As a former employee, I feel it is my obligation to my community and my former students to stand up and say something about all I have witnessed at Kepler. I can corroborate the reviews. Comments about students being yelled at by Admin during lunch are true. My students would tell me this too. I even once heard the HR director yell at students saying if they didn't be quiet they would have to treat them like in a military school, facing forward in silence. Claims of parents and staff being reprimanded for speaking up at board meetings are also true. Some parents will be banned for any small incident they deem a threat. Some staff members have been fired after speaking up and others have left due to scrutiny. Some staff are given or surprised with additional duties assigned to them outside of their hired department. Any employee who stands up to administration is reprimanded, and their job will be posted for replacement as soon as their employment is terminated. Communication is a huge issue there. There are a lot of questionable decisions being made here. Students are treated as money and not people. A lot of things that are turned down are due to not enough money in the budget and funds are constantly being asked for from parents. Information about the allocations are given different responses. Admin does lack in taking action about ANY concerns raised. Many students of color have left due to racist incidents and use of racial slurs such as the n word with the hard r that receive little to no consequence other than laughs and gsnacks in detention. This environment has led parents of color to not feel supported or respected and tend to receive different treatment and acknowledgement of their concerns. There are amazing teachers at this school who do not receive the support they need. This establishment is treated as a business rather than an educational institution. Though Kepler can offer multiple different activities and smaller class sizes, it does not make up for the toxic environment staff and students have to endure under this administration. As a worried community member, I agree: Do not enroll your children here while this administration is in power. We need people who actually care about Student Education and not just appearance.

My experience at Kepler was the opposite of ideal. My students loved their teachers, but came home with many stories of admin (the principal, HR director, and counselor) yelling at them for various things. They would come home saying that admin yells at them on a microphone in the cafeteria, that the principal yells at them to smile, and that they are not allowed to speak during their lunch time. My children should feel safe at school, but right now they are fearful to return next school year.

Parents are met with kindness and respect when they meet with admin one on one to express these concerns. However, no solutions ever come. When parents and teachers raise concerns at board meetings, admin roll their eyes and make faces at one another.

I do not feel safe having my children attend a school where they are yelled at to smile and not to speak when eating their lunch.

Until real change happens at Kepler, and new qualified admin come in as replacements, I will not be returning with my students.

If I could give this school zero stars, I absolutely would. Unfortunately, my experience over the past three years has been extremely disappointing, especially given how much the school has declined.
The administration is unprofessional and, at times, dismissive. Staff members are not treated well, and there appears to be a lack of genuine concern for both employee well-being and student safety. Communication is another major issueadministrators are often unable or unwilling to provide clear answers without deferring to the superintendent, which creates confusion and frustration for families.
The superintendent seems to run the school more like a business than an educational institution, with a noticeable focus on appearances, particularly on social media, rather than meaningful improvements. Concerns raised by parents and staff are not being properly addressed.
Additionally, transparency is lacking. Many parents were not aware that board meetings were open to the public until informed by a former employee. Even when parents attended these meetings and voiced serious concerns, there was little to no action taken afterward.
This past year, a significant number of students of color have left the school, which raises further concerns about the overall environment and inclusivity.
Overall, the lack of communication, accountability, and responsiveness has been deeply disappointing. Meaningful changes in leadership and priorities are urgently needed.

Kepler has small class sizes, and the teachers and staff really know and care about each student. Academics are improving every year, and they're building a new playground for next year. They offer a variety of activities, everything from art, drama, music, and gardening classes, to intermural athletics, afterschool tutoring, clubs, field trips, summer camps, even a family picnic and a world culture night. The school is really improving under the current administration.

The teachers at this school are outstandingtalented, dedicated, and passionate about their jobs. They are the only reason to consider this institution.
However, I am compelled to give this school a 1-star rating due to the current Superintendent/CEO/CFO. As a former employee, I saw firsthand that her true intentions are driven by profit, not pedagogy. She treats this educational establishment strictly as a business, viewing the amazing students as mere "dollar signs." This focus on personal gain is further evidenced by her unprofessional habit of posting luxurious personal trips on LinkedIn.
Furthermore, she employs an extreme style of micromanagement and punitive leadership. Any employees who voices a contrary belief or stands up to her is swiftly reprimanded, and their job is posted for replacement immediately. It is her way or the highway, and she exhibits clear favoritism.
Parents, please be warned: Do not enroll your children here while this Superintendent is in power. The positive impact of the employees is severely undermined by the toxic leadership at the top.

Kepler was an amazing school a couple years ago. There has been very high staff turnover and a priority on social media optics as opposed to taking to steps to empower and support the children. Administration seems concerned with appearances and the teachers appear unhappy now. It feels as though any staff voices concerns faces possible reourcusions from administration. Concerns brought to the board and principal are brushed off and no follow up appears to happen on concerns when they are brought up. At this point in time I would not recommend Kepler to other families.

I would say this is a great school with smaller class sizes. Teachers and staff members are awesome and really care about the well-being of the students. The teachers truly care about the kids futures. The downside about this school is the admin herself. She only cares about micromanaging certain staff members to quit. You have to do things her way or its the highway. If you speak your mind, you will be micromanaged to the point of quitting. She runs the school as a business and not an actual school. Disregards concerns of staff members. I dont recommend this school as long as this petty admin is charge. I dont recommend working here either due to unstable job security.

