If I could Id give 0 stars . What this school CLAIMS to be is nothing like what life at Aspen is really like or about! The principal is so unprofessional! & if your hold has an IEP this school will deny you of your legal rights. Currently seeking legal advice because this school in no way shape or form is fair to children with disabilities nor equal. My kid and another student were horsing around in the cafeteria, my kid gets a call home and I get told I have to sit in the cafeteria with him in the morning if I want him to eat breakfast. The other child did not get disciplined. Its so many other ways my kid has been singled out or left out . What a joke this school is!!!! I 100% would not recommend this school to anyone who has a child with special needs. Youll get calls everyday , theyll be suspended every other day, or worse like my kid just have them sitting in the office all day until pickup .

My kids have been going here for over 4 years and I love the school. The curriculum is at a high standard. Kids love being at school, the staff are friendly . The teachers go above and beyond for their students. Communication with teachers through ParentSquare is always great I get a response within 1 day. The healthy lunch program is great as well. Overall the school really cares about the students.

We love the school. Staff always informs when necessary, the teachers are the best! They communicate very well with parents and are always welling to help! And their sports are even picking up! Great coaching, and shows passion towards our kids!! Last but not least, we as parents are also able to get involved with school events etc...So thrilled we decided to go with Aspen for four of our children!!

Wish I could give zero stars!!! My sisters were bullied here constantly and staff did nothing about it. In fact, they took every chance they could to join in on the bullying themselves. So glad they are out of here if you take bullying seriously stay FAR FAR away.

All students learn the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. They are taught how to apply those principles to school and everyday life. And it truly does make a difference. They're so ingrained in my son that when he's frustrated or struggling with something at home, I can say, "Which of your 7 habits can be applied here?" and he can come to an effective resolution.

I would rate my experience with this school at a 5. There is a great atmosphere that allows the children to grow and learn. The teachers are always understanding and have a desire to teach that gets the students excited for learning. Im also excited for the years to come with Miss Rivera as principal of the school. She has strong goals and expectations for Valley Prepatory Academy. Im glad my child is enrolled.

My experience in this regard has not been good. Even with a confirmed diagnosis from a doctor, they don't accommodate different learning needs due to disabilities unless they are forced to. They act like the child is like all the others until the principal is brought in and they are forced to actually do their job. Even when they see that a child with KNOWN special needs is falling behind. They don't even waste their time telling the parents until it is way late. Again, bare minimum on the part of the teachers.

I feel that this school is probably average when it comes to bullying and how they deal with it. On the plus side, they can boot a kid out for it at this school whereas they can't do so as easily in regular public schools.

They are not very good at communicating with parents. And they have a "no homework" policy, but that is not true. The kids are expected to finish classwork at home, but there is no way for a parent to tell what they were working on in class because they do everything on computers. There needs to be a way for parents to be more involved with what is going on in class in order to help with the homework that they claim they don't assign.

I have found that they do the bare minimum. They rely on the computers to teach the children while they sit at their desk on their phones. The program they use is good, but it is only as good as the teacher using it and the student's ability to teach themselves everything. If your child is good at teaching themselves most everything for the school year, this is fine, but not so good if they are not super independent and ambitious when it comes to classwork. Most kids will be lazy if you let them and this school lets them then doesn't advise you of the issue until they are forced to during conferences. They also don't do anything to accommodate special needs without being FORCED to.

I think they try, but i don't feel it is super effective. The kids get away with a lot of character flaws, such as bullying and being disrespectful. They tend to make excuses for the kids rather than having a no nonsense approach.

I have been kind of disappointed, to be honest. I really like the principal and the way most of the school is structured; however, I think the teachers (at least the ones I have dealt with) need to be reminded that they are there to teach, not to play on their phones while the computers teach the kids.

They also send out a BILLION e-mails and texts per day asking for money, donations, supplies, kidneys...It is very frustrating to have to tell your children almost EVERY DAY that you can't send money/supplies/etc. with them every time the school asks for it. They use your kids as marketing tools against you and it is exhausting. It is annoying to get the messages constantly and it is frustrating to disappoint your kids because it just isn't feasible to donate your entire paycheck to the school every time you get paid. They need to figure out their budget better.

I am happy that the 4th through 8th grades are using Summit Learning online platform. The school also has implemented The Leader in Me in the schools, so students can have an opportunity to lead the programs. Last week we had the Family Fun Night, where the students lead the program. Students led the 8th grade promotion last June and are leading in many of the events that used to be led by adults. Last year, the students began leading the parent conferences. Students become more confident when they have opportunities to be leaders.

I went to this school when i was younger and now my siblings go. Theyre like telemarketers they act like theyre the best but in reality they are just as cheap and terrible as any other. I wouldnt send your kids here. The bullying is so out of hand. The kids learn nothing. And the staff dont care.

Dear, future students, teachers, or anyone who dares associate with this school DONT. This school is possibly the worst charter in California. The teachers are fired after 10 years of working because, the school doesn't wanna give them the bonuses. They will fire teachers and staff for the stupidest of things such as 'being to nice' (not kidding) or giving students hugs(also not kidding). There are some good people in this mix that sadly got sucked into this mess and too them I say "good luck". And don't get me started on how they treat their students! The school says its a "bully free zone" But it's truly not. And don't you dear to try to bring any issue up to the office because they'll just ban you from the campus! Trust me on this do not go to this school!

