This school has changed not just our sons life, but our family's life. The level of care, thoughtfulness, and community the school provides is far more than we anticipated.

We didnt want to put our son in public school. We wanted to put him in a place that nurtures childrens early stages of life, of being a child. How to be social, how to be apart of community, and guides the children with the upmost patience and love.

I cannot praise this school enough. Windsong is a really beautiful place.

Like many parents in the world today, I was met with many options when choosing an educational path for my child. Homeschool? Public School? Private religious school? None of them fit what we wanted for our son, who at the time had just turned 4. That was until I heard about Windsong through a family member. Now I could not imagine my life without Windsong.

My son is free to be who he wants to be, while being guided with a gentle hand & encouraging spirit. He is genuinely able to just be a child, discover the world, while building resilient habits and developing relationship cornerstones that will stay with him for the rest of his life. The school is an outdoor school, where children get to play, explore, have a shared meal & take care of one another. Windsong offers a wide range of classes for all ages, including a mixed aged kindergarten with 3-6year olds. It's very clear that the teachers are invested in the well-being of the children they teach.

We were baby brand new to Waldorf education and were greeted immediately with open arms. As a parent, there are many, many ways to get involved with the school whether it be baking for the bake sale, helping set up & facilitate multiple events, and even learn new skills you never knew you could.

I encourage you to take a tour of the school for yourself. Even if you have no idea what Waldorf is, or how it fits into your home like we did, it may just change the course of your family's life for the better.

We have enrolled both of our children at Windsong for the last 4 years. The staff is incredibly supportive, and foster a vibrant and caring community.

Our kids actually enjoy going to school each day, and we can see firsthand the positive correlation they are building with education. Could not recommend Windsong more!

It feels like a living, breathing community rather than an institution. The emphasis on kindness, creativity, and connection has helped my child grow in confidence, curiosity, and resilience.
We feel incredibly grateful to be part of Windsong School and wholeheartedly recommend it to families seeking an education that is supportive, inspiring, and deeply human.

My daughter has been going to Windsong now for a couple years. I have loved the school and the faculty. My grand daughter is now in her second year in kindergarten and is thriving. I would do this all over again if I had to. The teachers have tremendous care for the kids. I have never had a bad experience with the school!

My 2 children attend this school. My oldest has been enrolled for the last 6 years. We love it! The teachers are all so incredibly caring, putting in a magnificent effort to meet each child's needs. My kiddo has ADHD and he thrives with all the movement that is incorporated into the entire curriculum. The lessons are thoughtfully planned to teach real life and big world wisdom. And the children truly care about each other. I have witnessed great empathy and community care amongst them when their classmate is in need of help. This is exactly what education should look like, in my opinion.

Our family has been at Windsong for many years. All three of our kids are currently attending. We value the commitment of their educators, who are deliberate and meticulous with their teaching practices. We value the school community, who are wholesome, welcoming, and supportive. We value the lack of technology in the classroom, which, in this age, is practically unheard of in any other school setting. All these values coalesce into an education where our children are thriving. Resilience is reinforced through small everyday actions that instill perseverance and enable children to push through lifes difficulties. The five Cs of twenty-first century skills include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and character. I see this every day with my children and their peers. On field trips, facilitators of the tours have commented on observing these traits too - a testament to the quality of their education.
Things that should be highlighted:
- In the grades, first through eight, the students travel in a cohort with the same teacher. This builds rapport, year after year, and better understanding of how the child learns best.
- Its tech free. No computers, no tablets, no movies. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Kids have their hands on realia. Not screens.
- Updates. Parents receive updates from their teachers, snippets of whats happening in the classroom.
- It comes with a wholesome community. Friendly, welcoming, and inclusive with plenty of coordinated opportunities to socialize with others, if your family is socially inclined.
- The kids are outdoors every single day with plenty of recess time and weekly hikes. In the grades, they take plenty of field trips, locally and further. They camp and take international trips. Its an amazing experience for the students.

Were excited to be a part of this school community and look forward to many more years here.

We feel so fortunate to be a part of the Windsong community. In a world where children are being pressured to achieve, conform, and meet ever-increasing academic milestones earlier through technology and discipline; a Waldorf education is the antidote. It preserves childhood and promotes growth through the imagination, hands-on-work, and creative thinking. Where else can your 5 year old spend their mornings trekking through the woods, climbing rocks, exploring nature, learning conflict resolution through free play, building memory through song and story, supporting their growth with intentional movement and art, and nurturing their body with wholesome meals such as homemade soup and buns? It is a joy to share in such a beautiful education of mind, body, and soul.

