The administration failed to meet the expectations for a growing school that was so proposing. The dishonesty and lack of true information of what happens behind the scenes wont sustain this institution. This is a business and no innovation. .

This is year 4 my kids go to Metaphor, and I couldn't be happier with our experience.

My older son didn't speak Russian before he started Metaphore, and now it is his second native language. Interaction is strictly in Russian up to K grade and then it switches to 50/50 Russian/ English. The curriculum is pretty advanced. My son is in Pre-K and he can do some basic math already.

The hygiene routine at school is top notch. They teach kids to change to indoor shoes from age 2, and they change into pajamas for the day nap all on their own. This is accompanied by frequent hand washing. Kids are potty trained from age 2 as well.

Metaphor offers variety of activities, such as math, dancing, theater, chess and other activities. They have on sight speech therapy sessions - saves a ton of time for parents by not taking kids to Speech Therapy on their own.

They offer very healthy food choices for breakfast, lunches and snacks. All included in tuition.

The staff is super friendly. This is a type of school where parents can experience very close connection to management and staff. They are very approachable and work as a team at raising kids.

My youngest has just started this school, and it was an easy choice to make from the get go.

I cant say enough wonderful things about this daycare! After trying several daycare options both in the DC area and even in Europe, Ive found that this one truly holds a special place in my heart.

From the moment we walked in, I was impressed by their thoughtful academic approach. It creates a strong foundation for our little ones, and I love that my daughter gets to enjoy music lessons with real piano instruction and fun gymnastics classes. These experiences have been invaluable for her development.

What really stands out to me is the incredible staff. They are so warm and welcoming, striking just the right balance between being friendly and offering guidance. Its clear they genuinely care about each child, creating an environment where kids can explore freely but still feel supported and secure.

One of my favorite memories has to be the seasonal concerts. The creativity that goes into the costumes is absolutely fabulous! Watching my daughter shine on stage and seeing how much she has grown during her time here has been such a joy.

The warm and inviting atmosphere has allowed her to discover new things without any stress, encouraging her natural curiosity and growth.

Now that weve moved to another country, I find myself reminiscing about this daycare and the wonderful experiences she had there. Finding a place that offers the same level of care and quality has been quite a challenge.

If youre looking for a nurturing and academically enriching environment where your child can truly thrive, I wholeheartedly recommend this daycare. It has been a remarkable part of our journey!

This is not your regular school, its an educational deep dive.
For me it was also a beacon of hope for my childs greater future.
In Metaphor my daughter learned how to love school and build real connections with peers and teachers through a very diverse learning experience. Her academic progress and interpersonal growth were fascinating.
Metaphor is a place where your child will succeed on many levels and learn things without stress being supported every step of the way by a team of highly professional teachers with amazing personalities and big hearts.
We will forever be thankful for our 2 years with Metaphor family! If we continued to reside in the area we wouldnt choose any other school.

We have been going to Metaphor for many years. All my kids grew up in this school. I cannot be thankful enough for all teachers and principal hard work. In elementary school, kids study in English and Russian which is amazing. The kids are working on different projects, having trip days to DC to different museums, zoo etc They do performants where parents can actually go inside the building and watch their kids dancing, signing, acting. This is truly amazing! The school provides homemade meals and snack which is a great help for parents. My kids love Metaphor so do parents! Thank you for everything and keep our kids safe!

I would highly recommend this school to other parents based on our experience with two daughters attending Metaphor. Our older daughter started Metaphor weekend program in 2012 and we were happy with not only Russian language program but also with other extra curriculum classes that included world history, pottery, art and theater. My younger daughter just started Metaphor in September 2023 transferring from regular public school. We came to Metaphor for her 2nd grade not being able to read or write in Russian. Her math level was far behind the curriculum level of her peers going to Metaphor. It took us a lot of efforts to catch up and adjust, but we can't be happier with where our daughter is right now, academically and emotionally thanks to amazing teachers, staff, and the director of the school.

I would highly recommend the International School Metaphor for any parent looking for a top-notch education for their children. All three of my children attended this school at some point, and I couldn't be happier with the experience they had.

