Yuma High teachers generally support the students some more than others (Brown, Gastelum, and Lozano are the best). Some teachers need to be on their way out and it shows. CTE programs are a need to participate in. The culinary class is amazing. I would take it all 4 years if possible. I would recommend coming to Yuma High because of the class sizes and athletic support the students receive.

I only went here for TWO SCHOOL YEARS. There is only a handful of teachers that actually do their job in helping the students learn. Most of the administrators act like children, and the security guards refuse to do their job correctly. There is a lot of favoritism when it comes to the students. More importantly; admin tends to put unnecessary amounts of work loads onto teachers who are very obviously stressed out. When I got suspended from here the staff was very immature about it. If you really want your child to have a decent school experience send them ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE.

Overall, not much to say other than that the teachers and councilors are great. I've been around campusstudents aren't very engaged with what they're learning. A plethora of reasons can be given to explain why. One being is that the majority of the students come from Hispanic orgins. Families can be a bit "traditional" when it comes to education in the sense that parents don't believe in most modern ideologies prevalent throughout the US. Therefore partially explaining why students are detached from their school overall.
Most of the teachers I've met have had positive experiences with this school. Which is awesomebut it's not just about the faculty. Students come first. I hope everyone can remember this going forward. (Bathroom situation is horrendous. Missing a mirror off the wall? *Try looking in one of the stallsyou might just find it lying behind one of the toilets...*)
This is all I have to say. I do not recommend, try another schooleven if it's a bit further away.

Overall the academic experience could be much better too bad the teachers are forced to allow students to pass their class even though they dont meet the minimum requirements. This is something that isnt just happening at this high school but all the high schools in Yuma County. Teachers are forced to allow students to pass by doing less than the bare minimum.
Yuma itself has a wonderful group of teachers (Gastelum, Jacobson, Seibel, Johnson, Mendoza) that really care about the students and work super hard to develop curriculum and entice students to participate but if there is little to no support from school administration or district administration it makes it really hard to have kids learn proper college and career readiness skills.

This school practically spoon feeds education to their students. I was a former student at YHS, then moved to phoenix to go to college and let me say, that YHS was no where close in preparring me for college. They dont care if you failed a class, if you failed it, you take A+ (online courses) and you'll get your credit. And what students usually do is pay someone else to do it for them. YHS doesnt challenge their student. They just want them to leave with a diploma so their graduation rates go up.
