It is a magical place. I didn't understand what progressive education meant until I came here, and got to learn along side my children.

More and more studies show that homework does not support learning. RCS has known this all along. The only time students get 'homework' is when it is for a specific project, or something that really compliments what they are doing in the classroom, not just busy-work.

The teachers really have time to get to know each child in a way that honors each child and their own experiences. In turn, both my son and daughter have thrived.

Intrinsic motivation, compassion, team work and community are all words that come to mind when I think of the experiences my children have had at this school. Each child is respected and valued, and they learn to model that for the younger children. It's remarkable to watch the progression take place.

The school works with parents and students to give them a voice, creating an environment that is encouraging and supportive.

The school does not test students, but rather works with them to find their strengths and honors their journey. Who needs a test when you can sit next to that child and read with them? My son and daughter have very different learning styles and both of them have been given what they need to thrive.

The school is small and very little happens around here without parents/teachers knowing about it. The parents and teachers work with children to find out what is behind behaviors, and helps them get out of this bully/victim role that adults like to put them in. It is where the real work happens and helps the students form behaviors and skills that will help them down the road, when there aren't adults around to help them figure it out.

There is no homework at this school until 5th / 6th grade. A full school day is plenty enough to learn - don't let the school system burn your kids out on the enjoyment of learning by sending them home with too much homework. Let them be home at home and do things with friends and family. Building relationships is important, too.

Our child transitioned from this progressive education to a public education at a college prep charter school with rigorous academics.
His favorite teachers are the ones from elementary school.

Individualized learning, small class sizes, and teachers and parents that actually care.

There's no such thing as bullying at this school because they understand children. Seriously though ...

A seriously special place for families to get their children an education. You'd never think we had such a gem of a school right in Roseville, CA.
