Nothing is perfect. Learning is a journey. My hope as a parent is that my child values learning. At this school the value of learning is exceptional in English, Math, Foreign Language, Visual Arts and Cultural Studies. At other schools those may be in Science, Athletics, Music, etc. For Armenian Community School, I would say our experience is very good because we value the items where they are exceptional and we don't value the areas where they don't excel. There is a family-like culture on campus that also is teaching our students about basic human skills like care, compassion and love. That also is a rare characteristic in a public school setting.

Each teacher our daughter has had since Kindergarten has explained to us the State of California standards and expectations with respect to homework and then explained to us what their own personal standards for homework are for his/her students. Each teacher has sent clear and detailed homework instructions home, holding our child responsible to deliver the schedule and requirements to us as parents. We really appreciate this because it puts accountability on our daughter as the student to be responsible for her homework.

Effective is a low bar. Yes, without question all of the teachers are effective. At this school, the teachers exceed effectiveness. They truly care about the students - that is evident in all grades. Nobody seems to be there simply going through the motions and careless about the people they are teaching. They care about the students learning and well being. Not all teachers have the same experience and talent level - which is to be expected as no two teachers have the same strengths. Some have greater abilities, some are developing those abilities. With our daughter as well as our son, our experience is that the teacher have gotten effort out of them that exceeds merely being "effective" and moves into "above average."

Principal is an experienced leader. He has experience and relies on his experience to explain what the possible outcomes are with addressing something one way versus another. He is always pushing for greater achievement, higher expectations, better instruction. The greatest strength of the Principal is that he ALWAYS puts the student's and school's best interest first in his approach.

I have heard the Principal say "Teach to the student on a daily basis and teach to our academic goals on a quarterly basis." What a great approach!

Zero tolerance. It's spelled out and detailed steps for consequences for behavior that can be perceived as bullying are specifically outlined in the School's Policy Guide.

My daughter has been going there since Pre-K. I love that she's learning so much of her fundamentals in numbers, letters, etc, but also culturally learning famous poems, songs. She's grown tremendously because of the way the teachers nurture and educate. It's a great community to be a part of.

My daughter has completed her first year in Pre-school and has an AMAZING experience. The culture, community and support of the school is something unique that cannot be obtained anywhere else. We love it at CKACS..

My daughter has been attending this school since preschool. It is a great learning environment and she has become an outstanding bilingual citizen in the Central Valley. Her teachers have always treated her like family and she is friends with all the students at the school! ItÂ’s a great and SAFE place to be!

three step anti-bullying policy where immediate action is taken with student, victim and principal. then parents are notified and met with. if bullying persists to a third time, student is suspended with discretion given to leadership to remove the child completely from campus.

teachers calibrate lessons and homework to some degree. school does not have special education instructors and has some limitations with accommodating behaviorally challenges students. this is an area where there can be some improvement in the future.

principal's have always been dedicated to the school. new ideas are always encouraged. no bureaucracy to slow down innovative ideas for curriculum and education delivery. principal is in the classrooms daily, offering both formal and informal observations and mentoring far more often than in public school.

teachers are this school provide the number one element that defines success in teaching: passion! the teachers here care about their jobs and care about each and every student as people. if they didn't they wouldn't they wouldn't stay. some teachers have been around for 25 years.

christian and armenian - character matters a lot in both! civility policy is given to every students, teacher, administrator and parent. christian education program reinforces high character.

excellent program. high educational attainment among alumni of this school - around 1.25 degrees per student. high test scores and high functioning students while there are in the program. the bi-lingual education probably helps stimulate the child's mind more in the formative K-6 years. to top it all off, kids are warm, compassionate and good people who thrive as american citizens who understand, value and preserve the armenian culture.

teachers follow california teaching standards and customize homework for students when required. google docs are used, pdf newsletters are used to communicate homework. there is always homework, this is not a school that follows the 'no homework' philosophy.

Half the teachers at the school do not have teaching credentials. Also, they advertise that they have good test scores but that's because they compare themselves to the National Average.

Students are not taught to pick up after themselves and it's because the teachers do the same thing.

The board does not follow the Bylaws.

They would rather sweep incidents under the rug than to deal with situations.

Poor...It has potential but the current board will not be able to provide adequate leadership.

We are so lucky to have this school in our community. The teachers are excellent and the kids love going to school. They get a fantastic education in small classes, music lessons, poetry reading, sports, drama and more........ they have it all.

The teachers really care about our kids and are teaching the common core standards in innovative ways!
