I attended this school along time ago back in the day and I really hated it. This school does not care at all for anyone and it seems to me after all these years it hasn’t changed a bit. Well I no longer live in the vicinity of Yuma county and I will never live in this state nor country again!

My child was excited to begin the new year (2022-2023) this year and so we’re we. This was due to the change of the principal at the school.

School has just began and my child’s new teacher is amazing. (Mrs. Francis Martinez). Then all of the sudden my son is going to be getting a new teacher? This is unfair to the children. My child was actually excited to go to school with his new teacher. He was gaining confidence, and trust with his new teacher. Why do they do this to the children of this school? The same thing happened with the last principal. No continuity! I suppose we need to go to school where the leadership understands the importance of student and teacher continuity. So disappointed!

The integration of technology has allowed my son to accelerate his learning beyond where the class is at and stretch his abilities. The teacher also monitors all areas so that he gets the support in writing that he needs.

The staff is proactive in dealing with bullying situations they know about. However, I think mor ework is needed to get students to speak up - a problem in schools for generations.

Excellent. The challenging activities during the day and after school are a great way for my child and other students to learn how to problem-solve and take responsibility for their own learning.

I liked valley horizon until i had problems with the "discipline" aka screaming at your students and Ana Noriega is a terrible principal who knows nothing about the goings on in her school.

Our child was bullied in a daily basis and came crying almost everyday. Teachers ignored my sons plea for help. As long as they didn't see it it never happened. Some staff would Lao take part in the bullying of our child.

The teachers at this school do not assign homework.

My child's teachers were not communicating with me, though we had an IEP for our child stating we needed daily behavior and accomplishment feedback, but requirements were not being met. The teacher was just not showing any motivation to want to help our child and the communication between the teacher, principal and any other staff member involved had little to zero communication between themselves. Very displeased!

Our child was in special education and the teachers and aides showed little interest in motivating my child or any other child to do work. They were told that they could either work or do as thy pleased to avoid any behavior. From personal observation the special education teachers he no compassion for these children and within the classroom were bullied not only by other peers but the teachers and aides themselves.

Honestly, we were lead by the school district to believe this was the best school for our child, who has special needs. We trusted the teachers and staff, sad to say, we were deceived and lied to too many times. Our child's IEP contract was violated, the principal and teachers would do anything and say just about anything to cover their behinds. They failed to even read our child's IEP, in their words, "We have tried everything to help your child. We are tired of him and we are waiting our time", no lie. I would NOT and DON'T recommend this school for any parent with a special needs child.

The school's homework policy focuses on basic reading and take home projects. Students do it have daily homework and are encouraged to balance their lives with family and recreation.

The school uses a daily curriculum called Positive Action to help kids develop with their social and emotional needs. The school is very proactive in addressing discipline and bullying.

Students of special needs benefit from a co-teaching environment. The art program uses art to celebrate diversity and regular celebrations are scheduled to embrace diversity.

Wonderful. The after-school program is a real bonus for children. They truly enjoy learning and the activities they engage in during that program which helps them in their regular school classes. I was invited in to see how the program worked and witnessed children joyfully learning in all the classes I visited.
I toured the science room as well and was thrilled to learn they have Yuma's only Weather Bug weather station. The kids take measurements and do daily weather reports with information from the station.

The teachers we have experienced are always willing to help, but don't put forth the effort or understand how to help. Special education class teachers have changed every year for at least 3 years.

Mrs. Noriega is a fantastic, approachable, understanding principal, but lacks the resources to put in place what every student needs.

My son received special education services, but was mostly just babysat. He did not gain any skills in the year he attended the program.

The only reason this school gets two stars is because of the principal, Mrs. Noriega. She is wonderful, willing and compassionate, but unable to give every student what they need. The school glazes over bullying problems and does a poor job communicating with parents. The staff is friendly, but poorly equipped to handle the large number of special needs students and large number of students with difficulty in English proficiency.

My son hates going to school. He is bulied for being different and nothing is done about it. The teachers are over worked, and you can tell moral is low. Kids are packed 30 or more in classes, some with 2 grades in a class. Office staff is rude and does not care about parent input.

Absolutely no communication between school and parents. Parking lot to pick up kids after school is horrible and unsafe for students. We've had issues with bullying. My kids don't ever want to go to school anymore. Seems like they don't really care. I feel like it's more about test scores than what the kids are learning. They will attend a different school next year even if i have to take then across town.
