I wanted lunch. I HATE the orange chicken. And I wanted to eat dumplings. There are not many vegetarian people at our school. This mean lunch lady does not let me have the dumplings and I am starving. My stomach grumbling, sad. Second, they have BUGS in the strawberries. I was eating them and put it down, BUG. Looked in my friends strawberrys, BUG. Do not eat strawberrys here. Third, The teachers. There was mean people bullying me. What did they do? NOTHING. Called me fat. NOTHING. Told me he was gonna kill me. NOTHING. They don't care AT ALL. Fourth, harassment. There was a kid in a younger grade on the monkey bars, and another kid pushed her. Broke her arm. Staff did not believe her. School did NOTHING. As you can see, bad school. Don't send your kids here EVER.

Now this school is good but needs improvement cuz the teachers (4-6 so so) (1-3 good) (7-8 good but strict) and beware expect to be named called at least once and the staff could possibly be micro racist (I made a review on this school in 4th) so yeah good school but needs some improvements and there are more things you should expect but I'm saying the main stuff or else this would be 300 miles long.

The only problem i have is that I experience racism against my daughter who is an Indian .we are not heard. One side of story they are interested in!

The current principal is out of her depth and does not know how to effectively do the job of an administrator. I would not recommend this school based on her, as her leadership (I use this term loosely) and capabilities is severely lacking and impacts all aspects of the school and its environment.

Been part of this school since it opened up and over the last 5 years it's been going down better school in the Natomas area than Heron

They give too much homework for kids in K to 5 grades over 1.5 hours a night

If your kids struggles ( add or adhd ) the teacher will not spend the extra time needed to make sure they understand the assignment

One year, it was too much homework and it was too much for my kid(s) to absorb. The other, it felt like there wasn't enough and they were missing something. Consistency would be nice.

One of the 4th grade teachers openly disdains students who aren't an ideal mix of "social butterfly "and "attentive student".

I watched as other students openly and wantonly bullied and picked on another child, while yard duties and other staff watched. They only stepped in because I did - and I was told by staff that Parents aren't allowed to step into school matters. Don't want us to? Do something.

Principal seems to have a micromanaging style. Communication with my kid(s) teacher(s) don't sound like they come from the teacher, but rather are coached comments coming from school administration.

My kid(s) has/have learning differences and the school was more than ready to open a 504 & IEP. They openly ignored, however, written advising and communication from my children(s)' counselor in regards to behavior accommodations.

After a few years of bad experiences and denied intra-district transfers, we are finally having ONE good year, and that is thanks to a single, particular teacher, rather than the school (or district) as a whole.

As a full time working mom, I believe the school makes a significant influence on every kid's life. I am 100% happy with what Heron is providing my kid, both academically and socially.
Most of the teachers are very experienced. They are very caring and loving. My kid who is in 4th Grade now, has been studying here since Kindergarten. All his teachers have been very appreciative and loving to him. He loves his school and his younger brother is starting next year.
The teachers send us emails every Friday about next week's homework and events. Now the school has the electronic Friday flyer which efficiently communicates with the parents about the next week's events at the school too.

I have two childeren here with the oldest currently in 5th grade. I have been very impressed overall. Most of the teachers we have had are impressive and still seem inspired to be in their proffession. We have had a couple of teachers that were soso, but no bad ones. The class sizes are appalling - but typical for where we are and CA budget (33 kids in the class). The PTSA is very active and provides and great amount of support to the school. We see kids and parents from this school constantly throughout our community and enjoy the small town feeling. As the kids who started in this school fill out the upper grades, I am excited to see development in their middle school program.

We have been with the school since it started. The teachers in 1 - 3 grades are good, 4-6 grades are so-so. No teachers we had communicated with us on regular basis(no emails, nothing). Teachers did not put anything on their web site. The school web site has out-dated info. Most teachers sent their kids to the Charter school after 5 grade. The test score improved recently; no sure what tricks the teachers used; I did not feel any changes in the recent years.

My kids have been attending this school for 5 years. I feel our principal is so dedicated to this school, always finding new and creative ways to make it better. Both of my kids are challenged in their classrooms with differentiated learning targeted at their abilities. The new science focus of the school helps bring about well rounded students rather than focusing only on testing. New after school clubs offer art, drama, science and engineering. There is a strong community feel. We are really happy and plan to keep our kids here through 8th grade.
