We love this school and especially the principal Mrs. Dorsey who really cares about these kids as her own.
My oldest is in 8th grade and Ive gone to every PTO and PAC meeting and can tell you first hand that she listens to what parents have to say when stated constructively. I expressed worries concerning the way they attributed rewards and she reviewed and modified the process accordingly.
My kid had a math teacher in 6th grade everyone loves to hate because shes loud and strict. Would it have been better if she didnt scream so much? of course, but she also got my kid from barely passing her math SOLs to being above level and taking high school classes in 8th grade.
Ive also chaperoned a lot of school events at this and other schools and it seems fights always breakout. The problem is that teachers are very limited in what they can do. As a parent, Ive had to physically pull kids off each other and have no fear using my mom voice, curse words, and threats to get them to listen; all of which a teacher cant do.
My daughter who had been constantly refused a 504 in elementary on the basis of medically dx AuDHD and anxiety had started to be severely affected by the school system. She was finally seen at PSMS and has now thrived with the very minor accommodations we requested and received. She did experience sexual threats from boys there and I was very disappointed in the way the school board handled it but the teachers and school staff were amazing immediately requesting Title IX investigations and giving her support.
We love this school and my daughter will miss it incredibly after next year. I get to do it all over again with my son.

I finished middle school two years ago and it's still as bad as it was, even worse maybe. The principal punishes entire grade levels for what a few group of kids does and many teachers, even my old English teacher quit because of the students there. Nobody at the school tries to learn and the teachers are too lazy for emotionally care for the students there. I personally was bullied by a bunch of boys during 7th-8th grade and NONE of the staff did anything about it and had the mindset of, "boys will be boys." Never once had one of them stopped weird rumors spreading about me and not once, did they try to stop the fights that the school got, seriously, when I was in 6th grade, there were fights that broke out everyday for two weeks. My younger sibling goes here now and the fights are worse than ever, there were wannabe gangs at this school, one "waffles" and the other "pancakes" that had many injured and the school did NOTHING about it until it got way too far. This school is average academic-wise but do NOT send any student with disabilities here, the students are rude and they'd just get bullied. The school then had a rule of run way halls where students had to walk on one side of the hallway in a path, which made MANY people late. Then the school had the nerve to do hallsweeps, there's no way someone could get to downstairs, loop to the staircase (taking a lap downstairs) and going to floor 3 without being late! Now kids can't even wear backpacks and the busses are always late to pick up students.

If you have a special kid, never send to this school. Even for the Normal kids, this school is a unsafe horrible place. From office staff to administrators, are rude, disrespectful, careless and irresponsible. The principal Kanika is the worst principal I have ever seen. She doesn't even keep her words. The staff are so rude that you would never want to see their face.

I have three boys at Potomac Shore Middle School. My youngest is in 7th grade, and my other two attend Potomac High School. The teachers are excellent and very supportive of both parents and students. While there are a few hot head kids, overall, it's a great place. Principal Dorsey is exceptional! Its a great school.

This school was ok, but they implemented weird rules at the end of when I was there. They made one way hallways and stairs, but made it terribly so traffic would clash and everyone was annoyed. They also closed down all the staircases except for 2, but one was far away from 90% of all the classes so people only used one. The stairs were super crowed, and not fun to use. What also did not help the problem, was we had 4 minutes to get to class! The teachers said they timed it, but they have longer legs and did not factor in lockers. On the topic of lockers, they only let you use they 1st 3rd and 6th period! You could not even use the lockers at the end of the day or you would get yelled at. I herd you can not even use backpacks anymore which is such a bad idea. Everyone dislikes all the science teachers. The principle has made big speeches on behavior, but the teachers were too lazy to do it so they would just give out warnings all the time. The behavior was horrible at this school because teachers let kids get away. The teachers that actually enforced the rules, were labeled as the "mean teachers" even though they were just doing what they were told to do. The performing arts programs were really fun though. I dont think potomac shores can keep a art teacher, because all the kids who act up take art for an "easy class" and just yell and goof off. Some of the teachers cried because of the kids. The car, and bus lines were not though up well enough, because the car line streatches in the the neiboring houses and busses are slow. I hope you take my review into consideration -Jack Peschel
