Both of my boys are here now, gated car access, private elevator access, friendly staff and caring teachers. Daily pictures of the infants and weekly summary pictures for toddlers. Large secluded outdoor play area on the 2nd floor. Conveniently located off the 101/60/5/10 junction DTLA no complaints at all.

I did a Child Care Observation Visit at Gateway and was very impressed with the overall facility. The Assistant Site Director was very helpful in my observation of her facility. The Head and Teacher Assistant was very friendly and approachable. My most rewarding observation was that the teachers showed so much child and teacher interaction constantly. The classrooms were filled with different Learning Centers. The children were all happy and attentive to their teachers. The teacher gave attention to more than one child, they all were included. They have lots of play activities included with learning, and sharing. Please visit and see for yourself, it is a nice center. Hazel Robinson

Our family has been at Gateway over a period of 6 years, and we have had over 20 teachers there. From what I have seen, and learned from other parents and other preschools, it is a good child care center -- but not a great preschool. Pros: the current teachers (April 2014) for the older kids seem to be very caring and loving; the toys and art supplies are fabulous; the price, for a Downtown location, is reasonable (around $1,000 a month); the director seems to be accommodating for reasonable requests. The cons: they claim to have NAEYC ratios for 4 & 5 year olds (1:9), but the ratio is really the state maximum of 1:12; there seems to be a daily sugar treat given as a reward in the older classrooms; the hot lunch menu does not accurately reflect what the children actually get (recently, the afternoon fresh fruit snack was replaced twice with goldfish); the families who are there under a subsidized or free program do not usually make eye contact or talk to other parents and they do not get involved in what is happening in the classroom; and, the classrooms are very crowded with lots of tables, shelves and other furniture, so there is not much room for the kids to move around.

My child has been at this facility for over 3 years and the staff has been nothing but warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend this facility to any interested party if your child care needs are in the down town LA area.

I had my child in this school for three months. She cried every day she came. After witnessing two infants crying, without any teacher paying attention, I understood why. No one at the school made my child feel welcomed or a part of a community. The teachers were nice, but one was very rigid in enforcing the schedule. I brought my child 5 minutes late for lunch (after a 2 hour doctor appointment) and was told she couldn't eat with the other kids, which, again, sent a message my child wasn't welcome. The center is horribly disorganized--I never received a single direction on center policies unless I asked. I gave appropriate notice for withdrawal and was told the fee would be prorated (my child left mid-week). On her last day, I had to pay for the whole week, enforcing my perception the center has poor leadership, poor communication, poor values.
