We have been attending this school for almost two years now and have had great experiences with it. The teachers, office staff, counselor and principal are all great! I feel my student is more challenged at this school, safer at this school, and receives the academic support she needs. WMCHS is getting my student ready for college and for real world expectations she will be facing as a young adult. While my student is taking college courses as part of her path, it is not required,. If your child isn't ready for that path, it's ok. They have a path for everyone! The student population is much smaller than River City's 2,200+ student population. My student doesn't get lost in a sea of kids at this school. River City will only continue to get more crowded as the new developments are completed and families move in. The teachers, counselor and principal at WMCHS are able to truly understand and know the needs of each individual student. They are able to provide more one on one support when needed and they don't hesitate to help before being asked. If your student is an athlete, they can still play high school sports too! If you are considering this school, request a tour, meet the teachers, meet the staff, talk to the current students, and have your student shadow a student for a day to see how they like it.

So thankful we found this school for our children. It’s been enriching and offers kids room to grow in education.
I cannot speak high enough of their principle. Mrs Lane has gone above and beyond to positively grow this school & get families more involved. She is diligent about problem
Solving.
The majority of the faculty are great, but just like a lot of public school systems you have to educators who feel the need to push their agendas in the real world.
Pros: small classes, relationship building with faculty, proactive principle who wants her school to thrive, educational support

Cons: educators pushing political beliefs in scare tactics with not enough educators to offer other choices.

Washington Middle College High School is a hidden gem in the Washington Unified School District. It is a middle college dual enrollment program and is perfect for students who want to get ahead. Students start taking college classes at Sacramento City College beginning in the 9th grade and have the potential to earn an AA or finish their IGETC pathway by their Senior year. The teachers are focused on State standards and really care about preparing students for college level coursework. There is so much support from the community college as well. My daughter started WMCHS in the 11th grade coming from McClatchy high school. It was amazing to see the transformation and preparation she had in two years. She completed her first two years of college by the time she graduated and finished up four AA degrees at Sac city college. The teachers prepared her for college level courses including how to navigate the system, write for college, seek help, and communicate with professors. The experience built up her confidence along with her academic skills. The AVID program is schoolwide which also helps students prepare for college including note taking , study skills, college applications and career pathways. If students want to play sports they participate in River City High School athletic program. My daughter was in cheer so she got to enjoy the social aspects of a comprehensive high school to balance the academics. The school is definitely challenging and rigorous so not for the unmotivated but if a student is up for challenge and likes school the rewards are worth it. Bonus- it is free! The school pays for college, books, and supplies. The students who attend are amazing too!! I just can't say enough, I love it and am grateful :)

I have only been attending this school since august 15th of this year but I love it. The schedules are great, I start at 9 am and get out by 2:15. The teachers are very nice and make they sure you understand everything. The food is pretty good. The only thing I dont like about this school is that lunch is only 35 minutes long, I think they should add an extra 15 minutes.

A horrible school! Great students and teachers are leaving or have already left. The new principal is rude and confrontational to students, parents and teachers. She accused students of wrongdoings based on what she heard and didn't even allow students to explain. Any attempts by the students to explain was labeled as disrespectful. She made teachers cry during class and has been heard cursing down the hall as she talks negatively about students. We had no parent teacher conferences last year (we used to have up to four a year previously) and no progress reports mailed home. Communication from the office was non-existent. This "hands on" project based school uses almost exclusively videos in science class which grades are based on turning in notes for the videos and a test about the video, and in some classes like Spanish, they are completely on computers with a non-Spanish teacher watching them. The love and support that the students used to feel from every adult on campus is gone. That is why we are leaving the school as well.

A lot has changed in a year. The new principal treats everyone horribly and all the great things about the school are gone.

The school is going downhill quickly. The atmosphere is unpleasant and the innovative approaches in the classroom are gone. River City is a much better option for us now.

My daughter was groped by another student. When she reported the incident to a teacher, she was told "it's a good thing you didn't do anything." The school never contacted me about the incident. I had to be notified by my daughter. Furthermore, when I complained the incident was not acknowledge and they did nothing to my knowledge to correct the behavior.

I wish I could chose 0 stars. If you are considering this school, RUN! This school has been a complete nightmare! The director/principal is rude, unprofessional, and incompetent. The board is ineffective and unresponsive and therefore nobody is held accountable. My daughter had to retake TWO very important classes (Pre Calculus and Chemistry) needed for college. Although she passed both classes, she had to retake them due to a "lack of curriculum". I am sad to say she decided not to apply to a UC or any other university because she felt discouraged. She did a lot of work to position herself to be ready for college applications only to find out the classes she took either didn't count; OR had to be retaken because she learned NOTHING. The morale of teachers is low because of how they are treated. The teachers that really care and voice their opinions are either gone or on their way out the door. I sent my daughter to this school because I truly believed in their philosophy and was excited about their connections with UCD. However, the only connection the school has with UCD is the president of the board whom seems to have little to no pull. As for their philosophy, I feel deceived. I cannot express enough my disappointment with this school. I strongly regret sending my daughter to this sham of a school, it should be shut down!

My middle schooler started coming here at the end of 7th grade. The traditional school was pushing her through grade after grade even though she was failing and didn't understand the material. I was at my wits end and had considered putting her in independent studies, which was not in her best interest. Since starting at West Sac Prep, she is engaged and is learning something new every day. This school encourages kids to explore new ideas and allows them to have some independence in their education. My daughter used to fight going to school every morning, now she's up and out the door and I don't even have to yell at her! My 16 year old decided to attend this school after the success she's seen her sister is making and now is attending college classes! This school has been a blessing to my childrens education! I love this school and recommend it to anyone who wants their child to be ready for the real world!

My son attended to WESCP since 6th. grade, now he is in 11th. We both loved the school, the teachers are very committed to their students, the office amazing always there to help, the academic school counselor is extremely resourceful and supportive; in general we always felt that the school was a home away from home...... We are very sad to leave, but we are moving out of town.....A grateful mom.

I attended this school for a year and I honestly learned nothing. I always thought I was top of my class but then I had to move to another school. This new school was so challenging for me because WSECP did not teach me the required, challenging material every middle schooler needs. I dont reccomend this school to anyone. Actually, students get send to this school when their grades arent up at River City High School. Its not a challenging school and I doubt anyone who has graduated will get anywhere in life.

I really don't know if my child would have been graduating in June if it wasn't for this school. They truly define the no child left behind policy. They take an interest in ensuring that each child succeeds. The teachers as well as the principal are all involved everyday with the success of the children attending this school. I highly recommend this school to any parent that finds our "regular" school system failing their child.
