I was a student at cedar lee middle school recently. I'm going to write this review in separate paragraphs because I have a LOT to say.
I will try to not be terribly over-critical, but this school was overall a terrible experience for me. I'm a mentally sick & mentally disabled student. Before I had attended this school, I spent a week's stay in a psychiatric ward. This school did not help me ease back into life whatsoever.
On my first day of school, I walked in and was bombarded with students screaming and yelling and with adults shouting. I didn't have any direction whatsoever. While there are some good teachers, there were more bad teachers than good ones. A teacher once walked out of class and didn't show up to the rest of class for the next 45 minutes. This was a yearbook class and all the kids were given unattended access to photography cameras. They of course, took advantage of this and decided to target me and continuously take photos of me. Kids relentlessly bullied me here, and there were little to no measures taken to prevent this. I was teased and yelled at, other students would often catcall me and point out things about my appearance. I did everything I could to stay out of everyone's way. There were fights every other day. In MIDDLE SCHOOL. The hallways were constantly crowded despite them being 10 feet across. Nothing was done to prevent this.
I was supposed to have accommodations in place because of my disabilities. It felt as if these accommodations weren't even there. While I understand there are only 2 counselors and 700ish students, it was very hard to communicate with the counseling office and obtain the support I needed. I was often disregarded and put aside. Often times I would sit on the chair outside and cry, while someone sat in their chair in the office and watched me. Only once or twice did I receive actual help or advice from one of the counselors.
There was no resource room, and the counseling office did absolutely nothing to assist me, so I often had to seek refuge in the library. I don't think I would have survived this experience if it weren't for the lovely librarian that works there. I truly appreciate what she'd done for me.
Overall, the bullying at this school is out of wack. The teachers can be supportive, but most act inappropriately and unprofessional. Disabled kids have no refuge here and are generally unsupported by everyone. I HIGHLY do not recommend this school. Please, send your kid anywhere else.

Cedar Lee is a very good school in my opinion. Most students really want to learn and like doing it and the teachers I have are very motivational and understanding . Theyre a very good school.

This school sucks. The teachers are bad and don't do anything about bullying. The school is homophobic, racist, and disrespectful. My experience with this school was not good at all i do not recommend.

Students are held accountable. The administration does not allow bullying behavior to go undisciplined. (as long as they know it is happening).

I could not feel any more welcomed and encouraged as a new teacher at Cedar Lee. I previously taught at public schools and I love how Cedar Lee has a similar style. Teachers are not micromanaged, we are given time to plan, meetings are reasonable, and we are encouraged to do our job rather than teach to a test. The students are great with the occasional problem. This is a school you want to work for.

Unfortunately this school is as bad as everyone says. Most teachers don't seem to discipline so most classes are out of control. Very disruptive students continue their terror. There is a lot of bullying that doesn't get addressed. Overall if you can avoid sending your child here do it.

I came in knowing the reputation for this school. Although it isnt as bad as I had originally heard (fights, drugs were not as rampant as I had heard) the communication is lacking. Its nearly impossible to keep up with what work your children have due, guidance doesnt respond to correspondence. Children are not able to retrieve things from their lockers more than twice a day, forget your lunch? Either buy or dont eat because you can't go get it. Like many schools these days classes are split up between quiet, well behaved and everyone else not actual tests scores for gifted classes. I gave them two stars because there are some very caring teachers there doing the best they can with the situation and homework levels are more appropriate than some schools I've seen. Dont expect any real sports here, the county decided these weren't necessary (even after someone stepped forward offering to donate the money to keep them going). The school board here is useless but the new superintendent seems better than the last so far. Really wish I had another option.
