We've been at this school for 3 years and the principal has created an environment of tolerance to bullying and dismissing parental concerns regarding it. She's created entitlement especially in the boys, to where they ruin school functions with rowdy behavior. A friend of ours was concussed in TK and the principal buried it. There are not appropriate consequences given to disruptive, aggressive and dangerous kids because that would mean tarnishing their IB status and scrutiny from the district = risking the principal's job. They hound you regarding attendance because that's how they get paid but when it comes to children's safety and well-being it isn't taken seriously, the stories are gathered so the administration can cover their rears and the principal gas-lights the kids about what they actually experienced and deflects blame and responsibility wherever she can. Wealthy families and their children get preferential treatment because they donate to their luxury fundraisers. There are too many children per teacher and it's so hard for the kids to learn because disruptive kids are allowed to continuously misbehave. This applies to their aftercare programs as well. The staff just stand around during recess and outdoor time instead of actively monitoring the children they're standing around gossiping and kids end up getting hurt. Consider other options for your child's education and safety. As far as the actual curriculum goes, it's common core math which seems to actually make math more difficult for the kids to get a grasp on. The food that is served during snack and lunch is also embarrassingly unhealthy, it's mostly just packaged food like honey buns and craisins. I don't know how this school is so highly rated.

Amazing teachers and experience. Highly recommended! We have a kindergartner and have already seen amazing progress from this school.

We have really struggled with district and school administration regarding discrimination issues. Our adopted special needs son has been bullied and called racial slurs. We are shocked at the retaliation encountered when attempting to advocate.

The new principal is very engaging with students, parents and staff. The energy at the school is great.

So far our experience at Sierra has been fantastic. I have a 5th and 2nd grader who have been at the school for all of their elementary education and I have loved watching them grow both academically and socially. Having the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Curriculum at the school has been amazing and I love how my children are being taught to be globally minded. Also love the new principal!

We have had many struggles communicating with the principal and have found her to be arrogant at times.Like most the teachers but will be changing schools next year because of leadership issues.

Sierra is an outstanding and exceptional school! The IB program offers my children a fresh way of learning and a different perspective. The teachers and staff are amazing and I have experienced nothing but kindness and a willingness to go the extra mile. As a parent volunteer, I see kids who are excited to learn and want to research and find answers to there questions. I am grateful that Sierra is the school for our neighborhood.

My daughter went there here enitire 1-6th grade years. She just started middle school. This is great school with wonderful teachers and a great education.

My kids and I LOVE this school! We moved here from out of state 3 years ago. I have a child in Kinder and another in 3rd grade. The teachers here are awesome! The principal is both kind and professional. There are plenty of opportunities for parents to become involved as well. The teachers really welcome it. I am also a big fan of the IB program and the Spanish programs. Sierra Elementary feels more like a family to me than a school. It's really fantastic!

with 2 kids attending this school for the past 4 years I can say that this school is an excellent school. I love the IB, Vapa and other programs that other schools cannot afford. I believe the teachers are great, treating the kids fair. i like the push in different areas (AR, AM ...) The teachers involving the kids in different social activities is awsome. And on the con side, the office staff could be a little more friendly. Never had problems, but I got that feeling that if you don't look a certain way they kind of look down on you. I only give 4 stars because they're doing a lot of fundraisings and they're monetary excpectatins are kind of high for our budget. We have 3 kids in school and we only stay in the area for the school. Otherwise we cannot afford to live in this area. I belive overall is a very good school. My kids love it, they love their teachers and they do not want to go to another school. and that is all that matters to me.

I wasn't referring to your original post regarding being treated like a "second rate citizen". I was responding to someone else and also suggested to that person that she should speak to the principal. I'm sorry your child feels that way because I know that no teacher at Sierra would want that.

I never said my child was unhappy at Sierra Elementary, nor did I say we felt like "second class citizens". I was simply stating my observation as a parent and what I have seen take place over the last 3 years. My child has accepted the fact that children related to teachers are treated differently. These are her words. She sees what goes on in the classroom and at school functions. I don't feel the need to address this with the principal, I would prefer to keep my child's identity anonymous. It's hard enough just being a kid now a days. I would prefer not to get caught up in school politics. She is here to get an education and make friendships.
