Kirtland Air Force Base (AFB) Housing and Information:
Location: Kirtland AFB (KAFB) is located in Bernalillo County, in the southeast section of Albuquerque, and in Air Force Global Strike Command. The base occupies over 52,000 acres.

Schools: The largest school district in New Mexico, Albuquerque Public Schools (APS)provides educational services to nearly 85,000 students who attend one of the district's 14 high schools, 26 middle schools, 88 elementary schools, and 35 Schools of Choice and Charter Schools In 1994, Rio Rancho, New Mexico created its own school district. The Rio Rancho School District has ten elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools. Also, Kirtland AFB has a full-time School Liaison Officer (SLO) who is available to assist parents with their children’s education needs by calling 505-846-6477/DSN 312-246-6477.
Housing: REQUIREMENT FOR ALL Active Duty (AD) Air Force (AF) MILITARY MEMBERS: AF PCS orders require Kirtland AFB members that are eligible for or are already receiving BAH, to report to the military Housing Management Office (HMO) before entering into any residential rental/lease agreement for on or off-base housing, and prior to entering into a home purchase agreement. Other service members are encouraged to do so, as well. Visit the Air Force Housing website to find your new home with the Air Force. This website serves as a one-stop shop for Airmen and their families to obtain information about the housing options and support services available to them at Air Force bases world-wide.
REQUIREMENT FOR ALL UNACCOMPANIED OR SINGLE MILITARY MEMBERS: Unaccompanied or single members below grade of E-5 MUST report to the Dormitory Manager (505-853-5479, DSN 263-5479 or 505-569-8866) for housing assistance. Members are authorized to move out of the dorm, must contact their dorm manager well in advance of their move to verify and process any applicable housing or moving entitlement.
Privately owned weapon registration is required for all residents of Kirtland Family Housing, Fam-Camp, base dormitories, lodging facilities and government owned or operated facilities. Firearms registration is accomplished by completing an AF IMT 1314, Firearms Registration, and delivering that form to the Law Enforcement Armory. All firearms registered to owners residing in the dormitories are required to be stored in the Law Enforcement Armory immediately upon purchase of the firearm. When entering the installation while transporting firearms, immediately inform gate security personnel.Under no circumstances can firearms be left in any vehicle unattended.
