Our experience with Cooley has been anything but spectacular. My daughter started there last year and we’ve had consistent issues with bullying, safety concerns, and threats of sexual assault from other students. The administration either does not take things seriously and dismisses concerns, is too incompetent to do anything about it, or cannot manage the students that attend that school. Schools in our former district had a fraction of the issues that we’ve experienced at Cooley. It’s been a very frustrating experience - we’ve had 2 threats of violence with a weapon in less than a week and no reassuring actions have been taken from the school to ensure our students safety. The office often chastises parents and struggles with a superiority complex - all the while students run that campus however they choose.

My children's grades went down since they've been at Robert C. Cooley Middle School. I've received more emails from staff about how to provide funding for their wishlists, to provide funding for staff appreciation, to volunteer because they're short staff, and have even received an email to vote for the teacher's child's picture (whom doesn't even attend Cooley) so that their child could win a prize, over specifics about my child in the classroom. The overall experience at Cooley has been very disappointing.

The lunch food is terrible. The best teacher in 7th grade is Mr. Durkee (PRE-AP social studies). At lunch multiple students throw tomatoes, carrots, and apples at other students. One time someone threw an open banana at me and it stained my white shirt. In addition, someone threw a whole salad pack at me. I feel like most of the boys at school are disrespectful to many people. Kids also fill of juice boxes with air and stomp on them. When they stomp on the juice boxes it sounds like a gun shot. Most of the staff are kind to their students but some of the teachers aren't kind. I also feel like the no phone policy is not changing anything. There is fights sometimes and the staff don't help resolve the situation. There is also a dress code and no one follows it. Some people wear inappropriate clothes to school and the staff don't dress code them. The bathrooms are always out of soap and people write negative messages on the walls. In summary, the school could really improve on many things.

As an old student, I found this middle school the most enjoyable one I've been too. IN 6th grade before covid the lunch hours, the campus was very attractive to us. The teachers are kind and sweet, and the counselor Mrs.Grace was so so nice. I would love to go back. I believe this school was the best middle school in Placer county. If you're going here, Have fun, And don't stress. Middle school there isn't as scary as it seems. Good luck Cobras!

Great neighborhood school with beautiful campus for the kids. Easy to access for the parents.

Posted: January 10, 2019

Not very much homework given. Teachers tend to have students just take home what is not finished in class.

Posted: January 10, 2019

Some are great and really care. Special Education staff tends to be very unprofessional. There are 2 male teachers that speak inappropriately in front of students. Just giving out answers is not really teaching.

Posted: January 10, 2019

Many clubs are offered and some programs that promote respect.

Posted: January 10, 2019

Vice principals seem very involved. The main principal gossips about some parents and even teachers. This does not seem like a type of leader that should be in charge of a school.

Each grade level handles differently. During an elective type period, E period, students can choose different activities. "Lower students" are grouped into intervention. Some of this intervention includes parking on a chrome book to work independently and not monitored. My 7th & 8th grader have explained how most just watch music video's with headphones on.

Bullying still happens. Counselor tries to work with students that have struggles and with bullying behaviors.

Good although I feel sorry for students that are neglected.

Seems clean, organized and generally positive environment on the grounds and in the classrooms.

Posted: November 11, 2018

Do not have any info on this but I don't see why they wouldn't have the support.

Posted: November 11, 2018

Seems steady but not overbearing in amount

Posted: November 11, 2018

Daughter has been very interested and engaged in ALL areas of study at this school

Posted: November 11, 2018

Promotes positivity and inclusion, through clubs and various campaigns against bullying, etc. Even the school layout promotes more social interaction and being open air has been a huge plus to our daughter.

This is our daughter's second year in California and attending Cooley. The score here is laughable. Someone needs to really look over the ratings system! I would rate our experience with Coiley as a 9/10. I wish they had more after school clubs and activities but otherwise I have no complaints. My daughter loves her teachers and has loved the school since we moved here last year.

As a parent and member of this community I honestly don't see how Cooley went from being an 8-9 rating to a 6 overnight.... Looking at test scores which are above the national average across the board should speak volumes. I also saw that all Middle Schools in the immediate area took a hit. Perhaps someone at GreatSchools decided to add some data to artificially drag down some really GREAT schools in a great community for what reason.... I don't know but don't let the 6 out of 10 fool you all schools in this area are top notch, and have very educated and professional staff.

Cooley is an amazing school! The activities and clubs, are great such as, AVID, reptile club, Stand up now club, and many more! The teachers are smart, fun, entertaining while they teach, and know how to be strict when they need to. A majority of the students care about their grades and school, and actually want to succeed. However, some students are thinking in the opposite direction, but that is why Cooley staff/teachers help them go far, and do good in middle school. I think Cooley is the place to make middle school A LOT easier! :)
