Said to be haunted by the souls of the Winchester Rifle her husband's business created, Sarah Winchester built an elaborate mansion packed with mysteries. And you can tour it!

The mansion has over 160 rooms and 40 bedrooms, 10,000 windows, and 2 basements.

But with stairways that lead to nowhere, a over 2,000 doors which open to equally strange places, like an eight-foot drop to a kitchen sink, or a 15-foot drop into bushes in the garden below, the house is the stuff Halloween movies are made from.

Staircases lead straight into ceilings, expensive Tiffany stained-glass windows were installed in places where they would get no light, and there are secret passages galore. There's even a cabinet that when opened leads through thirty rooms of the house.

You do need tickets to tour - they will sell out of course for Halloween, but the range of tours is a lot of fun. There's even a flashlight tour!

A one of a kind place, definitely worth the trip, either for a day trip - or make a weekend of it and stay in San Jose or San Francisco.
