My experience has been amazing, we have a small school, which allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, giving children more confidence when asking questions, engage in group activities, and opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers. Most importantly, every staff member knows all the kids and have created special bonds with each and every one of them. As a parent, I’ve always felt welcomed and my questions answered. Academic wise my children have developed impressively. I think it’s from the teachers, paras and administrators giving their time to help each child not only grow in their own way, but reaches out to help them succeed academically. I totally agree with the saying, “ it takes a village to educate a child.” Here at Amerischool each and everyone of the teachers, paras and administrators are caring and extraordinary educators.

When Mrs. Fox and some other teachers were here it was GREAT!! Now that Mccormick is in charge it has really gone down. I am disappointed because I hoped nothing would change when they all left but the south campus took a huge hit in losing some of Yuma's greatest educators.

Posted: May 23, 2019

Teachers seem to just assign whatever to give the kids busy work while at home. Like they didn't do enough work at school???

Posted: May 23, 2019

Many of the teachers lack customer service skills. I assume it is because they have a lack of administration communication.

Posted: May 23, 2019

The "principal" is so out of touch with the families here it is terrible. There is no communication between her and the parents. She never is around and when she is there she is very rude and short with communication. My child will not be returning after this year ends.

Posted: May 2, 2017

My children have been attending Amerischools South since we moved to Yuma four years ago. I find the parent teacher communication to be above what you would find at other schools. I also am pleased with the way teachers engage the learning needs of each student.

Students are held to a high standard. They are expected to treat all people(student or staff) with respect and compassion. They are taught values that will transfer into life as an adult, students are taught that honesty is the best policy and are habitually reminded of the good choices they do make to instill positive core values.

Having a school like Amerischools Academy has been amazing! I am happy to see my child advance and grow. They help in every way they can, and truly care about their students. Love the family environment!

This school has minimal to no bullying. Children can be mean to others no matter what but at this school when they see that it is the same person being picked on they deal with it swiftly. Students are talked to first by staff and then it is moved on to higher peoples if necessary but most of the time it is handled the first time by the classroom teacher.

Posted: April 13, 2017

Each classroom is able to modify/accommodate students all all learning types. Students are given access to computers, allowed to work outside, small groups to boost learning and many other activities. I only wish more schools offered this free learning style.

Mrs. Fox has a heart of gold and is very open to suggestions from both staff and parents. She sets forth a standard that should be held by all teachers and administration with the idea that "All children are capable of success. NO EXPECTIONS!"
She makes sure children feel safe and welcome in her home away from home.

Posted: April 13, 2017

My child's teacher is more qualified than some teachers that are certified at other schools. She truly cares about him and even though she is strict she has the same rules for all of the kids in her classroom. Her expectations are high because she knows that her students are able to be successful if they put forth their best effort.

Posted: April 13, 2017

My child gets work home that they are working on. It helps me know what he is covering each day. I also LOVE that his homework never takes more than 30 minutes to complete.

Posted: April 13, 2017

My son is looked at as an individual by his teacher and not just a number on a page. He enjoys going to school each and everyday! I feel comfortable going in and talking to the teachers. Mrs. Fox hears concerns from parents and makes them feel understood and always puts what she feels is for the best interest and safety of the school.

It is ignored regularly on the playground

Posted: March 20, 2017

The principal backs her faculty even when the parent can prove the faculty member did something wrong.

Posted: March 20, 2017

Posted: March 20, 2017

They send home worksheets that require the children to spend an hour a day on whether they are doing well in the subject or not. It's just busy work for my A student.

Posted: March 20, 2017

My child has attended for the past 3 years. The school has really slipped this year. Staff does a poor job of supervising on the playground, just chatting and looking at their phones. One parent had to yell at kids in a fight while the faculty stood under an awning, oblivious to what was going on 30 feet away. The ratio of students to teachers in my child's class is 27 to 1. They are crammed into a little room. The teacher isn't even certified. I don't recommend sending your children to this school.

Amerischools has awesome teachers and aids that really have connections with the kids. All staff can point out parents and family members without hesitation. I feel like my child is safe at this school because they show how much they care for the kids. I would recommend it to any parent!

My son is a student in 6th grade at Amerischool and he has attended this school since kindergarden. He has enjoyed and learned a lot here with all the staff. Teachers have the time to give each student one on one time for tutoring if needed. Teachers and schools are amazing

I have been employed at AmeriSchools for over 6 years. AmeriSchools is truly different than any other school in Yuma County. The staff members are compassionate, hard working and strive to provide students with an extraordinary education. They focus not only on their students academic needs, but also on their behavioral and social development. The parents & families are supportive of school events and understand that continual communication with their child's teacher is essential. I am blessed to have been given the privilege to begin at AmeriSchools many years ago, and I hope to continue being part of the AmeriSchools family for many years to come. If you haven't visited, I strongly encourage you to stop in and take a tour.

