My son is about to finish his first year at this school. It has been so wonderful. Theyve given him the social and emotional support needed to allow him to access academic and enjoy learning again. The communication with parents is great. Dont let the non traditional approach to learning and measuring progress scare you. My son is learning more here than he did at his other more traditional school!!!

We are nearing the end of our first year at The Sycamore School. Our student loves the creative, hands-on learning approach and the self-paced learning. It took a couple of weeks to get used to it, but he has adjusted and is thriving. He is now engaged, always ready for class, needs less redirection, and thrives in a smaller class size. Though there was teacher turnover that hit hard midway through the year, he was able to bounce back and continues to learn. He has also made several friends.

Though it is harder to determine his level of learning as compared to a public school setting, his tutors say that his work with them has improved markedly since his transfer into Sycamore. The most significant improvement is in his confidence in the classroom and his executive function, which is a big focus at Sycamore. We are very happy with his progress and Sycamore seems to be a great for him right now.

Sending my child to this school is perhaps the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. As others have mentioned, the main administrator completely lacks empathy for the students. The teachers dole out cruel punishments for the smallest of infractions. The judgement of the staff is questionable at best.

My child went to The Sycamore School for 2.5 years including middle and high-school. We withdrew them from the school part way through the third year as we no longer felt that this was an emotionally safe space for our child. Our experience includes but is not limited to: every year they attended most of their friends left the school over the summer. Every year my childs favorite teacher left over the summer. Every year an additional faculty and/or staff member left part-way through the year. Sometimes the faculty exits were expected, other times out-of-the-blue. (This includes the year their main classroom teacher left unexpectedly over the summer.) While at Sycamore, it was hard to get a sense of where our child was academically based on the report card/transcript and parent teacher conference. When we left, all the private schools we looked at, except one, found the Sycamore transcript baffling. Areas that our child achieved mastery at Sycamore especially in middle-grade math, did not hold up under third party evaluation by professional admissions testing and a separate private tutor. For us, interactions with the administration went from cordial to disturbing very quickly. A quote from our child after several weeks in their new school, Its nice to be somewhere where the teachers arent stressed out all the time.

We were hopeful when we began our journey at The Sycamore School, but, after our experience in our son's last year, we recommend that others steer clear. In terms of positives, the school has, on and off, caring staff and teachers. Unfortunately, the turnover is very high, and many of its best teachers and staff are no longer there. The mission of the school is wonderful but deceiving, as the children that are actually allowed to remain at TSS are not what they describe. Children are effectively dismissed from the program due to program staff changeover and the administration is hostile and dishonest in managing relevant difficulties. Indeed, their handling of staff and students can be traumatic for people who don't fit within their changing landscape. I am certain the school will reply that our case was unique, that they communicated problems in advance, and that the problem lies squarely with families who don't work with them. This tells you all you need to know IMO. Steer clear; if you don't, document everything.

Our child just graduated 8th grade after our first year at The Sycamore School, and weve been very happy with the experience. The small size of the school and classrooms allows teachers to get to know each student well and build genuine relationships. The focus is on building skills, rather than covering content. Math is taught individually, so students can work at their own pace, which helped our child regain confidence in their abilities. Most importantly, our child is no longer anxious about going to school and feels comfortable and supported, while still being challenged to do their best.

Our son has been at Sycamore for a little more than six years, and is finishing junior year. While there are social and athletic drawbacks to being in such a small school, they are far outweighed by the personal attention he has received from the faculty. He has also made solid friendships, and has taken advantage of interdisciplinary courses of the type I didn't experience until college. It is a very sophisticated education they are getting there, and one geared toward kids with ADD, anxiety and other issues that may make them a bad fit for big public schools.

The leadership is excellent, and communication with the parents is consistent and substantial. In class and in counseling, Sycamore makes sure the juniors and seniors have many opportunities to explore and plan for post-secondary-school life, whether that includes college, gap year or some other productive path.

Not everything has been perfect, but moving our son into Sycamore was the best choice we could have made for him. Like a lot of kids with ADD, he is very smart, and needed a place that could both understand him and challenge him intellectually. We would wholeheartedly recommend checking out Sycamore if your child isn't thriving where they are now.

I have a 10th grader at The Sycamore School and this is our second year at the school. He feels supported both academically and social/emotionally and he has friends. I feel like he's challenged academically, often thinking his high school work is college-level. He really enjoys the small class size, the ability to work hands-on and independently, but ask for help when needed. Staff and teachers are kind, caring and supportive both to the students and families. The mastery based curriculum works well for my smart kiddo that needs to feel like there is a purpose behind what you're asking him to do. We're looking forward to the Junior/Senior experience as the school offers a tremendous amount of support to help him decide on the best post-high school plan. Overall, The Sycamore School is a great small private school supporting kids of all backgrounds that thrive in learning in an alternative, inclusive manner.

My child has been attending Sycamore for two years. He feels safe, seen and heard. Honestly this has been our best school experience since kindergarten. The staff reach out regularly and the administration is thoughtful and accessible. I also did a presentation at the school to five classes of combined middle and high school students. All the students participated thoughtfully and without much prompting leading me to believe that they all felt safe expressing themselves even in a mixed age group. The staff really care about the kids. I also really appreciate the school's developmentally appropriate approach to technology.

Our child has attended Sycamore for multiple years. The small class sizes and project based curriculum have been game changing for our twice exceptional child. Weve seen our childs independence grow, both academically and socially and has a positive peer group and community. We would recommend this school to those looking for a small school that can support different learning styles.

This was the worst school we could have ever sent our son to. First off, the school is run by an administrator who lacks compassion for children. She seems very concerned with generating income and doesn't seem to care about the students. She makes decisions without thoughtfulness or caring. She sees things in black and white, lacks the ability to reasonably explain her feelings and is the exact opposite of a role model. In addition, the school has a problem with bullying. There is no plan on how to deal with this bullying. Our son was physically attacked at the school and the situation was not properly addressed. On top of it all, the school caters to a population of children with high social needs but there is a lack of knowledge of how to teach in a way that helps these students. If I could give a review of 0 stars I would. Please, don't send your student here. It is not a safe place.
