Location: Vandenberg AFB (VAFB) is located on the central coast of California, near Lompoc and Santa Maria in northern Santa Barbara County. Lompoc, 11 miles from base, is the closest town. The base encompasses over 99,604 acres, with 44 miles of pristine coastline stretching along the Pacific Ocean. It is truly a military installation in a national park setting. Vandenberg AFB is the only military base in the United States from which unmanned government and commercial satellites are launched into polar orbit.

Schools: Children residing on Vandenberg AFB may attend schools in the Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD). There is one elementary school on the main base and a middle school located across from the Main gate. All are run by Lompoc Unified School District.