We've been sending our kids to Metaphor for almost five years and have been through the preschool, kindergarten, and now first grade programs. We send our children there because of the incredible Russian language development they have experienced, as well as the French language classes, art classes (including drawing, painting, and ceramics), extracurriculars like yoga and chess, and the overall atmosphere of the school. Zhanna, the principal, is very responsive and truly cares about all of the children. The teachers are very caring and patient towards the children. We recently had an issue with one of our children falling behind, and a team of staff members and Zhanna jumped into action to assess the issue and work on getting our child back to where they needed to be. The school hardly ever closes (only one week during the summer!) and has an excellent summer program. As a family in which only one parent speaks Russian, Metaphor has been a lifesaver to help our children become native speakers so that they may have a real relationship with their grandparents. We highly recommend the school to Russian-speaking families, as well as families who want their children to learn another language while also receiving a high-quality education in a loving environment.

We attended first grade and my son had a wonderful experience. The curriculum is demanding so be prepared for lots of homework but it's worthwhile for the level of academics compared to any public school (and even some private schools -- speaking from experience!). This school now offers 3 languages - Russian, English and French. Great after school activities, including chess, ceramics, drawing, etc.

Metaphor is an excellent school. The teachers and principal make every effort to make sure that the children receive the best possible educational services, as well as opportunities to participate in academic competitions such as Math Kangaroo. I am consistently impressed by the level of the subject material taught in both Russian and English languages. Not only are my children getting a great education here, but they also love school. Keep it up, Metaphor, you are doing a wonderful job!

Metaphor is the Great School in all possible directions. Academically, creatively, festivity and reliability wise .... you name it and the school has it all.
For those who is interested for their kids to lear and support the Russian language it is the perfect place. My child has been coming to Metaphor for 6 years, graduated from Kindergarten and currently in Saturday program and we, as parents, never regretted but only enjoyed. They have the best staff of teachers. They have the best organized and well-prepared recitals. Teachers really discover and develop kid's talents there. The principal is always in personal touch with parents and and children. I would highly recommend this school as a daycare and for youth students as well.

I started taking my daughter to Metaphor since she was 4 years old. And this year she went to the 1st grade in this wonderful school! Thats my dream come true! Especially with no public schools being opened in our are area, its been a blessing to be able to take her to school in person. They follow all the health safety protocols! The 1st grades curriculum exceeded all our expectations, its outstanding! We are very humble and grateful to the principle and all the teachers! Best choice ever! Thank you Metaphor!!!

Great! Our three kids attended the programs in Metaphor. Our older son spent 9 years with Metaphor and has successfully passed AP Russian exam with the maximum score. He also participated in several Russian Olympiads winning two gold and one silver medals. My younger son joined the daycare last year. In addition to Russian language, school also teaches arts, chess, music, math, dancing, and gymnastics. Zhanna is the best principal you can think of; intelligent, energetic, a true visionary leader. The teachers are awesome. we absolutely love the school.

This year we also enrolled our 3-year-old son who is now taken care by the same teachers that my daughter had when she was his age.

I honestly, can not say enough good things about this school and teachers. Zhanna is very nice and always look out what is best for your child. An awesome school! My husband and I debated whether to send our children to public school or Metaphor, and we could not be happier that we stayed in kindergarten one more year! The K curriculum at Metaphor is very strong and they offered a lot of classes. I am absolutely amazed that my 5 years old daughter can read, write, performed on the stage with no hesitation. She was accepted in Metaphor Chor "Lada" and was able to perform in the Russian Embassy and some local competitions. The teachers and Zhanna have been amazing. They are many great activities surrounding the school, they have nature discovery class and field trips.
Both of my kids love going to school every day and we did not have a day they do not want to be in school. This fact is telling me that they are absolutely happy to be there. Here is the list of some classes fro my 5-year-old: Music, speech therapy, reading, dance, math/reading, logics, the world around us, experiments and crafts and some more.

We never had any issues with bullying but I know from other parents they have addressed some of the potential attempts right away, called parents, st up meetings if necessary. I confident that will never let your child to experience this matter.

Zhanna is a true enthusiast, a person who deserves lots and lots of kudos for her amazing work and inspiration she provides to the entire team. There is no limit to her creativity, wisdom and energy (sometimes it feels like she never sleeps!). She is great in handling conflicts and in finding compromises in difficult situations.

We like Metaphor's approach in all subjects, including language, art and math. Both of our sons have been attending Saturday programs at Metaphor and we have had great experience with the school so far. Systematic approach, individualized attention, reasonable expectations and ability to instill the joy of learning in kids as young as 5 years old don't seize to amaze us as parents.

We are yet to meet a teacher at Metaphor who would not care about their job, or not be great at what they do. It is certainly a big accomplishment on behalf of the administration, since they seem to have a secret knowledge in attracting such a talented workforce.