My son has been attending AmeriSchools Academy - South for two years now. We love the small class size, personal attention and the change we have seen in him. I was so frustrated with the learning environment in another school he was attending that I took him out and enrolled him in AmeriSchools. He used to HATE going to school and would come home upset daily. Now that he has been attending AmeriSchools his attitude about learning has completely changed. The staff has been wonderful in helping him catch up and they offer many opportunities outside of his normal classroom environment where he is receiving additional attention. I love how friendly the staff is and that every single teacher and staff member know us. The before and after school care is absolutely wonderful too. They make sure my son has his homework done before he comes home so that is one last thing we have to worry about.

My children have been attending Amerischools Academy South in Yuma for 3 years now, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to send them to this charter school. My daughter attended Kindergarten at a public school before she came here and unlike the public school, Amerischools caps the classes at 24 students. The principal, Mrs. Fox, is amazing. She strikes the perfect balance between strict and loving, and she takes the time to know each of the children in her care, as well as their parents. This attitude is passed down to her teachers, who also take the time to learn the name of all the students in the school while still focusing attention on those children in their care. The teachers take the time to challenge all of the students. The school offers physical education, music, art, computers, and other classes that were cut out of the public school. There are also clubs offered after school, at no charge, to help students grow and explore- dance, Spanish, and board games are just a few of the options. I wish the school was more than K-6 so I could leave my children in this perfect learning environment even longer. If you are looking for a school in Yuma, look no further.

My daughter has gone to school here since kindergarten. She is now finishing up the 6th grade at Amerischools North. I have always appreciated the small class sizes and attention from all her teachers. The Principal is firm, but would bend over backwards to help a student or parent, in or out of school. There isn't a bus system, but they have great before and after school care at an affordable rate. The teachers really care about their sudents and their education. I just wish it was through 8th grade! We will miss this small school that has become like our extended family.

This is my first year teaching at AmeriSchools-South; I really enjoy working here every day! School s philosophy is to provide each student with a high quality education. Teacher s instruction meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students.

Posted: March 4, 2014

AmeriSchools is a wonderful place to work. The staff members are nice, supportive, and caring. They are always working hard to provide the best education to the students.

Posted: March 4, 2014

This is my second year working for AmeriSchools-South. I believe it is a wonderful school. It has a great learn environment! All of my co-workers are always will to help with out being asked. Another great thing about our schools is all the wonderful parents. I really like that all of the parents are very involved and willing to go the extra mile to help their child(ren).

Posted: March 4, 2014

I have taught at AmeriSchools for two years, and I am blessed working here. I see the teachers giving their attention to each student for his/her personal needs (not just the core education) but pushing them personally ahead in areas than just their strengths even if it means extra work for the teacher! The teachers understand that kids learn differently, and at different paces, and accommodate learning needs.

Amerischools Academy is a great school. I enjoy going to work everyday and the atmosphere is positive. All staff members work hard to achieve and give all students the best education possible.

Posted: February 20, 2014

Everyday that I work here I feel I am given the greatest opportunity to change a child's life through teaching, learning and growing with the children. My days are filled with positive people starting with our principle all the way down to the youngest member of our student body. I enjoy being here and being a part of something greater than myself.

I love teaching in a school where we can teach to fit the needs of every child in our classroom and not just follow a set of prearranged lessons. My students get hands on activities to help them learn. The staff goes out of it way to assist every student and other staff members. We are truly a family here. Best teaching experience I have ever had. I love working here.

Posted: February 13, 2014

Amerischools is a great school. The school focuses on differentiating instruction to meet the needs of individual students. We have an exceptional teaching staff and our principal is extremely supportive. Students learn citizenship skills and to succeed in academics.

Posted: February 13, 2014

My school AmeriSchools is a very good school. All the teachers are super nice, they are respectful and nice. The principal is a good and strict but really sweet she is not mean to anyone. She is always fair and super organized. This school is a small, yet a great school!! We have a rule that is called "one finger touch," I love that rule, at other schools they don't have a rule like that

Posted: February 8, 2014

My son is in his first year at Amerischools Academy and so far we love the education he is receiving here. The teachers and principal make school fun and challenging. The only drawback is the school facility- it is small and a bit crowded. I wish the school would move to a better building and add a 7th and 8th grade, so we don't have to find a middle school in a few years.

Posted: February 5, 2014

I love the schools small size that allows for teachers and staff to get to know every family.

Posted: November 13, 2013

We love Amerischools Academy South! My son has gone to this school since kindergarden and is now in 3rd grade. The teachers are wonderful and the principal is awesome. The only thing I see that needs improvement is getting the school zoned for speed zones...which apparently is being worked on. thank you

Great school! This is my son's last year at Amerischools Academy and he's as happy to attend school today as he was six years ago when he started kindergarden.

Posted: August 19, 2013

I love Amerischool Academy. I teachers and principal are great. My daughter really likes going there. She has been at this school since kinder and is now a 6th grader. She has exceeded all aims, and is ahead in math and reading. Couldn't ask for a better place for my daughter to go to school. I tell everyone about Amerischool and hope they bring their kids there as well.

