They don't care for the health and safety of their students. Their education is lacking because they spend too much time reviewing previous years instead focusing on the information necessary for success after high school.
Then the fact that 2 bomb threats have been received in the span of a week and no extra security measures have been put into place. Anybody and everybody can walk in to the school without checking what they bring in.

I was a teacher at this high school for two years and it was the most miserable job of my life. I had previously taught for over five years and the students were not the problem. The leadership is, from the top down. The superintendent is a complete figurehead and more of a puppet of the school board. The principal and assistant principals are unethical, unprofessional, and have little clue about what they are doing. And I hope you never need help from Central Office. As a teacher they are NEVER on your side and do not have your best interest at heart.

Socially, I've had a relatively pleasant experience at James Monroe -- no instances of bullying or explicit exclusion -- and I definitely have memories at that place. Academically, my time has either been just inconsistent or consistently poor -- with the exception of my time with a select group of teachers. [To be honest, the bad experiences with the few tends to outweigh the great experiences with the many.] I, personally, have an issue with the English department and the new principal. The school as a social environment mimics that of the real world. However, administration has been creating and enforcing new and poorly reasoned (or at least little explained) rules. Overall, I like the staff. The office team, custodians, nurses, and cafeteria crew have been nothing lovely in my eyes.

Every assignment is passed out as a death sentence and is used to teach the class. Didnt do your homework? You dont learn anything because the class is taught out of the book.

The teachers belong in Highschool because most of them have the maturness of a highschooler.

School funds go to pointless things. The leaders go to talk to higher level classes only for important scholarships and/or events.

We moved from Florida for the 2016-2017 school year and my daughter is thriving. The teachers and the administrations really care about the students. My daughter had an issue with someone bullying her and it was nipped immediately. I am also impressed with the guidance department and their ability to make my daughter expand her thoughts on college. Lastly, the Principal sends out a monthly newsletter and does a weekly call to inform you of the "happenings". Please do not judge the book by the cover. Call the school and go visit...I am well pleased with it.

No one at this school cares about the students. Teachers play favorites, administrators are pathetic, and the whole school is flat out awful. Everyone is dying to graduate and leave this godforsaken place.

Coming from Northern VA this school was a massive downgrade. The poor curriculum isn't event the worst part. This school plays favorites unlike anything I've ever seen before. None of my friends and very few students here are happy and that goes for everyone from the top students to the worst ones. Everyone cannot wait to graduate, and parents also constantly complain about this school. Go to anywhere else.

As a parent whose child attended JM for all 4 years I can say it is not a bad school. Class sizes are small and most of the teachers are invested in their students doing well. However, the main issues I found was the terrible administration, heavy presence of a Title 1 population and the fact that the school seems to almost encourage and do nothing about the heavy partying and alcohol/drug culture dominated by the wealthy white students who live in "downtown" Fredericksburg and the boys Football and Lacrosse teams both of which seem to be a haven for these types of activities.

James Monroe was an excellent choice for my daughter, the availability of advance classes were tremendous. Great small community high school.

JM Was a terrible school for me going from Prince William County to JM was like going backwards I felt like I was repeating a year of school and they say you need language classes to graduate and I kept getting taken out of spanish. MY freshmen year was fine I had great teachers my sophomore year not so much the students disrupted class there was one administrator who helped through the majority of that year but there was another that was always picking at me for missing school (which was for medical reason I guess he didn't really believe that) I had some great friends that helped me catch up but it wasn't enough for me to stay sorry everyone else is saying its great I just didn't have that great of an experience there!