As a parent with children in Windsongs Grades program, Ive been amazed at how the school blends strong academics with creativity, outdoor exploration, and a genuine love of learning.
My child comes home excited to share what they have learned especially in math, art, Spanish and Japanese. The school teaches children in a variety of ways, reading/writing, music, outdoor PE, history, geography, handwork like knitting and clay making, children's theater performances, festivals, and more. The stories from Friday hikes to the river are especially wonderful.

As a mixed-race family in a city that isnt very diverse, weve appreciated that Windsong has families of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. With the small classes the teachers really know each student, and the sense of community among families is something rare and special. Its been a place where each of my children are truly seen, challenged, and nurtured.

Windsong is a wholesome place where childhood is protected, and the children are seen and loved. My children have been there for 7 years and they are both thriving. The movement, free play (learning how to play socially), and the nurturing of imagination in Kindergarten laid a solid foundation for academic learning in first grade. My older child has such a strong will (one of the results of kindergarten - a very intentional outcome)! He started learning how to read when he was truly interested and ready in first grade and it happened quickly with a combined effort from the teacher teaching in an engaged and dynamic way as well as his strong desire to learn. In fourth grade he is now an avid reader above reading level - you have to pry the books out of his hand! My younger one is now in the grades and also on track with all of his skills.
I have known many children who have come out of this school and so many of them are wonderful human beings. They can actually interact with adults with comfort and ease. They are interested and curious about the world. And they are genuine and authentic with a sense of who they truly are. I believe this is due to the value in the community of protecting children from screens as well as the very intentional way the teachers shape the moral growth and character of the children. I have a deep gratitude for the school, the hard work, dedication and passion of the teachers, and the vibrant community. Waldorf is not for everyone, but if it resonates with you, it could change your family life for the better!

My children went to Windsong for years, starting in parent child and going through some of their grades program. This summer I had my kids assessed as things did not seem to add up from what I was being told by their teachers curses what I saw at home. Knowing what I know now I would NEVER have my kids go through the grades program at Windsong. My children are MULTIPLE grade levels behind! When it comes to writing/spelling/grammar etc one is FOUR grades behind. Math is another where they are multiple grades behind. Needless to say they WILL NOT be attending the Windsong grades program anymore!
There were also unsavory games played during a grades trip even though two parents and THREE faculty members went on this trip.
More and more things have been coming to light about what teachers have done and the way some teachers treated children.
Im thankful to know what I know now so Im able to get my children out of that place.

My son was the only Black child in the kindergarten 2022 and went for nearly a year. One day I received an emailnot even a phone callthat he was not permitted to attend any longer. I contacted the principle for some account of why this had happened and she refused to provide any reason whatsoever.

To this day Ive never been given an explanation why the only Black child in the Windsong kindergarten was kicked out of the school.

An excellent school that reenforces the strengths of each child. Kids are allowed to develop their social - emotional skills as well as their fine and gross motor skills. Children are excited to go to school because they learn at their own pace and not forced to learn content or drilled to death with test prep.
Great and wholesome community that rallies together and support one another. The teachers here are calm and very loving to their students. And they listen to parent concerns. Highly recommend!

We are beyond happy that we found the Windsong community! The kindergarten program was a great fit for our daughter, the campus is beautiful, and the teachers are calm, kind, and knowledgeable.

Windsong preserves childhood for their students through cultivating play, wonder, and a reverence for nature.

There's a feeling of peace and calm when entering a Windsong classroom: the colors are muted, natural light is used instead of florescent light, and the toys and classroom materials are arranged in a way that are inviting to children.

Another reason that I love Windsong is because children play, both indoors and outdoors. They listen to stories that are told aloud, make art, and are not exposed to technology while at school.

To me, Windsong is one of the most magical places on Earth.

My children have benefited immensely from their years at Windsong, the community has become like a supportive extended family and their teachers are highly skilled and incredibly dedicated.! My children feel seen and accepted for who they are and are eager to try new things, excited about new academic subjects as they advance in the grades,have developed a broad range of skills and capacities, and their social and character maturity is apparent even to strangers.

Homework is not formally introduced until later grades and is age-appropriate. Homework activities center on material that the child can do solo, within a reasonable amount of time, and that compliment the work done during the school day.