Posted: August 4, 2013

My son went to 3rd grade here and the teachers and staff are very wonderful. If you have any questions or issue they will take the time to help you find the answers you need. Also if your child might be a bit ahead in some areas they can give him or her some extra work to help keep pushing them ahead. The class sizes are nice and the over all size of the school helps everyone be able to get any and all help they would need even if they get it from a different teach or staff member.

Our daughter has attended Amerischools for the past two years and we love it! This is a small school and that was exactly what I was looking for. Mrs. Fox was my daughter's kindergarten teacher and this year she is the principal. She and the rest of the staff are fabulous. They all know my daughter's name and even my preschool age child's name. They know my husband and I by name and are aware of our different schedules so they know who to call first when she has been ill or needed to be picked up. I'm sad to say that we have to move this summer and we wish we could take them with us :) They have gave our daughter a great basis for her education and I thank them profusely for that.

Posted: April 22, 2013

My Children have went here for 2 years and overall we really like the school. My biggest complaints would be that th ey are adding too many new classes when there isn't room for any more kids. Its a very small school. Trying to pick up your kids is a train wreck!.It's just too many people in a small space. The staff is very friendly, and I love the fact that I walk in and anyone that sees me knows exactly who my kids are. Mrs. Fox has stepped in and done a wonderful job! She is very involved with what's going on in her school.

Posted: November 26, 2012

While Amerischools South Campus does lack in size and for extra curricular activities, the leadership has kept me sending my kids there. Mrs. Fox is a positive, outgoing principal and relates to the children and parents well. She listens to the needs of parents and genuinely cares about the kids getting a high quality education. I have found the school to be a positive place for my kids and most of the teachers are great. All issues and concerns I have had are addressed quickly and I feel that my concerns have been understood and taken seriously. No school is perfect but the smaller class sizes and great leadership at Amerischools by far out ranks other options in Yuma County.

At the beginning of February we ended our Annual parent survey. Our over all satisfaction rate was 98% with 91% Very to Extremely satisfied. A little more than half of our families responded to 13 questions of which 8 dealt with satisfaction in various areas, such as communication and recommending our school to relatives and friends. Of our 8 satisfaction questions our lowest overall satisfaction percentage was 97%. At AmeriSchools we will always strive to meet the needs of our students and families. Our teachers and staff are very hard working and they are here because this is where they want to work. Many have left other teaching positions to come here and some have taken significant pay cuts to work here. This speaks volumes to their dedication, caring, and hard work. Our academics have been some of the highest in Yuma County, again because of the exception staff we have.

Mr. Wachunas is a wonderful Principal who is optimistic and hardworking! He is always willing to go the extra mile for his students, staff, and families. Great things continue to happen at this school. He values education and clearly understands the critical roles school, family, community, and teachers play in the success of his student's. AmeriSchools Academy administration, teachers, and staff believe every child has value, they nurture the talents and dreams of their student's, make them feel successful, and help advocate for their needs. It s a place where the staff is dedicated, caring, and supportive and where teachers make learning fun which sets the pace for student s love of learning.

Posted: February 29, 2012

I use to think that this school was superior in Yuma. After having my child attend for the past several years I have learned that Mr. W, the principal now at the North Campus is very controlling. He yells at the students and the teachers as though he is still in the Marine Corps. This is an elementary school, not the military! He has proven to me by not only my personal experiences but also by others who use to work for him that his "leadership" is NOT acceptable to be an elementary principal. Teachers, students or parents do not get to speak their opinions without repercussion. If you are looking at sending your child to Amerischools then look into the South Campus or a different school!

As this year comes to an end I am so grateful for all the hard work and dedication that the teachers at Amerischools invest in our children. You can truly see the fruits of their hardwork in our children . I have really had a great experinece at Amerischools with all the staff I think it is great that the Principal puts himself out there and is involved with the children. My children come home happy and excited about what they have learned and are eager to go to school the next day. I think it is awesome that they incorporate ant- bullying lessons throughout the year which is great as they have a zero tolerance for bullying, and we must not forget that they are also exceptional when it comes to academics! Thank you Amerischools!!

Posted: March 5, 2011

Our family loves Amerischools Academy! The principal and teachers provide a warm loving atmosphere where the children can feel safe yet are still held accountable for their actions teaching them to be responsible young members of the community. The academics are outstanding as proven by their "above performing" status. We have experienced the public school system and feel so lucky to be a part of the Amerischools family!

Posted: February 16, 2011

Started at the Yuma Amerischool in 2002, because of the fair and balanced environment, where the my children's minds were allowed to grow. They are encouraged to laugh, they are hugged when crying, and taught how to care for the feelings of others by not bullying fellow classmates. With all of this, Learning remains the top priority, as my children come home excited about doing their homework. With GREAT teachers, GREAT front desk administration, the Principal can keep the school united on the same academic page... ABOVE PERFORMING! Keep up the Great Work! Watching my children smile, put me at ease!