For nearly 10 years, we've had one or more of our children attending this school including, at times, weekdays, weekends, and summers. It's complete immersion of Russian - reading, writing, speaking and culture. And we've had children attending a variety of types of enhancement programs like theater and art. (But what shall we do with all those little clay sculptures coming home?) Even English is offered to help children prepare to transition to their local schools. All the teachers I've met have a background in teaching in their home counties.

We think the world of Metaphor. We would not have our kids go anywhere else. I really do feel very thankful that we found this place. We even moved to a new house, literally only to be closer to it. The school is absolutely terrific. The teachers are amazing - its easy to see they love their kids like their own and invest in them. The linguistic immersion can not be beat - it is genuine and thorough, which will without any doubt benefit the children in the future.

The teachers are simply amazing. All of the staff are experts at not only pre/school education, but in setting the right example for little ones, as far as how one ought to conduct themselves properly. The staff are the most important and valuable aspect of Metaphor, and the chief reason we would not have our kids going to any other preschool in the area.

This is our fourth year with Metaphor. My two children are in level 3 and 11 this year. We've had a wonderful experience so far.

My daughter has a strong command of Russian, she was 10 when we moved here. She is 13 and rebellious now, but she still finds her Russian classes interesting and worth her precious teenage time. They don't just study some dull and boring grammar rules, they read both classic and modern Russian literature and discuss it in class. My daughter is highly introverted, but she participates in these discussions too, and she opens up even more in essays they get to write on various topics. She rarely shares her feelings with me, but she shares her essays, which gives me an amazing insight into what's going on in her heart.

She enjoys Russian history lessons a lot as well, which was a revelation to me, seeing as how I was never a fan myself, although I lived there and was supposed to relate to the topic much more. Metaphor's history teacher is truly amazing, he put a lot of effort in writing the textbook they're using during lessons and for homework. I love that he is nothing like the Soviet-style teachers from my childhood, instead he gives a wide perspective on events and allows students to have different opinions on controversial issues.

My son is in level 3 and enjoys Russian school a lot! He's a very diligent student overall, but with Russian homework he is always extra responsible. He is a fast reader and a very prolific writer, but he needs incentive to start, especially when it comes to Russian. English is so much easier by now, and English is the language that surrounds him most of the day, so Russian requires special attention and encouragement. I think Metaphor is doing a great job at it. This year my son started bringing Russian books home, they read them as part of their homework and then discuss in class. My son likes his current teacher and respects her a lot, and he absolutely adores his previous Russian teacher who he had had for two years in a row. She truly inspired my son and taught him to read and write, something I had been struggling with for a long long time! She just found the right approach I guess. Sometimes our kids need a different adult figure to teach them, and they need their parents to just be parents, not teachers.

Every day my son, who is now 3 years old, looks forward to coming to the Metaphor Pre-school. He enjoys his time with teachers and friends and constantly learns new things.
As a parent I have found all the faculty members to be very friendly and approachable, and the environment is motivating for anyone who wants their child to grow bilingual.

We chose Metaphor Academic Center for our 14 year old daughter because top quality education has always been first priority for our family. Saturday School at Metaphor is amazing because of its educational courses, extra-curriculum and AP level Russian classes, which can prepare for a NEWL and World Language Exams.

All teachers and staff members are always supportive, creative and turn school into an engaging learning experience. My daughter adores her Russian Language and Literature class taught by Yulia Dunaeva. She always comes home with a smile on her face and a wealth of new knowledge at her disposal.

Our son has been going to Metaphor since 2014. I'm a teacher myself and can't say enough positive things about their academic offerings. They offer a solid program based on individual attention to the needs of every child. Our son is 5 and besides being a fluent Russian speaker, he enjoys reading and writing in Russian. Our son loves his teachers at Metaphor and we really appreciate all the care and effort they put into educating all and every student.

This school is an overpriced babysitting center.
They don't have any good teachers over there.
This school's facilities are very old and overcrowded. Instead of teaching children to read and write they waste all the time on concerts.
Many children are not watched outside at all... and some of them have ended up with missing teeth and scars and other various problems.
They allow children to bully others. I definitely
don't recommend this school to anybody.

We do like this school! Our kid could not speak Russian 2 years ago when she first went to Metaphor. Now 2 years later she is practically fluent! -this was the whole reason for going to this school. 4 stars for still a little bit of Russian/ soviet approach to parents and everyday routine. Teachers that we had were awesome!!!
