Lewis and Clark High School is one of thee worst schools I have ever attended. They are failing their students with lack of support, lack of community, and lack of what we are all here to do: learn. It is ridiculous how littler teachers teach, and how administrators are not any good at applying what truly matters in a school setting. From a student point of view it demonstrates how deficient they are in leadership as well as sympathy. The teachers there do not truly teach. They tell you what to read, give you papers to fill out, and for a 55 minute period sit down at their desk and wait for you to turn in your work. I have been given so many packets, and hand outs, and i still have yet to learn anything from most of my teachers. Out of six classes I have only had one teacher where I truly learned a concepts in her class. This is because she engages with her students, when she hands something out it is relevant to the lesson, and when answering questions she does not make the student feel stupid. It is the bare minimum as your job as an educator to be open to questions and truly teach the class. Handing out packets and reading paragraphs off of slide shows word for word is not teaching. I am a student and I want to learn, and yet concerns are regularly over looked when students attempt to voice their struggles in classes, with teachers, with leadership itself, the students are not kept in mind whatsoever. The Special Education teachers are no better. I am not a special needs student, but observing how the teachers treat the students that are is saddening. I have interacted with a few students in that class myself, and the teachers treat them like dogs, scolding and yelling at them to do a certain thing. If the student messes up, instead of making it a learning moment, they chose to shame the student. How does this create a safe and inclusive environment? They do not have the patience, nor the sympathy to be dealing with students, especially students who require more support as a result of their conditions. This is only the tip of the iceberg in how LC is a horrendous school. Their leadership is uncoordinated on multiple levels, and instead of focusing why students feel the need to skip, to be on their phones, or any reason as to why a student is not reaching their potential, they push policies that make it look as if they are truly doing something. I would never recommend Lewis and Clark to anyone who is looking for a high school to attend in Spokane.

Had two boys go through LC, terrific academic school. Great athletic programs, but should compete better due to numbers and socioeconomic level. Both boys took numerous AP classes and participated in numerous varsity sports. I’m sorry to say that the principal has two standards of discipline for the students, he has one standard for black students (enabling) and another standard for the rest of students. LC has a very diverse economic and racial enrollment. LC does not have a racial or violence problem, but does have a culture problem. LC also has a very strong alumni support group due to its 100+ years.

Overall its fine. There is tons of school spirit, great sports and like every school in Spokane struggles with racism. There is a problem with substance abuse for the school as a whole but there have been attempts to mitigate it.

Its very much teacher by teacher but generally throughout general, honors, and ap the levels are fairly similar.

The rules are arbitrary and the administration continually fails to connect with and prevent kids from falling between the cracks or succumbing to the school to prison pipeline.

there is no strong bullying problem but when there were school shooting threats there was a point where parents were not notified until students were already in the building and at one point failed to alarm parents or students of a threat in the first place.

Poor. This school has some gem teachers, but the administrators are completely out of touch. If I had to choose one word to describe this school, it would be ‘pretentious’. Certain people are more equal than others. The extracurricular programs are managed incompetently and the numbers on equity are indeed concerning. My child has attended LC for 3 years and it has only gotten worse.

This school caters to the wealthy, out of touch families. Most of the programs at this school that should promote compassion involve forcing poor students/families to beg for help. This school is rife with altruistic narcissism.

This school was on lockdown for two months when a former student suffering from affluenza and misogyny threatened a girl on social media. This is only one example of acceptable culture at this school. My daughter witnessed fist fights in her classrooms (one between a boy and girl) and was threatened more than once by aggressive classmates.

I am the parent of an incoming freshman at this school. I also have teens at another Spokane high school as well as at a Spokane Valley high school. Hands down, this school is leaps and bounds ahead of the other local high schools attended by my other kids. I feel a real sense of dedication and enthusiasm by the staff. School counselors return my emails with rapid speed and were more than willing and able to assist us even during their busy times . The vice principal even stepped in and offered to assist us with some registration issues in lieu of the school counselors during summer vacation. My child is taking an almost all pre-AP/ AP schedule and was provided all the info and more that he needs to be prepared for the upcoming year. Also to counteract a rigorous academic schedule, my teen is participating in cross country this Fall. The boys team is a class act and extremely well organized with a great sense of support and camaraderie amongst the guys, coaches, and the parents I've met. The sports programs my other teens enrolled in at their schools were sophomoric by comparison and their interest and enthusiasm quickly subsided.

From the reviews we bought a house in the LC boundaries when we moved to Spokane. I have one son that has done poorly and one that has done well (both in AP and honors classes). The teachers are hit or miss, the math department is poor, major sports pathetic, cross country fantastic. The new principal should make a difference in the coming years.

Overall, the school is fine - you get a good education, the staff is more-or-less friendly and helpful, and you'll walk out being aptly prepared to attend your first year of college. However, honors classes here are no more challenging than regular classes, they merely cram in more information in the smallest allowable time, then take a standardized test on the information. AP and Honors courses are more or less given inflated reputations. Students involved in sports, as well, are given priority and are allowed to do poorly, whilst receiving more help than others. In general, it's a good school but puts too much emphasis on AP and Honors courses, that quite honestly are no harder than regular classes (in fact I think you LEARN a whole lot less - you're only taught to remember), and those who attend the over-hyped sports programs - football, soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball - are given priority and special privileges where they shouldn't be. Kind of a shame for a school with good teachers, too.
