Their drop-off system is so dumb. There’s no signage on anything we’re kissing right is located or where buses are strictly allowed. I by mistake went with the buses were because there were no signs and got stuck there for 20 minutes and they did not wanna let me out and it’s not my fault. It’s their fault.

My kid attend at this school and love it. I never seen any bullying issues or misbehavior kids at this school. The school has various programs including science and maths after school programs for students. The staffs are friendly and communicate effectively with parents on daily bases on talking point app.

My daughter has been going there for three years. Her teachers, as well as the counselors and library staff have gone out of their way to be incredibly gracious with their time and work with closely to make sure she is doing the best she can.

Children used horrible and degrading cuss words and even racist name calling on a regular basis.

After several attempts to address concerns with bullying and aggressive behavior the response was that they cannot control how parents discipline their children however there was no discipline occuring within the school.

School staff approached bullying by encouraging the children to talk with each other, forcing the bullied student to confront the bullied. My child has lost her confidence and self-esteem after being called names, having her personal items stolen and removed from her desk and being ostracized. She was new to the school and to Alexandria and is now in therapy to undo the harm caused by the awful conditions in this school.

We love this school. Ms. Usher is very involved and the teachers are great and prompt in their communication. Our daughter loves it. The class sizes are relatively small allowing kids to get more personalized attention. Moreover, thanks to Thomas Jefferson's bright students and the proximity of the high school, the PTA organizes lots of great free after school programs such as chess, robotics, science fair that are often ran by the Thomas Jefferson's students. Our daughter took chess and loved it. She also met other children from the school and formed friendships thanks to the after school programs.

The teachers do a tremendous job of connecting with their students on a personal level, taking a special interest in what they do outside of the classroom. As a result, students are motivated to learn and positively contribute to their classes. Teachers are also very open to communicating with parents, realizing that a stronger connection between home and school will result in higher student success.

Not every student learns at the same pace or in the same way. Thus, it is important for them to be in environments that are most suited to their learning styles. Weyanoke does a great job of providing each student with the instruction that will maximize their learning experience, without detracting from other students.

Weyanoke has been a very good school for several years. Its principal, Felicia Usher, is determined to make it a great school. She has brought energy, innovation, and a fresh approach to maximizing what resources the school has to give students the best educational experience possible.

Recently, Weyanoke has introduced the Positivity Project, dedicated to helping children build stronger relationships by recognizing the character strengths in themselves and others. The goal is to create citizens and leaders who will enhance our communities and country by internalizing the belief that “Other People Matter.” Weyanoke's motto is "Character Counts." The Positivity Project takes this to a deeper level, in which the concept of character will become rooted into students' entire way of being.

Ms. Usher makes herself accessible to parents who wish to meet with her and discuss any concerns they have. She is also very approachable, as families are comfortable walking up to her and having a conversation. Ms. Usher has also been a true partner of the PTA, not only in attendance at events, but actively participating, whether it's calling rounds of bingo or painting faces during Family Fun Night. She is heavily vested in the students, the school and the community as a whole.

Another exciting program at Weyanoke is Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students), a National program where positive male role models volunteer in the school for an entire day. Scott Ralston, the Assistant Principal, has been a major proponent of this program's success. Students are excited to see WatchDOGS in their class, and teachers are eager to have the extra help. This program will have a lasting positive impact for years to come.

Weyanoke’s PTA has been a driving force behind the strong engagement between the families and the school, which has been recognized on the district and state level. A Weyanoke parent won the Virginia PTA Volunteer of the year for 2014-2015, and two Weyanoke teachers were awarded educators of the year for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 by the Northern Virginia District PTA. If you are fortunate enough to have an opportunity to send your children to Weyanoke, it will be one of the very best foundations you can provide for their learning.

The homework is to reinforce concepts learned during the day, but not an excessive amount. The priority "homework" has always been nightly reading, which is foundational to all learning.

We love Weyanoke. The teachers and staff all work together in the beat interest of the kids and are extremely supportive. My kids love it here. I can’t imagine my kids being anywhere else.

Completed the 2017 to 2018 school year. Great experience for us. Teachers are welcoming. Most of the front office staff is wonderful as well. Principle and Vice Principle are at all events and very approachable. We had a bullying incident with my child. An email was sent to the instructor and it was taken care immediately.

enrolling my daughter to this school was a horrible experience. She is up-to-date with her immunizations but yet the administrators kept insisting she is not, after weeks of running around w/ her doc. & school & forms, finally Weyanoke came to their senses that it was their mistake! This says alot about their leadership.

I do not recommend this school if you have a child with special needs. I have spoken to mothers with children from different grade levels and the majority do not recommend this school. The principal does not get involved with the special education classes. She leaves the decisions to the teacher of the class. If you want your child to advance academically and emotionally, then I do not recommend this school. Horrible experience.

Honestly, I am questioning many of these reviews with 4 or 5 stars. I have had a horrible experience with this school. Most of the teachers here are nice and pleasant but it's the administrative staff that I worry about. The principle does not seem engaged with the students and their academic success. My child tends to have trouble in school and much of it has to do with his struggle with impulse. The teacher was nice and told me she would allow an evaluation to take place but I have had so much push-back from the Administrator staff. I understand that it costs the school a great deal of money when doing an IEP (they get the money from grants), but it's for the benefit of the child! I just want to ensure that my child is getting the specialized instruction he needs in order to be confident in school. I want to give them the benefit of a doubt- but it's been years and I am starting to feel that if your child has any type of disorder, language barrier, or disability- you're in for a world of grief here, good luck, you will need it.

The school's motto "character counts" is a theme that is prevalent throughout the school from the professional staff to the well-mannered and very diverse student body. I am pleased with the amount of attention my daughter gets in the decent sized classrooms (18-21 students) and like that the principal is no-nonsense. The choral, strings, and after school programs are a big plus too.
