Best school I have ever been to growing up, the teachers there are great, the students there are great, and the playground and the fields are perfect for kids to play on. They even have a tennis court. They also have a baseball field. The school is amazing overall. I would highly recommend it for kids.

Sharon Aldredge and Theresa Garvis are horrible administrators. They're rude, disrespectful, and mean to their teachers and the kids dislike them. They have no behavior control over the school and blame the staff for their wrong doings.

The administrators do not punish bullying behaviors and they bully their staff as well.

I have found that all teachers throughout our time there strike a good balance between homework and recognizing that kids have family lives and obligations outside of school.

My children have had terrific experiences with all of their teachers. I have one child who is completing 6th grade, and another completing 4th grade. Both started at WHES in kindergarten. They have had great experiences with their teachers, both classroom and specials like science and music and art. Like anywhere, the teachers work with the kids and the kids who are interested in learning and succeeding get the most out of the experience.

WHES focuses significantly on character development in the kids. It's a constant refrain, even included in their daily school pledge that is said each day during the opening announcements.

We have had a very good experience with the administration of the school. They see and deal with a lot every day, but seem to handle it with minimal drama, i.e. they keep the drama of individuals from impacting the broader school. In addition, I am continually impressed at how the Principal and Vice Principals seem to know the names of each student they see in the hallways. It's really amazing.

The school works to provide a range of opportunities for kids who need additional assistance in certain areas, as well as with kids who outpace the subject matter in certain areas.

The school has a significant focus on teaching the kids about how to avoid bullying behavior, even from the kindergarten age.

Our kids have had a great experience at WHES. Recognizing that WHES has significant challenges given its local student population--not unlike any urban school--such as language barriers, etc, the teachers and administration have worked hard to provide opportunities and a solid education for our kids. At some point, it is up to the parents to hold their own kids accountable for taking school seriously and applying themselves. We have found that the teachers are eager to help kids who are applying themselves and trying.

The staff at Woodley Hills Elementary is outstanding! They are a caring, committed group who clearly places the well being of the students ahead of everything else. My daughter's math teacher arrived early in the morning to provide extra instruction for her and several other students. This same level of commitment is found within the administration who openly communicates and is very willing to work through any difficulties that might arise. Woodley Hills provides a great learning environment!!

I have 2 kids. one in kindergarden and another in 1st grade. The communications w/teachers is great. By notes and emails, response immediately. The Administration feels like family, every time I go, feels if they know me forever.

I have two kids at Woodley Hills, oldest is in 4th grade. I agree with the other 4 and 5 star comments, the administration is kind, respectful, and accessible. I had minor behavioral issues with one of my children and the Vice Principal told us (paraphrased) "... we will tailor the situation to teach the child appropriate behaviors just as we teach academics...it's all learning. " Everyone treats the children like family, the Woodley Hills family. Like the 1-star reviewer, I encountered a bad teacher and when pointed out to a Vice Principal, immediate action was taken. The children are taught to look out for one another, helping them become good citizens. I believe WHES is pursuing improvements to their advanced placement program which is what I consider their only weakness. I don't think kids with above-average abilities are challenged, in general, they're allowed to coast. I also believe teachers work very hard to pull below-average students up to average. My kids love their school and feel safe there. The same group of parents seem to do all the work....if you move here, please join in, you'll be welcomed into a friendly group of hardworking parents.

I'm concerned about the 1 star rating from the student who attended the school and specifically the 5 star rating submitted on November 4, 2006 that was allegedly written by a parent. It seems that the November 4th five star rating was written by an administrator rather than an actual parent. It sounds like a promotional brochure and makes no mention of their children actually attending and enjoying the school. This makes me skeptical of the trustworthiness of the administrators.
