An excellent learning environment with teachers, guidance counselors and administrators who are engaged with their students on all levels and care about their success. All three of our kids had a great experience, both academically and socially. Lots of clubs and opportunities to volunteer and feel a part of the Woodson community. Offers many challenging AP classes and also has a great system to help those who need extra assistance.

the teachers and staff are mostly great but that's it. It's is incredibly underwhelming and hilarious beyond that. Don't understand how the principal and the vice was never fired. That's FCPS for you i guess.

I went to this school for 2 years and moved due to another country due to my father's military service. I have another friend that attended this school and we both constantly struggled with academics. It wasn't that we didn't understand, but they left no room to accommodate military kids at this school. No matter your level you will just get thrown into the crowd and work to survive, there were no tutoring services (that were free). Although I currently am taking math ahead, when I was first learning Algebra, I was struggling so much that my family paid for a tutor for me. A math teacher at FCPS. I still struggled. SO when they have military kids take home paperwork, to assure their parent's military service, and the school gets funding for us military kids attending the school, where do the funds go? Not to our education. I'm about to go to my fourth high school before I graduate. Woodson will always be the lowest on my list of best high schools.

Our experience as a family of three children was very positive as compared to other school districts we came from. The curriculum was above average and there were no incidents so kids had a peaceful and enjoyable time in all four years. The administration was very helpful in honoring our requests for accommodations. If you are seeking a strong academic school with a conservative environment, then WT Woodson is the goto school.

I'm not sure if the culture of this school has change but going here was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was constantly bullied everyday and the teachers who saw this did nothing. The one time I did try to stand up for myself when I was getting spitballs shot at me from behind, the teacher didn't ask about my outburst or why I did what I did. He just continued teaching class as if nothing happened. However, I won't say all the teachers were bad. One of the few good ones at this school was Mr. Gee.

My worst experience here was when two players from the football team decided to throw me into a trash can in front of the entire class in the hallway and no one did anything to stop it. After that, I skipped class almost everyday because I didn't want to be bullied. I would literally just go find a parking lot to go sit in until school was over. Eventually, there was a moment where I would have to stay back a grade if I continued skipping in my senior year. I decided I did not want to put up with this harassment for another year and I was able to get my grades up so I can graduate. Overall, I would say this school does have a very good learning curriculum...for those who are popular. If you are not part of this group, this would be one of the worst places to send your kid. I just pray no other child that is going here experiences the harassment I did.

Many teachers at Woodson High School are not very effectivr when it comes to answering the questions the students have. They are also quite disorganized at times when they should not be, and occasionally make many mistakes.

This school does effectively support most students with learning differences such as students with disabilities. This school also offers time where students can go to teachers to receive help, however, this is usually not the case because that time is usually taken by the school giving the students lessons on POGPOL.

Overall I would rate my experience at Woodson as decent. A first, it was difficult for me to get acquainted with the environment as well as the people at the school. It is a very competitive environment, and most of the students will seem intimidating but they really are not. I am also not used to the style of teaching that the Woodson teachers use because I am used to the kinds of teachers who inspire growth and a love of learning in their students which is not like most teachers at this school. Most teachers only care about the top students in the class which often leaves the other students to struggle. That being said, Woodson teachers do offer time to help students, however, this time is limited. The environment is not the best for students who are not acing every single class. I have been taught that it is alright to struggle in a subject matter and that students may receive individual help, however, this is usually not the case, and it is difficult to be a student at Woodson even if you are struggling in one class.

Woodson is a really good school all the other students are very respectful and the teachers are very helpful. I transferred from oakton high school because it was horrible my teachers expected so much from me and it was very hard I also saw a lot Vaping and drug use at oakton. Woodson was so much better for me. My Grades instantly improved and I felt safer than when I was at oakton.

Some teachers are fantastic others are riding out their tenure until retirement, many have no interest in your student unless they are in the top 1% or bottom 1% .

Some kids are compassionate and respectful. Most are there for the academics.
Integrity is preached but rarely upheld, especially in the athletic department where theft of expensive, required gear, is ne er dealt with by coaches.

Principal has changed a couple of times recently, along with assistant principals leaving.
No effective response to dealing with bullies and bullying in the school which is more common than they will admit. Particularly when the bullies are female and part o& the popular crowd.

If your student is Acing everything Woodson will love them. Middle of the road kids are an unfortunate biproduct of the education system, best ignored and rarely helped to do better.

Bullying is ignored by counselors, the administration and some teachers. Some teachers are actively involved in bullying the students. The few teachers who genuinely care are gems.

WT Woodson is a terrific school, we moved into this pyramid specifically for the high school. Great academics for all learning types, AP options, and extra curricular activities are wonderful. Im a former educator and happy parent and more importantly our teenagers are thriving here.

