I have a son who has attended KGHS for 3 years and has done exceptionally well. The teachers are incredibly responsive to parents as in responding to emails or voicemails the same day! The curricula is varied and there are lots of AP and duel enrollment options. There are also some free after school tutoring resources. The sports facilities are very good, they have the best football stadium for several counties around, and school spirit is high. The musical program is one of the best in the Commonwealth of Virginia. My son has a handicap and the school has been very proactive in seeing what they can do to help him, as in they ask me, not me chasing them. All in all the experience has been quite good. I think the 'equity' rating of the school is on par with other schools nationally, therefore if you adjust for that the 'Great Schools' rating would be (and should be) significantly higher. Perhaps there could be a few more after school club options for kids, but you can't have it all. You can feel good about putting your child in this school.

Excellent School. My child has been able to double up on math and take AP courses to prepare for University. If students are excelling there are avenues available to push them even further in academics. They thankfully have qualified teachers to help all ranges of students in their academics. I would say King George schools are surprisingly top notch in this rural setting.

My son is a 10th grader and his past nearly 2 years there have been great. He is doing really well in all his classes, he’s made friends, they have lots of AP and honors choices and the facilities there are quite good. The staff is super responsive and if I leave a message i get a call back the same day. It would be nice if they had more STEM related clubs but there is no shortage of extra curricular activities.

This is our second year in the King George public school system and my son's first year of high school, now about 2/3 completed. I find the school teachers and administration extremely responsive and courteous, in fact surprisingly so. If I leave a message I get a call back within minutes, not hours or days. No inquiry is left unaddressed and they really seem to show genuine concern about students' well being. My son's grades are phenomenal and I have asked him several times if he thinks its because the school is easier than past schools and he always says there is actually more work and the difficulty level is about the same, which means they are doing something right judging by his good grades. They have dealt with virtual learning due to covid very well and really seem to be handling that situation about as well as could be expected given the novelty of the situation, especially since we live in an area where we and many others do not have broadband. I was a little miffed that the virtual learning schedule was 4 days per week of live classes and 1 day per week of self-study (no live classes) but as long as they are getting all the required subject matter hours and so forth I suppose its fine. The high school itself looks almost like new, great facilities etc. and seems like great school spirit. They also have a number of programs for gifted kids and my son was recommended for such a program without my having to 'push' the administration or anything like that. So far we are surprisingly pleased with King George High School. Go Foxes!

There are a fair amount of administrators that are really nice, but a lot of them aren't very effective. The students are pretty rude, and it's basically based on which social class you are in at the high school if you want to be heard. They take sports more seriously than they do with academics.

I have one student attending KG high school and we are really happy with his performance. I was happy to learn that the high school's SAT scores are the highest amongst neighboring school districts.

We love this school! I am very happy to send my children here. The previous reviews are irrelevant since so much has change din the past few years.

The school has come far in the last 6 years. I'm a teacher at the school and the former reviews are irrelevant at this point. The school building is new, the stadium is new, the kids are enthusiastic about their school, and their test grades are high. For a school of only about 1,300 these students have dominated in sports. Our academic offerings in regard to AP and dual enrollment is better than the area school. I live in King George and would be happy to have my children go to the high school.

Actually the complaints about the grading system were entirely correct. KGHS was on the 7 point system through the 2008/2009 academic year. They went on the 10 point scale in 2010 due to an enormous push from parents and (some) faculty due to the inequity of the 7 point scale against other schools with regard to college admissions.
