This school has been as active to engage with parents as another we have switched over to. There seems to be a lack of communication between staff, and this includes the nurse on site. Parents are required to fill out the medical form for the nurse to reference if the student is sent for treatment; however , this was not the case for us and our kid left in worse condition than when she arrived. Although the teacher was new to the area, she appeared overwhelmed by the number of students in her class as well as by the behaviors of some. My kid was constantly given “busy work” once ahead because time was having to be taken on those that required attention for behavior. This allowed for her to actually fall behind and then have to play catch up at the new school. I noted that this was brought up by multiple parents, again the teacher and students were not at any fault, but the principal lacked the integrity to face this issue. As for safety, my own child as well as others, on separate occasions, had been locked outside of the building while inside the school grounds and not notified until seen by someone coming in or out of the parking lot. I was not called about this, instead sent home a hand written letter from a teacher that felt awful about the incident and her number to discuss it further. When calling to schedule a meeting with the principal it was pushed aside and meant to be handled over the phone. She was aware that my child was locked out, and even had her spend time in her office to “calm down” before returning to class (kindergarten). Everyone has their own opinion and view, but I would not have my kids go back.

They punish kids for being smarter than others. Ones who can do mental math get punished. Then when you speak on it the principal calls police on you and has you trespassed. School is a joke fr. The forst 2 years my kids dealt with being bullied which I had to confront parents because school did nothing to fix the issue.

There is a noticeable inconsistency from teacher to teacher.

The staff at this school are the kind that are all smiles to your face but then do the bare minimum for the kids.

I know two children got into a fight on the playground and was observed by many others kids, one even took off his shirt for the fight and neither got expelled for the day or more.

When we had questions or concerns, there is little to no response. When you elevate the concern, you just get the same lack of response. The teachers here do the bare minimum and act like that is too much to give.

If students do their class work during the day then the homework is right for his/her grade level.

Bella Vista teachers helped my son prepare for middle school. He's in honor classes doing very well. Wonderful and caring teachers.

My daughter spent a year and a half at this school and it was a year and a half too long. She was constantly bullied both physically and verbally by another student. After contacting the principal about the matter I was told it would be taken care of. Her classroom teacher then decided to sit that girl behind her and the bullying continued. Academics are horrible. The teachers do not offer multiple types of assessments or ways to measure progress. They only put a handful of grades in the grade book so if your child bombs one assignment their whole grading period is down the toilet. This school is all about daily drama and fights in the upper grades. I have pulled my child out of this school and enrolled both her and her younger brother who is entering Kindergarten next year in a local private school.

Do not send your children to this school! Unfortunately, the teachers, Principal as well as the staff are not connected to the students or parents. They lack the basic communication skills. If you don't mind unanswered calls or feedback, then ok. I have never witnessed such disconnect. The teachers see no other way but their own and unfortunately, the principal backs them up, regardless of logic. I pulled my children from this school after too many occurrences. There are plenty of great schools in Sierra Vista, this is just not one of them.

The school called CPS on my daughter because my grandson was jumping on the bed and hit his head. He is a normal 11 yr old boy. She had to sit at CPS office with children for two hour waiting on a CPS worker who made the appointment but never bothered to have the courtesy to tell her she was not going to see her. Two hours, my grandchildren were traumatized. Thank you very much for that.

Bella Vista Elementary has served my son well since Kindergarden. We have been satisfied with the quality and care of the school and staff.

In this town there is open enrollment which means you can choose your school and not go to your home school if there is room. All the moms I know that live in this zone choose not to send their children there. There is a definite disconnect and a ton of defensive teachers. Was not impressed at all. I would choose any school in this town over them. Not challenging at all. Teachers only teach to standard.
