The principal himself is very nice, but one principal can't fix every issue. The teachers are great, however office staff does very little to prevent bullying. The most I've seen done was them giving a child a stern talking to, suspensions are very rare not because the school is good with discipline, but because the school refuses to do anything about bullying. Even the teachers dislike the office staff. Students are only provided lockers STRICTLY for P.E. when they are one of the most well funded schools in the area, and students are forced to carry around backpacks that weigh twice as much as they should. The district office has told a family their child was faking an illness when they had handed in doctors notes to prove said serious illness. Every year they ask a select few students for recommendations on improving the school, and never take those recommendations. The school only listens to you when you threaten to sue.

Our children have attended Valley View since it opened. This school has been amazing in all ways. Our oldest child attended Valley View 5th-8th grade and is now enrolled in Ponderosa High School. (Also amazing). He is thriving and the transition for him was easy. The staff at Valley View, the teachers and everyone involved are the best. They care about our kids. They are all student focused and I feel go above and beyond constantly. The principal, Mr. stewart is fantastic. Cant say enough, our kids are thriving.

At risk students are not prioritized. You will have to beg for support and still not recueve it. This institution will allow your child to fail without contacting you to find a solution. VVCM is a disgrace to education and the idea of no child left behind. THEY WILL LEAVE YOUR CHILD IN THE DUST. Apparently a great place to work if you don't care about education.

Im completely floored by the negative comments on here! Our daughter started there as a third grader on the first day the school opened, and it has been a treasure for us and for her. The principal, Mr. Stewart, is one of the most caring people weve ever met, and goes out of his way to ensure students & parents are heard. The academics are well above par, with the International Baccalaureate program offered to middle schoolers, and Homework Club after school for students who need extra help. The fact that they incorporate the Montessori method is icing on the cake. As a parent who has volunteered in the classroom, I have direct experience with the staff, and can say they work hard to maintain a positive attitude, while offering a warm, inviting atmosphere in the class. VVCM has an excellent track program for middle schoolers, a band program for 5th graders & up, and many other activities (such as an after school cooking class). The campus is lovely (especially the Garden). Even the crossing guards, Miss Jill & Miss Ellie, are loved by the students. Our daughter will be in eighth grade this year, and were so sad to see her leave VVCM, but we know shell be well prepared.

IMPORTANT: Im a teacher at one of the local high schools to which Valley View is a feeder. Students from VVCM are decidedly more prepared than most students from other schoolsa sentiment expressed by many staff at my school. We have always felt so lucky to have been a part of the VVCM community.

Many of these good reviews are from when the school was in Cameron Park on Blue Oak Campus. Now that it is Valley View, it is not the same. Just be aware of that when reading these....

Bullying is so prominent in the school! The teachers see kids getting bullied but don't do anything about it. This happened to me and has happened 5 or six time before to other kids!

Dress code is stricter than necessary and targets females and people of colour, teachers use public humiliation to discipline students, kids as young as second graders are cussing and bullying other students. Not just second graders, this school has a very big bullying problem. Not to mention middle schoolers are carrying backpacks heavier than 10 pounds a day to school and are still not given lockers. Principal is very nice, but vice principal uses similar disciplining methods as teachers.

if you want your child to have a voice dont go to the school. Students are expected to hush up and listen and anything you say back is considered attitude or backtalk. Bullying is completely ignored nobody does anything about it. The dress code is super unreasonable and the teachers pick and choose who they decide to dress code mostly the students that are less favored by the teachers are the ones going to the office. Ive seen students get away with wearing short shorts, short skirts, rips in their jeans and many more yet other students that try to wear the same thing are getting sent to the office and dress coded. Theyre getting privileges taken away an unreasonable punishments. The MINORS are expected to cover up ive seen people get dress coded because there shirts are too tight. it is 90 to 100° outside they shouldnt have to wear baggy clothes with no airflow and hide up everything. Maybe teach the old men that are somehow distracted by what theyre wearing to not be. Dont make the same mistake I did by bringing my child to the school. Our children deserve better they deserve to have a voice and they deserve to express themselves and not overheat in the hot.

