This institution fails to meet acceptable academic, operational, and ethical standards, rendering it an unsafe environment for student development. Physically, the building suffers from unaddressed health liabilities like visible mold, and roaches and bugs while the cafeteria consistently serves unpalatable, flavorless meals. More critically, the internal culture lacks professionalism and equity; administrators and faculty are routinely dismissive, with certain teachers actively engaging in the intimidation and bullying of students while showing blatant favoritism to others. Furthermore, a severe lack of oversight has fostered an environment of covert, non-transparent interactions between certain staff members and students, raising significant safety concerns that leadership consistently fails to address.

Wrote a review a while ago but it was deleted. I WOULD NEVER put my child through this school after my experience here. They do not care about the mental state of the students. They would rather write a kid up for defending themselves than offering them help. They have barely any safety regulations set in place. Their entire college readiness is a joke. Everything about this school is horrible.

My 7 kids have Genuinely enjoyed going to
Franklin county HS My son just graduated this year class of "24 His older brothers were class of "17 ,"12 ,"09 It's the old school Appalachian high school ! Occasionally some troublemakers will move into town.Most of them are druggies from roanoke And they get mad if their kids don't get a warm reception. But outside of that its a good school will teachers that care.

Terrible, terrible school. I would never let my child come here. This is not the environment for children to grow and learn.

English department has some great teachers. I was always in upper-level classes which has more qualified individuals. When finishing some basic level classes to graduate, I did realized some teachers did not fully understand the material (I taught my French teacher, French). I do appreciate that this school requires a finance class to graduate, but it was too easy and students don't apply the material to real life. Overall, this school could have challenged me better. I became a lazy student and barely needed to apply myself. I still graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Most students in AP classes will not pass the exam or will receive a 3 on the exam which most colleges will not accept. Not many of my AP credits transferred.

This school regressed to a 1950's approach of segregation. While not enforced, this school is heavily white and the children attending are taught racial discrimination at home. Racial slurs are constantly heard throughout the halls like calling African Americans the n-word. Asian Americans and Latinos are also subjected to stereotypical racial slurs. Teachers do not enforce respect toward other students but demand respect from students. To simplify; If you upset the wrong person, your future at this school will be torture. Teachers ask students "who is your kin" because in this small town, familial ties matter more than outside perspective. I never once felt compassion or respect from other students. If you do not conform, the community will try to tarnish your reputation.

Leadership is not present in this school, they have an authoritarian mindset. Upper-level administrators favor specific students, especially when related (very common) over new students. They use scare tactics on "insubordinate" students which often leads to more aggression and civil unrest. Discipline is often misguided.

They do have a great program for students with neurological disorders. They acclimate them into normal social settings which allows them to feel more accepted. The special education department is great and very loving. The school could work on teaching the lower level classes. Some students have learning disabilities that aren't easily noticeable. Some students just need more guidance. There is great potential for growth if staff would be more compassionate to those students and not deem them "troublesome". A lot of students come from broken homes, poverty, and abuse. They need to be aware that these aspects of life can be very detrimental for their learning. I knew students who worked 40 hours a week just to help pay bills and put foo on the table. They were exhausted and teachers hated them for not being able to pay attention. There are extremely smart kids here, staff just needs to reach out more to those who are struggling.

I am a parent that lives in Philadelphia & I've made several attempts to contact & set up a line of communication with the FCHS staff. My son attend this school & he's expected to graduate in May 2014. Even though I have court paper that allows me (by right) to inquire grades, events, etc; the faculty has ignored my emails as if they were the judge and jury. I am so upset cause I have now missed out on his graduation pics, because his father could not afford them. I am financially supporting my son and if the school would've answered my email anytime during the last 3 years maybe I could have those valuable photos.

FCHS is an excellent school that services a huge demographic area. Because of this, a student at FCHS can expect exposure to diversity in addition to the typical high school experience. The school is very safe and offers an amazing array of courses for students to choose from. If your child is interested in sports FCHS consistently ranks in the top-3 within a 50 mile radius. If your child is college bound, FCHS has a program that transfers to most colleges and allows them to enter college as a Sophomore. That's an entire year of college for free! If your child has any type of disability, the school has amazing resources available. The personal approach this school takes with its students is nothing short of inspiring. You will find that (with parent involvement) FCHS has fantastic opportunities for your son or daughter. There are drugs in all public schools and FCHS is no exception, however, there are a lot of safety nets in place to allow an engaged parent to detect this type of problem early. For example, a parent can monitor test grades, attendance and communicate with teachers online. My children went to FCHS and they found it prepared them well. A+++!

This school is "claiming" it does not have enough funds to issue each student a textbook. How are we supposed to be teaching our kid's the "right" way and give them the proper education without a textbook for them to bring home and study for the tests and quizzes? I withdrew both of my children today, due to poor decision making on Franklin County's part, and have enrolled them in a private online Christian Academy. When the school claims they have no money, however they had over a 2 million dollar surplus, they are miss-spending "our" money, and an example of this would be them spending $170,000.00 on fruit cakes last year??? This County is a joke, and so are the teachers. Franklin County school systems are an embarrassment to the education system. They are rude, and very unprofessional. This comes from a former alumni of 1996. My husband graduated from Radford University in 2001 with his Bachelors Degree, also he is almost finished with his Masters Degree with Liberty University, I, myself am almost finished with my Bachelors from Liberty University, so this comes from individuals who actually know about education. I will not name any name's, but a certain Administrator, Ms. "J"

FCHS is a great school. We have plenty of resources and great teachersthe admin. are very caring. There soccer team is amazing, but the baseball leaves something to be desired.

I'm graduating from FC this spring and I have to say I couldn't think of any other place to spend four years of my life. Everyone here is so helpful and caring. The AP teachers are pretty much the best ever. I've enjoyed my life here in FC and I plan on coming right back after college. It really is a great school and a great community.

First of all there is only drugs and violence if you choose to involve yourselves in them. The community is very caring and looks out for each other. The school has overqualified teachers, some being both professors and high school teachers. Having educations from Pennsylvania Univeristy and Oxford, are only a few of the great schools the teachers have attended. They are willing to tutor and help you out as much as they can. The school will definitely prepare you for college if you choose to take challenging classes. I currently am taking AP Calculus, AP Biology, College English, and Advanced Accounting, getting college credits already. My brother took similar courses and is now majoring in Bio-Chemistry at Virginia Tech and doing well.