This school plays by there own rules. They have a structured policy and guidelines in place however, they pick and choose when and with whom to follow protocol. There is a definite "in crowd". Once you've been ostracized from it, good luck. Administration covers for their staff that make questionable calls or ignore the schools written policy. Because they're a charter they aren't held to the same accountability as the unified schools. They offer a specialized art class, but beyond that there isn't any more available to your kids than if they went to a public non-charter school. They will tell you they have smaller class sizes and smaller teacher student ratio, and a great character building philosophy. That attention doesn't apply to everyone. They say they have a zero tolerance bullying policy, they even have written protocol how to handle violence and threats of violence, but they won't follow through and hide under the scope of being unable to discuss other students discipline. Very unprofessional behavior from administration. They fired one of their teachers this year and made him do the march of shame as school was being released in front of all of the schools students and their parents. Tactless! Some of their teachers agree with the misconduct of their own administration but have been reprimanded for speaking up or questioning the way things are done. You may think sending your children to a charter will be better than sending them to your district school but I would look into others if your adamant about going to a charter.

Since my grandchildren have flourished since they're arrival....the smaller classrooms and more individual attention has helped them academically. The teachers are exceptional I appreciated the work Ms. Mayoral, Ms. Kirby, Ms.Rivera did with my gbabies; now they're in Mr. Hodges and Ms. Mackins classes & I'm hearing the same enthusiasm and excitement about "their" school VPA and teaches. This school started out very well, we absolutely loved it! We loved the small class sizes, the teachers and the fact that behavior was considered important. However, the school has started to lose it's original purpose in lieu of worrying about their popluarity and how many more students they can enroll. If they would remember their purpose and try to keep the students and teachers that have been there for a long itme there then this school would go back up to where it once was. There have been too many incidents that have gone overlooked, personally and with close friends children at the school. And the fact that their academics are slipping. That is why we're not going to re-enroll our kids this year.

Valley Prep is one of the best schools I have had the privilege to teach at throughout California. The administration is supportive to both teachers and students. Curriculum is continually being updated to stay in line with the Common Core objectives. At Valley Prep a culture of "caring" is enhanced through our "Character Counts" program. Valley Prep now includes a Visual Art elective class for every student.

So thankful for Valley Prep!! My child has attended since Kindergarten, and is currently in Jr. High. This school has been such a blessing! The teachers are some of the most dedicated, hard working, stay after hours teachers I know. They have always been very approachable and willing to help in anyway. My child has had some struggles along the way, but the teachers have been helpful and given great advice, and been very honest with us as parents. We've been able to see improvement with our child because of this. I've talked with the staff and administration. They work hard to make improvements each year. The principal takes her job serious and addresses matters quickly when pertaining to her students. Her students come first. It's all about the kids. The staff works hard to communicate with the parents. We love the phone calls. We are looking forward to another great year at Valley Prep!!

I think this is a great school. The teachers are great and the classes are small. The students look forward to going to school. I have seen my child progress academically dramatically. I love the fact that they have a security guard and nurse on campus. It would be great if they were full time and on campus at all school hours. If it weren't for them not being there at all times they would have the 5 stars. I think they are both a great addition this school. My mind is at ease with my child's safety and health being taken care of. I recommend this school to all parents.

The worst in education. My child consistently makes the honor roll but lacks academic fundamentals. Likewise, my child's standardized test scores often fall below the state minimums. My child said that the teacher was reading the answers the state exams aloud to the class during the exams. The faculty is underqualified, and more concerned with their own popularity among the students than the classroom instruction. My child says they have events like kool-aid day and are often rewarded with candy. Teacher feedback is limited as they fail to schedule-parent teacher conferences and often "forget" to invite parents. I've witnessed chaos in the classroom with all children out of their seats, throwing things, pushing each other, and yelling. Attendance and discipline policies go unenforced. VPA does not abide by FUSD policies as it should as an institution chartered under the FUSD umbrella. VPA's charter should be heavily scrutinized and probably suspended. The leadership of VPA is more concerned with its reputation as a business than its duty to children. VPA parents have big heads thinking that its a private school, when it isn't, and the quality of education there is poor.

Very disappointed in this school.. I currently have kids attending this school and for the most part it is a good school. However recently a incident took place involving one of my children and another child who that made a VERY inappropriate comments towards my child.. The comment made was a tier 3 (zero tolerance) offence according to the schools student handbook "most tier 3 and some tier 2 offenses are punishable by expulsion." But yet in our case for whatever reason the student wasn't even suspended. After a meeting with the principal seeking some answers as to why this student wasnt at least suspended I was given no answers.. Hours after the meeting I did some researcand that was when I found the schools policy on what had happened. I sent a email to the principal asking why the situation wasn't handled according to their school handbook and to my surprise I received no response.. The comments made would make any Father/parent furious as it did to me.. And I feel that the school didn't take it as serious as I did or as it should have according to their student handbook. Considering a different school for next year.

I had heard really good things about this school from a friend so I took my daughter out of public school to send her to vpa. The first year was just okay but this year has been really bad. The curriculum is watered down a lot but it has to be because most of the students are so behind in their in their education. The overall character of most of the students is poor at best. I've had several situations with my daughter and other students this year and when I bring it up to her teacher or staff it is brushed off as nothing. If you're looking for a good school for your child, I would definitely recommend you look somewhere else!

This school is the next best thing to homeschool or private school (which we cannot afford) Valley Prep provides the best of both worlds. It has really provided a safe and friendly enviornment which I really appreciate for my kids. Valley Prep teaches and promotes values that we as a family teach at home. Not only do they teach it, they really hold the students accoutable for their character. The teachers really go above and beyond for their students. I have experiences this first hand - my son's teacher does everything possible to help my son do his best. They really do care!! We only hope they start a high school soon!!