To all parents thinking about this school...BEWARE. If you have a 7th or 8th grade child with confidence, a voice, an opinion or dresses/styles themselves with any individuality....dont bother enrolling at Valley View Charter Montessori. The staff at this school are way overzealous about their behavior and dress code policies. If your child has ANY rebuttal to what the staff is saying...your child is considered talking back and disruptive to school activities which will lead to unfair discipline. The Valley View dress code is whatever they feel is inappropriate for that day. If your kid wears a t-shirt longer than their shorts....theres disciplinary action for that. If a 16
Long skirt looks too stylish, your daughter will get a school field trip taken away. But its ok for their own gym teacher to wear short-short lululemon spandex, or Nike training shorts!
Im a proud father of an eighth-grader that has confidence, a voice and I teach her to have meaningful conversations with adults...including administrators. My way of raising my child to communicate with adults doesnt work for the Valley View school administrators. They would rather each student just follow the herd, not ask questions, and basically not talk to any teacher or staff with any opinion of their own.
My daughter has attended Valley View for 7th and now 8th grade. Im not saying shes a perfect angel, but she gets good grades, participates in class, and has lots of friends. She is just constantly being harassed by the school staff, principals and administrators.
I know this sounds like a rant, but its not. Im just a regular dad trying to raise a child during these unprecedented times. And I do admit....Im sad that my daughter is missing her 8th grade Sun Splash field trip because its 85 degrees outside and she cant wear a 16 long skirt to school, and had her field trip revoked!
If you child gets on the Valley View staffs black-list of problem children (even though you have a normal teenager with confidence and a voice) you will be writing this same review someday.
So I warned you. Make sure your child keeps their mouth shut, wear the most basic, ugly frumpy clothing you can find and have them follow the herd....because this school hires a bunch of Administrators that would rather hand out punishment than let your child be an individual.
Again, Im a proud father of a smart and strong-willed teenager. Our young talented students will be the future CEOs and Presidents!

Like no other in the state, VVCM loves their students, students respect faculty, and there is a love for what both students and faculty are doing. Kids are learning without feeling burnt out. Kids are safe and learning in a healthy environment.

We absolutely love this school! Our son has been there for 2 years now and we've had nothing but a positive experience. The principle, Mr. Stewart is amazing and so awesome with the kids. The positive atmosphere is palpable. I wouldn't want me son (and other children) to be in any other school than Blue Oak Montessori!

The staff as a whole creates a uniquely positive atmosphere for elementary education. Campus culture is very interactive and promotes responsibility. Overall, Blue Oak provides a great formative experience for children by encouraging their success and offering many ways it can be individually achieved and recognized.

Our daughter completed K-5th grade at Blue Oak Montessori and excelled in all areas, academically, emotionally and socially. She learned to be an excellent independentally motivated student surrounded by supportive teachers and friends, working together for excellence! I am so happy we chose Montessori for our daughter!

I have two children at Blue Oak Montessori, a 3rd and a 5th grader. They have both been there since Kindergarten. The teachers are amazing and really work hard to provide the best education they can for our children. My 5th grader decided this year that she wanted to put on a singing competition with her peers. Her current teacher and one of her previous teachers have both given up their personal time after school to allow her and her friends to invade their classrooms for auditions and practice. My son struggles with reading and has been wonderfully supported by every teacher he has had. I love the Montessori philosophy and I love the independent learners my children are becoming because of the guidance they receive from their amazing teachers. The school has grown a lot since my oldest started, and I'm looking forward to seeing it continue to grow in the future.

This is my 8-yr-old's first year in Blue Oak Montessori. We LOVE it! He was in the traditional program for 1st grade, which was excellent, but after talking with his teacher and principal, we made the switch. I am so glad we did. I am so happy to be able to give my son a Montessori education... we moved from Phoenix 3 years ago, and the few charter (free) Montessori schools are small with long wait lists. He attended a private Montessori for preschool, but at $800+ /month, it just wasn't practical for us in the long-term.

I love the fact that the teachers are trained in both traditional and Montessori, and I feel like he is getting the best of both worlds. There is a real sense of community amongst the parents, and at Christmas time the families visited a nearby assisted living facility for caroling. Also in my son's class (not sure if all the classes are doing this yet), the students visit the senior center regularly and do crafts and eat lunch with them. He loves visiting with his "elderly buddies!"

Also, I cannot say enough about the staff. The office staff is always helpful, the teachers are dedicated and caring, and I'm impressed at how the principal and asst. principal are very hands-on and accessible. You can find them reading in the classrooms, greeting kids out front in the mornings, and being crossing guards after school. If my son sees Principal Stewart from across campus, he will go out of his way to give him a "high five." Mr. Stewart makes a point to remember the student's names and encourages parents to come to him with questions or concerns.

Couldn't be happier! We tried out Indian Creek and their solution to my daughter's advanced needs was to skip a grade. So glad we went with the Montessori program at Blue Oak. Low class size makes it more inviting and allows teachers to have time with each child. Ms. Jenkins is a warm caring teacher that is excited about Montessori and not "burnt out" like at the other school we tried. Excellent communication from staff/administration. The office staff are friendly and happy to see you. My daughter feels like she is part of a team and not just another number. They integrate Blue Oaks library and computer lab with the Montessori program- not something you get at CA Montessori Project. The class room is calm, quiet and the kids are self-controlled not teacher controlled. It is an amazing thing to watch! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

We LOVE Ms. Jenkins K class. My child is above CA standards and would not be working at "his" level in the traditional K. It is a great balance for us. He can get the cirriculum he needs and still get K level socialization, which he needs. I hear great things about all upcoming grades through 4th and soon funding will be available for 5th.