My daughter has been going to Keper since 1st grade and will be starting 4th grade this school year! We absolutely love it here especially the last year and a half when a lot of changes were made like more family involvement and gatherings. Field trips,sports, after school programs, and so much more. The staff go over and beyond to help with anything you may need.

This school has had made great improvements, but still has a long way to go. SOME members of the current leadership team in the building spend more time arguing and micromanaging than actually doing anything productive for the school. If you bring any concerns to the table, they are just brushed under the rug and ignored. I would recommend this school in the future if specific staff members were no longer there.

Kepler Neighborhood School is a great charter school that really brings community and diversity into place. All students have a sense of belonging as soon as they walk through the front office doors towards their classes. The staff at this school truly strive for success of all students and provide a numerous amount of enriching events, extracurriculars, and sports. Overall this school will make your student become a well-rounded student and they will be able to gain so many amazing memories.

My children have been students here for several years, and during this time I have witnessed firsthand the outstanding education they have received. The school's rigorous yet nurturing approach cultivates curious young minds through enriched curricula and intimate class settings. As a school of choice open to all, Kepler attracts a diverse and vibrant student body. I cannot speak highly enough of the school's contributions to my children's growth.

Kepler feels very family oriented and does a good job of keeping parents well-informed about their kids. The class sizes are small, and the teachers are very caring. Kepler has a lot of enrichment activities available for the students to do, and there are many opportunities for parents to be involved as well.

I have three students at Kepler. There have been many ups and downs in our 5 years there, but it feels like Kepler is getting its finding it's legs after periods of admin transition. I'm very happy with the school culture and rigor. Communication with parents has been one area that has been lacking in the past. I am happy with the continued effort the school is making to keep parents informed through Remind and printed newsletters.

We have had 2 kids at Kepler for over 5 years. Kepler has gone through a lot of change in that season, but through it all we have had teachers that care and a place that is trying to provide the best education it can for students that don't have access to other educational options. I feel confident in the new administration and would encourage you to check it out if you want to learn more.

This school is a shell of what it used to be; they're like every other charter circling the drain. When the school first opened, and for the first 4 years, things were amazing. They had a fantastic teaching staff, a robust system and curriculum, and a top notch music program that was scheduled to expand with them with their new building. My kids loved it! What happened to this place? Well in 2017, arrogant board members pushed out the head of school/music program director because of test scores that had nothing to do with her position. They replaced this one person with three people, tippled the salary, and nearly bankrupted the school. It was SO bad, they had to cancel all field trips mid-year. This had a domino affect that destroyed moral, made the founders quit, and eventually ended with nearly all of the classified & teaching staff quitting in disgust. I'm glad my kids got out when they did, but I feel sorry for those who didn't.

This school does not meet these requirements. Many students (of course not all) are disrespectful and the fact that this then affect other students ability to learn and the fact that we as teachers cant get through upper administration to
do something about it makes teaching at Kepler an everyday struggle.

As stated prior the school administration needs to show more discipline towards students and inform the parents of their kids situation. I am very disappointed, especially since many of these students are in need of discipline and getting talked to to be motivated in order for them to see there own potential.

As a teacher in 2019, its heartbreaking when students say _____, stop bullying me and we know as teachers that when we intervene and that student who is bullying the other, will simply be told just dont do it again, okay your free to go back to class, and the student is is getting billed doesnt get support from a counselor or upper administration.

The after school program offers no homework help for the students at this school. Many teachers are also unavailable outside of class for the students who need extra help with there class work.

I have yet to find any school who does what Kepler does for its families and students. Not only have they kept amazing teacher-student ratios, included tons of field trips and community service projects as a part of their curriculum, offer hands-on learning projects, but they've gone above and beyond to offer differentiated learning. This means that teachers pay attention to your children's capacities in each subject, and challenge them appropriately. This means that if they're not understanding something in math, they'll be given tasks at their level, helping them master the content and continue to advance. If a child is far excelling in English, they won't get bored, but instead will be given work that may even be at a more advanced grade level, to make sure they are challenged. It's awesome!

Kepler has such a supportive, healthy approach to education. We have very little homework - they handle learning in the classroom and value family time. My sons are reading far above grade level and their math skills are stellar. Their teachers enjoy working with them and relish the challenges that their imaginative questions bring to the classroom. We just had teacher conferences, so I'm basically quoting what I was told. If you want to have an uplifting, affirming and supportive school experience, come to Kepler. I am so happy with the teachers and staff - they honestly care about every family and figure out how to work with your child's quirks and passions. They love what they do and it shows.

At Kepler, the "three Cs" are among the main measures of a student's progress. Character, creativity and community - they report on these qualities at conferences, and give awards based off of them at the end of the year.
Discipline issues are handled in a "restorative justice" manner, working with respect agreements between any disputing parties - students and adults or between students.
Students are asked to connect with each other and their community through field trips and service learning projects throughout the year.

We feel so fortunate to have Kepler Neighborhood School as an option for our children. We have been with the school since it's inception. Since day one we have felt excited about the Kepler community and all that it has to offer! I highly recommend Kepler to any parent or family who is looking for an alternative to mainstream education. Kepler offers challenging academics and a wide variety of extracurricular activities that keep our children stimulated and engaged. The staff are kind, open and do a great job keeping a watchful eye over our children. We especially appreciate the small classroom size. Thank you, Kepler!

My daughter finally feels like she is learning in a way that she was meant too. She loves school again! The huge variety of electives and the creativity worked into the curriculum makes learning fun and there is no other option close to what Kepler offers. We love it!!!
