our family. Others may disagree or have had different experiences as no school is perfect, but for us Vienna Elementary was a simply a great school. Our children grew and learned in a positive, safe, and nursing but challenging environment. We felt that the school pushed our children relative to their abilities, but at the same time did not create a hyper competitive environment which is something that can be found at other high performing schools or schools focused more heavily on high performance and high scores on standardized testing. The school is very much a central part of the community with activities such a PJ movie nights, to Bingo, to after school programs and activities that go well beyond the traditional day in the classroom. The teachers and principles were caring and commutative. We had countless parent-teacher conferences as one of our children had special needs and the other was bit of a challenge. In every instance, the teachers and principles met with us personally and kept in constant contact with us via email or even phone calls after-hours. VES is not perfect and no school is but for our family it was just what our children needed.

Teachers do assign homework but it is reasonable (word study lists for spelling and other materials focused on learning vice projects) and the level is appropriate, such as learning 20 new spelling words by the end of the week.

The teachers overall are very good. There are some teachers that are also simply great. Our children went through kindergarten and all six grades and while we liked some teachers more than others there was not a bad one in the bunch.

The principles are involved, accessible, and present whether at the front door each day or in the halls. The principals came to know each of our children personally from their name to their strengths, weakness, and individual personalities.

We had a child with special needs and the school went out of their way to accommodate them. The special ed program is quite developed and robust. We absolutely loved the special education teachers who were critical to our child’s success.

It would be unrealistic to say or expect that children at any school do not bother each other in some capacity as this is just what children do as they grow up and develop their social skills, personal interactions, and relationships. (In our personal view bullying is an unwanted but inevitable part of interactions between children. While it should be mitigated and limited it is equally unrealistic to expect it will not happen. Even if it is completely eliminated from our schools it continues to occur even among full grown adults. Therefore while wanted to protect our children from bullying, especially excessive bullying, we also wanted them to develop at least some skills and strategies for themselves to handle bullies so they are prepared when they face this eventuality.) Therefore, the question in our view is how the school handles such situations. We found the teachers and the staff at the school handled these issues in a reasonable and responsible fashion. Not ever playground interaction is an act of bullying but equally children left to their own can easily cross the line into disrepect for their peers if not handled properly and promptly. The teachers and principles at VES did a good job of managing this balance. They are human and of course did not get it right every time but believe they did their best and were generally successful in most situations at upholding and applying the principles of the school and learning which are that all children should respect each other and themselves.

VES has been an amazing environment for my son to grow. The teachers he has are exemplary. When we moved to the area, we did a tour of all the area schools, and picked our house because of zoning to VES. We felt that their model, and their ideals were more suited for allowing our child to grow up well-rounded as a compassionate, active, global citizen. They strike the ever difficult balance of STEM and arts/ physical activity. The teachers and administrators go above and beyond to reach every student. I can't recommend this school enough.

We just moved into the neighborhood and our kids just love their school. Unlike many FFX county schools in the area, the number of classes in each grade are relatively smaller and the student teacher ratio is perfect. Our kids receive more attention from their teachers and can work on strengthening skills they are weak in and further developing their stronger skills. The principal and vice-principal are always at the front door every morning greeting parents and children, and are always actively involved in all the school functions. We love this school!

My daughter just entered Vienna Elementary's K class and I cannot believe she has hit the ground running with daily reading and writing assignments. She has even had to prepare and present a paper! The class has a principal teacher and an assistant to help balance the responsibilities. The school has been recently renovated and the SACC program is efficiently run. I am grateful.