I have zero faith in the Great Schools rating of Woodson H.S. Please update your information! This school is one of the most sought-after schools in nationally-recognized Fairfax County. My oldest son is a sophomore there and has had a wonderful experience. Of course, I'm sure there are a few teachers, as mentioned by another rater, that are "bad apples", but the administration has a history of dealing appropriately with them. I would recommend to anyone considering this school pyramid that Woodson is an unqualified THUMBS UP!

I seriously question the validity of Great Schools ranking for Woodson. There is extreme disparity between Great Schools ranking and other rankings on Woodson such as US News & World Report, Niche, and Washington Post. Clearly there is extreme subjectivity in Great Schools ranking process and I will disregard any future rankings from this website. I strongly recommend parents to seek multiple ranking sources in evaluating schools.

I am currently a junior at Woodson and have been attending since freshman year. The school and the environment are in general great. Except for a few bad apples, almost all of the teachers are incredibly friendly and willing to help you succeed in any way they can. The school building itself is lack luster at best. If you compare black and white photos that were taken in the early 1970s of some of the hallways and classrooms at Woodson, youll be hard pressed in finding differences in how the building looks now versus how it looked 46 years ago. Like every other public school, the cafeteria food is pathetic and laughable. Theres a strip mall just across the street with great food choices, its just too bad that leaving campus is not allowed... There are endless amounts of clubs to join, and unique classes to take. We have a student run news crew and news paper, just to name a couple. Something you probably wont hear about often from school officials is our drug, drinking, vaping, etc. problem. It is just as big of an issue at Woodson as it is elsewhere. Do not let the high academic averages of Woodson deceive you. Smoking and drinking are very real issues. I dont think I know a single person who hasnt drank or smoked. There is no way to tell who does and who doesnt. All of the kids who look like they drink and smoke do, and many of the good kids do too. Some are even dealers. On any school day you could ask someone who knows someone and buy it in school. Personally, I believe its not something that should be worried about much. The only thing you need to do to protect yourself from this is choose your friends and the crowd you surround yourself with wisely. On a more positive note, bullying is practically non existent. I would say that out of every school in the county of Fairfax, Woodson has the safest environment for students. Fights are incredibly scarce, and generally everyone is friendly to one another. Thats not to say there arent problems/conflicts among students, because there are, but generally as a student you have nothing to worry about. When there are issues, school officials are keen to respond in a way that defuses the situation. Sports are a blast. Student leadership and school spirit shine during basketball and football games. Great student body, with an even greater staff. Love this school and wouldnt have it any other way.

Homework amounts, type, and difficulty vary vastly from class to class. Some homework is ridiculous. Teachers will give you busy work that has little to no purpose or educational value, which in no way furthers your intelligence or ability to retain information for tests. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have teachers who think you never sleep, only take their class, and think you have 36 hours in a day and will give you homework accordingly. Not all classes are like this however. Some teachers only give out a few simple homework assignments a semester, or give you homework each week that stays consistent and is actually helpful and constructive. Woodsons approach to homework isnt bad, but it also isnt good.

Teachers at Woodson really are something else. For all they do they deserve more. They go above and beyond their job requirements and really are great. You can schedule after school meetings and work sessions with any teacher, where youll usually receive one on one assistance as if its a tutoring session. Teachers at Woodson care about their students and usually do everything possible to help them succeed.

Leadership is good. No staff member, administrator, or any other school related staff member for that matter is above being talked to. The principle doesnt seem like a distant scary alien in a glass office deep in the depths of the front office, with a name you cant quite remember, hes eating lunch with students and having a good time, making sure we know hes a human being that can be talked to. The janitors/custodians, security, and lunch ladies are all great too. They arent just random people working in the school, conversations are always going on between students and said staff. They play an important role at Woodson, past just an employee, but who Woodson is as a community, and how Woodson shapes its students.

With a diagnosed learning difference myself, I have trouble focusing among other things. Every teacher I have ever had has always been more than happy to go out of their way to tailor the class for me, and others with similar disadvantages. However, I cannot speak for students with severe physical and/or mental disabilities. Several school events are organized especially for these students with disabilities, which is really great, and they are treated with respect and kindness by other students.

As it stands, bullying is an uncommon occurrence at Woodson. Physical confrontations are rare, and verbal disputes are uncommon. When conflicts do occur, school officials take issues seriously and do not mess around.

Top-notch school that challenges students to always do their best. School counselors take time to get to know the kids and are accessible. Teachers are well-qualified and really seem to care. Lots of AP and honors classes to choose from.

We're new to Woodson, but so far I'm impressed by what I've seen -- kids holding doors open for other kids entering the school in the morning, kids using the crosswalk to cross, most kids driving carefully and abiding by the rules of the road. A very polite group of children, so very different from our experience at Stuart HS!

While this school is challenging academically, there is a real sense of community and caring - both by the active families and the teachers (all long term teachers).
The students truly care about each other and each other's causes and issues. This is a great school that gets kids into the best colleges in America.