Our family has been part of the Windsong community for 5 years. I chose Windsong for my daughter when she was 4 and she started in kindergarten. I chose it because it is a Waldorf based education where I knew they would emphasize and prioritize children's needs prior to any other agenda. The education is based on the appropriate developmental needs of children instead of a curriculum that is established by politicians.

My daughter is smart and would have excelled at any other school, but I felt it necessary to honor her childhood and give her brain the time to develop before being taught reading and writing. In kindergarten, she learned so much more than academics. She learned from the older kids in her first year then she taught the younger kids in her second year. Invaluable skills: to listen, watch, learn. Then she learned how to lead, with kindness, compassion, and patience.

At six, when the child's brain is ready to learn academics (read any child brain development book or even google it!) she excelled. Through games, rhymes, and songs my daughter learned numbers and letters. How I wish I have learned this way! It makes so much sense! They are children, they should be treated as such and taught in a way that they learn to love the process of learning.

The third-grade teacher has developed a bond with my daughter and her classmates that is unlike any other teacher-student relationship. Having the teacher move up in the grades with the class has been such an amazing experience. The teacher has been such a support to our family. I know that she is a safe person for my daughter to go to when life gets tough and confusing, as it usually does.

It truly is a community and it is a great place to be.

All the reviews about this school and how its a bad place for children to try and learn are 100% accurate. This place will not teach your children anything except how to survive in the Midwest during the 1800's. There is nothing academic in this school at all, and instead of addressing the problems, they hide behind the banner of being a private school which apparently lets them get away with anything they want, to include children walking away from the group on more than one occasion. If you have any concerns about your children's safety and education, do not send them to this school.

I am so glad we found this school, Windsong is amazing! I am so happy to have been introduced to Waldorf by Windsong. Young kids are allowed to be kids, I think far too many parents and schools out there push academics when kids are far too young. Kids will learn academics when they are ready and what will help them advance quickly is small class sizes and more individual attention not tieing 3 year olds to a desk!

It is hard to describe the teachers at this school as being actual teachers. First of all, there are some of them that dont have any degree at all. How are they teaching children if they dont have a degree? Secondly, one of the teachers has already been fired as a teacher at this very school because the parents all pulled their children out of her class, and all they did was give her another class to teach. Thirdly, there is no supervision when they go on their walks, hence the multiple children who have wandered off during these walks.

Not at all. This school caters to the slowest children, making the quicker children slow down their pace of learning so that the slower ones can catch up.

My family would not recommend this school. After investing time and money we left utterly disappointed. The parents were treated in a condescending manner. Some of the staff exhibited rigid thinking. This school makes grand noble claims, but lacks follow through and practical educational solutions.

Windsong is a magical place. This was the most logical continuation for my daughter from her Waldorf-ish preschool/Kindergarten. She learns Japanese twice a week! She learns Spanish twice a week! She eats homemade, organic, vegetarian lunches everyday! And here's the thing...at a Waldorf school, all this is NORMAL. Each week at school, she plays a flute, she whittles, she knits, she paints. She goes outside everyday NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER--not kidding! Freezing rain, snow storm, downpour, really; they go outside. My daughter loves her teacher, and we're only a month into the school year. I know that my child will be a better contributor to humanity because of Windsong. This school is a huge improvement to Spokane's selection of non-public school options.

Windsong is a breath of fresh air, literally. Students are outdoors much of the day in both free play and guided activity. Windsong is providing a top-notch Steiner education and our third grader is thriving there. His highlights last year were whittling, knitting, and painting, all of which improved his fine motor skills, helped his cursive writing, and grew his artistic confidence. His teacher is adept at approaching math, language arts, and science in many ways so that all learners can grow. Music, foreign language, and weekly nature hikes round out a stellar education.

We love Windsong. Our daughter has thrived in the nurturing environment of the school. Our teacher has been incredibly sensitive, and intuitive to her needs. We also love the small size of the classes, which provide much one-on-one attention to every child. The community has also been wonderful to get to know better, and we have made many friends through our involvement with the school. It is a magical place!

Windsong School is a gift to our family. We have a current Kindergartner and Preschooler and they have their teachers' true attention while in class. They come and go to school each day knowing that they are cared for while away from home. They learn so much that is un-teachable through a textbook.

I am a current parent of a kindergartener and I also attend Parent Tot classes with my 20 month old daughter. I am also involved in our Parent Circle, which is a wonderful way to make friends and keep up to date on all of the school and extra curricular activities. We are so happy with Spokane Windsong Waldorf, the curriculum, teachers and community are the perfect fit for our family.
